Yeah, I recently received my iPad and love it to bits like most of us here, as well as most people who have actually touched one with their own hands.

We have already established why there are so many iPad haters in real life, but mostly on the Internet. It can be summarized in the points below, according to that discussion:

- Many people are Apple haters.
- Many people judge without experiencing.
- They just can't afford it.

Even the harshest critic would have problems saying bad things about the iPad after actually using it, so those reasons above make perfect sense. Now let me ask you this, have you been insulted for using an iPad?

For instance, on another forum, someone even made a thread about me about learning I got an iPad. I'm truly intrigued at this insanity. Has any of you been insulted for owning this revolutionary device? If so, share your experiences here. I'm sure there are some interesting ones. :D

I was in Staples today to get a wifi Access Point and some employee was pestering to help me. I mentioned that I'd just got an iPad and needed to extend the wifi range in my house. He says "you got an iPad? Those are just big iPhones." I asked if he'd used one yet and he says "no, I got an iPhone." So I says, "oh me too. You have no idea what you are talking about." Then I asked him to leave me be.

Apple is pretty much Justin Bieber for the 18-29 age group. Most people at my college love Apple and I always see people looking at my iPad in class...lol

Aa long as you keep calling iPad a "revolutionary device" you'll be insulted because this statement is insulting to every normal individual :D

lol yeah, I'm aware of that. People calling the GUI a revolution back in 1984 yielded the same effect.

Jeez that doesn't come across as sanctimonious at all now does it?

"We've already established..." have we?

Please, if you are happy with your iPad, good for you, but for those of us who don't think forking out $500 or however much they cost to consume media is necessary ought not be told that they fall into one of your categories. One could feasibly afford to shell out $500 but don't feel they that the iPad is a worthy expenditure of $500. Your proposition that everyone who can afford to shell out the money and has used the iPad will buy it is laughable.

Returning to the original proposition of the thread - being insulted for using this "revolutionary device". I don't own one, nor intend to own one, I can understand the perks of the device, but it is just another media consuming device to label it "revolutionary" seems preemptive.

But hey, what do I know? I don't suscribe to the "oh my god iPad" clan so I must either "hate apple" or "impoverished".

I haven't got this with the iPad but I can completely sympathize.

People are just rediculous. You see all this talk of "Apple Fanboys" yet I never hear any fanboys making a peep. All I see is Apple haters everywhere assuming what "fanboys" will say and insulting Apple at every chance they can get.

We have plenty of those people in our forums too unfortunately.

I really don't care what others think.

My only problem is that people oooh and ahh over the iPad when I bring it to a meeting.

Apple haters are few and far between. In fact most people are really interested in the iPad and have tons of questions and want to see it in action.

Most are surprised at the size and screen quality. Also a lot of people I know with iPhone 3Gs (myself included) are amazed how quick the iPad is compared to the iPhone 3G.

The iPhone 4G, if it takes anything from the iPad, is going to be magnificent.

Actually the best way to shut up an apple hater, pull out the Netflix app and start watching a movie over wifi. Screw flash, I have a large library of recent movies at my finger tips that can all start within a few seconds of launching the Netflix app. I've shut one apple hater up with this and he stared at the iPad in awe as WAL-E played on such a nice screen.

Poor Ipad Haters. When u have the best tablet. Ppl will get jealous. Thats all they are . JEALOUSE

i havent even GOT an ipad yet and already i'm getting grief. I mentioned that i was getting one on release day (UK) to my fiance and immediately it was like "why? what is it good for? isnt it just a big iphone? sounds pretty useless. why are you wasting money we should be saving for the wedding" and so on.

thing is i guarantee you when i finally DO get my hands on one, i might as well have bought two because i wont be able to get it off her, exactly the same thing happened when i bought my iphone and she kept playing bloons and wouldnt give it back.

One other thing that I wanted to say on this topic...
...like the poster above said, out in the 'real' world you don't find many Apple 'haters' -why is that?
It is because the internet is filled with literally millions of people who like to act tough from the comfort of their bedroom/computer screen, but aren't so tough in real life. It is easy to trash talk and insult people when there is no consequence to your actions/words. These same people would pee their pants if you were able to confront them face-to-face.

It is always worth remembering that  Just ignore them.

Haha, I was hoping for some more stories.

This is too true. Everyone says Apple fanboy this, Apple fanboy that, when most of us aren't fanboys at all. We're just people who appreciate good technology. It's just the haters making a lot of fuss. There are a lot of them, unfortunately.

Number one problem: we CARE what these people think, or at least we let them get to us. Just forget about them -whilst you play on your iPad, of course! :D :apple:

I don't find it a problem that so many people are dissing the iPad. In fact, I usually find their insults quite amusing, because they simply have no idea how brilliant the device is at all.

Haha, that doesn't work over the Internet. The reason why you don't get flamed in RL is because of what you have said - anyone who lays their eyes on this piece of art will find it hard to attack it.

People on the Internet, on the other hand...

These same people would pee their pants if you were able to confront them face-to-face.

And also blinded by the awesomeness of the iPad. xD

People are terrified of change and it's an easy target.

Once again, the key is not to give people an opening in the first place.

Sorry - how is this thread any different than all the other "hater" threads, etc?

Couldn't the OP just have posted in one of those instead of starting another thread. I mean - I know they are popular and make the people who post in in "feel better" - but ultimately the only person's opinion of your purchase that matters is your own. You don't have to defend your purchase and you don't have to brag about your purchase either.

IE - to the person who told the staples employee that they wanted to extend their wifi because they just got an iPad. Why mention the iPad? Were you trying to look cool? Be more interesting? You opened the door for a comment and can't be surprised that someone responded. If they guy said "wow - coooool!" there'd be no problem, right? But no - instead he made his own comment which you didn't like.

It could/would have been just as easy to say "I need to extend my wifi in my apt/house/etc" without mentioning the iPad, no?

If you're going to invite commentary, like posting on a message board, you should have thick enough skin to deal with whatever comments you get.

With your new iPad, buy an iBook on proper grammar, spelling and punctuation. Please.

lol well said.

I carry mine around and for the msot part everybody in my highschool is in love with it mostly because its something different that nobody else has i think but none the less ill take it and run. I did get the "its only a giant ipod touch" from some guy on facebook thats a windows lover and mac hater anyway goin on and on about how hed rather have a ipod touch and how ipad lost camera and all and i was like uhh...ipod touch dont have a camera either... and he just didnt say anything. So yea its really amusing listenin to people bash it and all. It suits my needs so I dont care

I was insulted by my boss when I brought my iPad to work on April 5. He said his opinion of me went down a notch.

Of course I asked him if he ever used one and he said no.

I have talked with him before about Apple stuff and he's pretty much hung up on the price of the hardware. He said he can get a much more powerful machine for less money.

I didn't bother arguing with him as I'm sick and tired of explaining to people the differences in hardware and software between Macs and PCs. I basically told him then don't buy Apple stuff. Just leaves more for me. :)
