On The Interweb Thingy!
Many years back I was working for Blockbuster video in Virginia Water (UK) when in walk two huge fellas and a guy in a baseball cap and thick jacket. One guy blocks the door, the capped guy looks at the videos on the shelves and the other meat head comes straight up to me. I'm reaching for the panic button when the meat head smiles and I the other guy takes off his cap. Lo and behold it's Bruce Willis! He asked for some advice on Videos. It was around the time that 'Die Hard With A Vengeance' was out and I was itching to tell him to hire it! :p

Before I get asked 'Blue Lagoon', 'Mary Shelley's Frankenstein' and two foreign/arty films. Can't remember the titles anymore!

Anyhoo.....I didn't ask for his autograph because I was at work and it wouldn't be correct. He was much shorter than I'd imagined but was a nice bloke.

Also whilst working there I met Russ Abbot, Bruce Forsyth, Nick Faldo and Sam Torrence.

-------

An old girlfriend of mine had a friend who was an extra in movies. He was busy helping on the set of 'The Leading Man' and back then my girlfriend was a huge Bon Jovi fan. Her friend cleared it with the set and we were invited along to say hello to Jon. It was a freezing day in February and we cruised our way into central London for the day. We sat on the stoop outside the theater where they were filming and out he strolls with my girlfriends friend to come and so hello to us. We do the old polite English thing and Jon jumps in to bitch about the weather. He points out that we're mad sitting on the cold concrete just to say hello and invites us into watch the rest of the days filming. He gets us a cup of tea, we chat a bit more and he heads off to lunch. We hung around all day and chilled watching the filming with an endless supply of tea. Twas a great day....and the girly was even happier when the next day her friend dropped off signed albums and pictures for us! Sweet! :)

I've met James Earl Jones. Had about a 30 minute conversation with him several years ago.

Met Steve Wozniack eons ago - he was signing autographs at a computer store around the time the Apple //e came out. Got an autograph and spoke to him about software piracy (he thought, back then, that the kids who were cracking all those Apple II games would probably grow up to be great computer programmers).

Had dinner one night a few tables over from Merv Griffin in NYC about a month before he died.

That's about it, though. Can't think of any others at the moment.

I attended an exclusive after-party for a fundraising event in Victoria a few years back. My friends worked at the radio station who was sponsoring it and got us in, as it was not open to the public. Saw kid Rock perform solo, then he brought out members of the Eagles and the Tragically Hip along with David Foster on keyboards for an amazing jam session. Chad Kruger from Nickelback then came out for some duets with Kid Rock and Pamela Anderson was goofing around on the drum kit.

Chris Judd was there, stoned out of him mind and then I also had an awesome conversation with Keifer Sutherland at the bar. I remember him buying himself and me a rum & coke, handing the waitress 2 $20 bills and saying, "Keep the change". :D He was also impressed when I told him that his grandfather was the Premier of our province (Sask), as he said not many people knew that. ;)

It was an amazing night!

Otherwise, I met Kevin Nealon in NYC a couple years ago, Laird Hamilton in Maui 2 years ago and saw Steve Van Zandt from the Sopranos in the Mirage in Vegas a few months ago.

I'm sure there's more, but that's all that's coming to me right now...

Kid Rock's Pamela Anderson, not mine. ;) We weren't engaged yet at the time. :D
I never even knew you were engaged to Kid Rock! ;)

When I'm in Beverly Hills, it's easy to spot the celebrities. They are the ones who don't dress up while shopping. The tourists don't dress up much either, since they want to stay comfortable. So it's the wanna-be celebrities and the well-to-do non-celebrities who are dressed up there.

Bill Cosby spoke at my college graduation, and shook everyone's hands as we came up for our diplomas. So I guess I met him.

Did you graduate from Temple University? If you didn't, I'm surprised Bill Cosby would've spoken at another school. He always seems slightly obsessed with Temple since he went there.

AMH was also on Saturday Night Live for a year. Have you seen photos or video of that? He looked like a little kid back then!
I didn't see any of the SNL stuff - not a huge fan. But I imagine it was good. I was happy to see him make a comeback on The Dead Zone.

I make my living in the film industry. Too many celebs to list...
The cool thing though, is that most of them are so normal. You can talk to them about anything and most are very kind about having conversations with you.

Same here. I've been to TRL @ MTV in Times Square a few times and have met a bunch of people.

When I was a little kid, this guy who you've probably never heard of (and I had to google an old Blues roster to remember his named) lived across the street from me. That's about it though.

i only met one non-atlete celebrity (that i'm aware of), christy romano, and this was back in 2003. it was when me and my friends were at the beach in la jolla (as we did every week during summer) and some of them spotted them at a nearby street with a bunch of eateries. i walked back there and saw them at the gift shop and talked to her for a few minutes. i told her i like her shows and she's a nice person and after that, they presumably went home.

i did catch her shoe size was a 7, which in an episode of kim possible which aired after this meeting (the one with the speedy bebes) she wanted a pair of running shoes in a size 7.

met a bunch of baseball players, only going through the notables.

first is when i messed with horacio ramirez (annoying laker fan) after the lakers choked in the 2004 finals, then he insulted me saying that my mavs have no championships. the next year when the lakers missed, he waved me off, it was like he knew that i was the annoying laker fan.

during 2005 spring training, i yapped to chipper jones for about 20 minutes and we talked mostly about sports in between him signing autographs (i got one) and the mob. he's a gator fan and hates uga, and he doesn't know a lick about gene doping (i was scheduled to have a genetics exam at the time i was there, but already aced it). he's a nice guy and very country.

talked to joey devine for three hours in 2006, he's a fun guy. it's too bad he gets sent down too much.

jarrod saltalamacchia is another interesting one, he lied to me about his eye condition too and likes pulling my leg in the two times i've talked to him. interesting since he married a woman 14 years older than him (he's 22).

met jake peavy when he was a no name (but i still loved him), and just said hi to him, but i hope to meet him again.

unless they are someone i like or i happen to be in the area, i don't really care about meeting a celebrity.

Had a chat with Peter Murphy. Crazy fellow. A lot of fun.

When I was in college, I sang backup for Barry Manilow when he came through town. It was long ago. All I remember is that he was SO TINY!
Funny side-note that story.. the sound engineer for Barry Manilow's tour had just come off of the NIN/Marilyn Manson 'Self Destruct' tour. He had a huge pink mohawk and was a fascinating guy. He seemed to know way more about the biz than Barry did. lol

Well I don't recall meeting anyone famous, but my friend met Bill Gates in a little town. He asked him where a good place to eat was.

I met Steve Jobs in 1989 at the International Design Conference in Aspen. I was part of group of 20 design students that were invited/treated to attend. (the rest of the attendees were super famous Italian Designers of the time) Various "design gods" came and spoke to our little student group, led by the famous 60's Ad Man Milton Glaser during lunch in a casual "make a circle" setting. Steve Jobs was the guest du jour one day.

This is about when Steve had left Apple and was involved with Next. He told us about his time at Apple, and how he drove everyone crazy with his attention to detail, such as insisting that all the assembly line machines were precisely lined up in a perfect grid, and how he did the white glove test in a factory setting. (Having experienced an internship at Navistar that same summer, seeing how filthy an engine manufacturing plant was, I knew how his employees must have thought he was an alien.) His attention to what others thought was minute detail left an impression on me.

From that moment on, I was in awe of Steve, my Jedi Master. That's all the celebrity I need. Forget Brad Pitt et all. Intelligence and business cunning is way more sexy.

A friend of mine does tech work in Chicago and this story always cracks me up:

I was doing a portable process projection for the short Lived "Oprah Winfrey presents" for ABC at a classic old Chicago Theatre (The Patio). They Had roped off the Downstairs Womens John pending the Arrival of Her Highness. While the rest of the crew shot in the Auditorium I snuck into one of the stalls & drpped a duece worthy of Jumbo the elephant (Chorizo Burrito for Breakfast). I cleaned up and tossed the paper into another stall. I then locked the other 4 stalls and shimmied out. I cracked the door on My stall thus setting the spring on my trap. I snuck back upstairs and waited till it was time for me to go to work. After a couple Hours her highness blew in to the theatre. After about 20 minutes the producer starts questioning everyone in a Panic, asking them if they used the roped off Bathroom. Evidently Ms. O sprung the trap & was greeted with My Massive turd! They questioned the crew for almost an hour before We got back to work. My 2nd man almost gave Me away cuz he wanted to laugh so Hard he was starting to Cry!

As for myself I've met a bunch of celebrities at various screenings/conventions/signings etc. I had a table at a convention next to Irwin Keyes the whole weekend. At one festival I lent film materials to, the organizers told me what a prick Fred Williamson was to them, though he was nice to me while signing dvds etc. Hal Needham (director of Smokey and the Bandit) was there also and he was so great. My mom dated Scott Glenn in college and helped him in the theater department. I met Charlton Heston at a theater opening where they played his movies on all the screens and got a book signed, he was very nice. I'm friends with Mark Dawson (worked for him on a Bob Crane documentary), Richards son. He's told me great stories about all the celebs his dad was friends with. Though I've yet to meet him, I just lent Quentin Tarantino 35mm trailers for the Venice Film Festival retrospective he's hosting. I met William shatner in 1990 at a Car rental lot where he was film a tv spot for the company, he looks real washed up in the pics. I met Robert Wagner at the theater I work at during a premiere of a short movie he was in. He mentioned how he thought Geoffrey Rush was great as Peter Sellers, but thought the film took a lot of liberties with the truth. I went on the set of VIP for a day and met Pam Anderson and saw Tommy Lee hanging around.
