Actually she has a point if you're saving for something really expensive like a wedding. On the other hand, if you're using "your" money for an iPad, she shouldn't criticise you for spending it on what you want, lest you criticise her for spending $200 of "her" money on perfume or boots.

Heh. True, although I've met the saving target we set for the budget, so its not like i'm spending money i promised her.

She wasn't really having a go at me, it was more of a "sigh, roll eyes, another gadget???" type conversation.

She does have many many shoes, although nothing stupidly expensive, she's pretty sensible.

I wouldn't necessarily say that I've been insulted for having an iPad, but I can say that I have successfully converted a few people who were against the device before even seeing it.

I work as a manger at a busy restaurant, which has 3 colleges within 3 miles, so suffice to say that we see our fair share of techno-minded people. We're open all night on weekends, and when I pull this shift I will bring along my iPad and MiFi card to help pass the long hours.

Last week I can honestly say that a line formed around my table when I first pulled my iPad out, everybody wanted to take a look at it. But one guy kept hating on it about the lack of multitasking. So I politely showed him that in most cases it's a non-issue since most of the apps will keep your place when you switch over. I pulled up apple.com, switched to my email app, then went back to safari and up popped apple.com again. The guy was like "oh, I guess that's no big deal after all"...and by the time he left he said he was considering buying one.

Another of my coworkers was worried about the flash support, but after showing her the iPad friendly pages and the YouTube app she too was a convert. I think that the media has done a good job of making the iPad look bad and once people actually get a hands-on, most will see it's true capabilities.

Give it time. When the iPhone came out people flamed it for being a crappy phone, and thanks to the firmware updates the thing blew up. Isn't what all of this y'all are going thru part of the the whole 'early adopter' definition?

Once Apple fixes the glaring flaws with the iPad or add some awesome features (file system, textbooks in the book store, multitasking, etc) then these threads will be replaced with threads about how too many people have iPads.

I was hugely insulted last week. I visited my brother & my 8 y.o. niece said she was happy to see me because she wanted to play with my iPad. :)D).

My goodness, don't we have some whiny bitches on this board? Good grief! Never fails... <not directed to anyone directly above me on this page>

I've never seen a bigger collection of anal nitpickers than on these forums... fanboy this, hater that, punctuation nazis, spelling nazis, you name it. Good gravy.

I think you used <> when it would be more correct to use ().

The only remark I have gotten so far is when I first bought the iPad April 5th I was using it in the mall, getting aquainted and such, and some random guy just walked by saying "is it everything you hoped for" and I just said yep it's awesome. Of coarse other than the typical "it's just a big iPod touch" And to that I think we all know the answer.

IE - to the person who told the staples employee that they wanted to extend their wifi because they just got an iPad. Why mention the iPad? Were you trying to look cool? Be more interesting? You opened the door for a comment and can't be surprised that someone responded. If they guy said "wow - coooool!" there'd be no problem, right? But no - instead he made his own comment which you didn't like.

Honesty?

I had the same initial response, although I didn't insult anyone, I said that the iPad was just a big iPod touch. Then of course I went to the apple store to get a new keyboard and they had the iPad in stock. I played with one for a while and left without one. I liked it but couldn't reason buying one. It kept nagging on my mind though and I kept torturing myself watching people do iPad demos on YouTube. I ultimately decided that I wanted one and might as well just get one. So, I did and here a week later, I haven't used my MacBook pro since I brought the iPad home.

Are you moaning about the moaners?!

First person who teased me at work 2 weeks ago bought his iPad over the weekend.

I was told an iPad is not a computer, it's a media device.

That's not an insult. It's pretty close to the mark. I would generally agree. If I were writing an 800 page treatise on the impact of media on human freedom, I would use a laptop. If I am surfing the web on my coach or watching a movie on the plane, I use the iPad.

Just try to avoid watching MBP demos on YouTube or you might go back to old habits ;)

I don't have mine yet, but upon learning that I ordered one, a co-worker insisted that I was trying to show off. I don't deplete my finances to show off. I am a freelancer with dwindlng resources thanks to this recession, and plan to use the iPad not as a toy, but as a networking tool.

I also own a Segway, so I'm used to hecklers online. The iPad is the popular kid in class. It's used on CBS' The Insider. No PC netbooks get red carpet treatment like that, so of course it's jealousy.

I have had nothing but positive feedback, even a few strangers fawned over it (which is mostly creepy, please stop approaching me like that).
