I've never met any celebrities myself, but my brother got asked for directions by none other than Hugh Hefner! My parents house faces a street that runs alongside highway 17 in San Jose, CA. People stop to ask us for directions at least 2-3 times a year. So, one night my brother was out working on his truck and a Mercedes pulled up. Inside was Hugh Hefner and a hot Asian lady. They were headed for Santa Cruz.

As for myself, I've only ever seen celebrities, and my luck isn't all that great:
-Neil Patrick Harris (Doogie Howser)
-Whil Weaton :)
-New Kids On The Block (don't ask)

FALLING INTO LIFE with Clint Eastwood

Sometimes after wathcing a doco on a celebrity I feel as if I have met them. Here is one such meeting in a prose-peom.

FALLING INTO LIFE
What A Run It’s All Been, Eh Clint?

Several days ago I watched a documentary Clint Eastwood: A Life in Film with its special emphasis on the movies he made and his philosophy of life and of making films. This French doco was screened on SBS in Australia on 6 October 2007 at 1:55 to 3:20 p.m. I made a few notes because I have seen many of Eastwood’s films as an actor and as a director; I had also seen one or two docos about him in previous years and this was a new one for me. I printed out a Wikipedia(internet encyclopedia) outline of his life, gathered my notes from the TV program and after 80+ hours of quasi and semi-gestation I set about to write following prose-poem. -Ron Price, “Section VIII Poetry,” Pioneering Over Four Epochs, 10 October 2007.

As you say, Clint, there is a certain
falling into life, fate if you like and
trying to make the parts of life come
together may be, as you said in your
last lines, impossible. And yet we try.

We both got our first big breaks in ’59:
you in the TV series Rawhide and me
in the early stages of an emerging world
religion that had been in Canada for just
on 60 years with only 700 members then.

While you were becoming one of those
instant international stars back in the ‘60s
I was going to uni and trying to work out
the enigmas of a bipolar disorder which
had no name then—just a lot of trouble,
angst and a series of crises that threatened
to arrest my life’s unfoldment and blast
all hopes which my progress engendered.

I was finishing my career teaching in high
schools when Dirty Harry appeared and
was settling down into Perth Western
Australia when that series of four films
finished in 1988.....and what a run those
years were for me, too, Clint, me too....

You had your Escape from Alcatraz
in ’79 about a real escape back in ’62
when I began my pioneering life and
my escape from the normalities of a
middle class life. In ’79 I began my
escape from BPD, a lifelong journey.

You were redefining yourself as director
and I was redefining myself as a writer
and poet little by little beginning in the
early 1970s. You achieved so much,
Clint. I’ve got to take my hat off to you.

Way back to your first marriage in 1953
when the Kingdom of God was getting
its kick-start in Chicago, I was in grade
four and in love with Susan Gregory:
what a run it’s all been, eh Clint, eh?

I've met Grant Denyer when Sunrise toured Australia's capitals. I also know someone who saw Daniel Radcliffe back in 2005 when he was in South Australia filming December Boys.

EDIT: I might as well put that person I know up as being famous as well. Here are some of the best fan made music videos you will ever see.

I also know her friend who's also in these ones.

Bringing this back from the dead, last night I met Andy Dick. Let's just say he lives up to his name. He was drunk, and probably more, pawing everyone (male and female). Even his body guard wanted to beat him up. And worse, he tried to drive himself home, completely smashed. His lawyer was there with him, watching over him. He should have been protecting him from himself instead of protecting him from us. Someone got his number though, his real number, and crank called him.

I would tell you all what he said to me while trying to go into the bathroom, but it's not something I can repeat here.

Well I have met some Russian celebrities as I am from Russia. But I don't think it could be interesting for you. :)
But there is one person and everybody know him.
When I was in Italy in Madonna di Campiglio ski resort there was an ice kart-racing on the lake. Famous formula-1 racers were taking part in it. I've met Michael Schumacher there but unfortunately felt shy and didn't take autograph from him.. :( Then I've met him couple of times on the slope. His formula-1 racing is much better than his skiing! :D

I went to a charity flea market in Japan this summer and someone told me one of the guys who were helping out selling things and carrying chairs and tables and doing all sorts of grunt work was a winner of American Idol. I don't watch that show so I didn't know who he was but his name was Justin Guini (something like that) and he had really curly hair. He was very friendly and nice and seemed like just another guy - no entourage or agent or anything like that. I would have guessed a guy like that would be snotty and full of himself.

Friend of mine used to work at a outdoor theater and she met many celebs, the ones I remember are Miles Davis (said he was creepy) Pat Metheny (nice but messy) and Dizzy Gillespie (very nice and sweet).

celebrities..... meh

I know Lindsay Hollister. She has had a pretty good career in Hollywood.

I have met and chatted with Kevin Schwantz a number of times. He was the World Champion 500cc motorcycle racer in 1993. I've attended a MotoGP race, as well as a bunch of AMA Superbike races, so I've met a bunch of others (like Nicky Hayden and Eric Bostrom). But the coolest experience was seeing Valentino Rossi up close (I wouldn't call it "meeting" him, however).

I know General Barry McCaffrey. He was one of the famous generals from the first Gulf War, and then went on to serve as the Director of the ONDCP for President Clinton. I've met him on a number of occasions, to include having lunch with him one day at the White House.

I have always thought it was funny that I ran into Jerry Butler at a McDonalds on the outskirts of Los Angeles in the early '90s.

Since I grew up around the University of Virginia, I remember running into Ralph Sampson around town alot. I'm not sure it fully counts as "meeting" him, but it was pretty exciting for a young kid.

Sorry... I just felt like digging up some old threads tonight. :D

I have met some people who are well-known in certain circles, but never any celebs. I met Bob Heil at the 2005 Ham-Com radio convention, he is the founder and owner of Heil Sound (I was purchasing a Heil headset). He sometimes travels with Joe Walsh (who is an amateur radio operator) though Joe wasn't at this event. An interesting tidbit, David Letterman has a Heil PR-40 on his show. Or atleast he did at one time, not sure if he still uses that or not. The following year I met Julius Jones who owns a company that make some very popular ham radio equalizers and I met Chip Margelli who actually was on an episode of the Jay Leno show where he and another radio operator demonstrated that CW could beat text messaging over a cellphone. I haven't personally met Mike Braun but he is a radio operator who I was in contact with back when he was in High School and won the Teen Jeopardy Championship, I have the tape somewhere of him winning the 75 grand. I also never met Art Bell (Founder of the great show Coast to Coast AM, though I think these days he is 100% away from the show) personally, but he is a radio operator who used to (and may again now that he has moved back to the states) hang out on the 75 meter ham radio band (3.840Mhz was the exact spot) and I made contact with him and received a QSL card to confirm the contact from him.

No, I feel a bit left out.

We had this discussion in the work, one guy met Muhammad Ali, another played a round of golf with Pres Bush snr at the Walker Cup. The best I can do is Tommy Sheridan on the tube but I don't like him, and a contestant from Big Brother once talked to me over the phone in the pub, but I didn't know who they were.

A few summers ago I went out for breakfast at a small cafe near my house. After ordering I started looking around and realized that William H. Macy was sitting at the table behind mine. I would have said hi but I didn't want to disturb him while he was eating .

Given where I live, its a bit of a wonder that I haven't seen any other celebs. The local bowling alley has a display case though with the shoes and ball that Princess Di used when she bowled there while here on vacation in 1995. It also contains a printout of the bowling scores she and her sons got (I believe she had a 54 and one strike while William won.)
Edit: An article about it is here.

I am a big Depeche Mode fan, and my old Police station is in a road near to some recording studios they were using to make an album. I came out of the office one day and Martin Gore walked straight past me. I wasn't sure what to say, and was a little star struck, but I summoned the courage up to ask if he was actually that "guy from Depeche Mode - you know, Dave Gahan" (Dave is the lead singer, and I had got them mixed up being all amazed at who I was talking to).

Martin replied "No, I am that bloke from Depeche Mode, Martin Gore" at which point my brain melted and i stood with a horrified look on my face. Obviously seeing that I was a moron Martin walked off, and in order to recover the situation I shouted out "Hey cool - keep it up".

That's me - keeping it real with the kids at the skatepark.

We saw Harrison Ford at my cousin's wedding out in some rural hotel in Iowa. Apparently, he was having dinner in the hotel while his helicopter was being refueled. On the way out, my uncle spotted him and asked if he would autograph his leather jacket, because my uncle is a big Indiana Jones fan and bought the exact same jacket used in the films (he wears it on nice occasions, such as the wedding mentioned above). Turns out Mr. Ford is a very nice guy, took a few pictures with us, chatted for a few minutes, and then left.

I've met the Governor of Iowa a few times, met Richard Dawkins (gave a lecture at my college), met the Dixie Chicks backstage at a concert (my mom know some lady who had connections, I guess...), saw President Bush speak in Iowa, and have met the local news people quite a few times.

Haven't met anyone considered super famous, but I'm not really smitten by entertainment industry folks, I'd like to meet some of the famous folks in science.
