In a Mauve Dream
I've met a Few...

I work in Theatre and my boss is good friends with old stalwarts like Leonard Nemoy; My ex-girlfriend used to work as a nanny at the Colony in Malibu, so I have met/talked with several famous or recognizable people. But the only one worth mentioning:

Angelina Jolie made me a drink: a whiskey coke; San Diego in 1995 when she was out pimping the (lame) movie "hackers". I had never heard of her; I was a staff photog for my college paper and I got there at the right time. I confused her for the publicist and almost asked her out (we're the same age). That was pretty frakin' cool.

I think you already posted your Angelina Jolie experience in this very thread. But it's a long and long-lasting thread, so you're forgiven in my book. I can't even remember where I put my wallet… :)

I saw Gary Sinise at Disney World. He gave a little speech about how he came with his family on vacation. Then they had a parade down one of the streets so I took a picture of him and his family there.

It must be cool for you people in California, NYC, and Las Vegas meeting famous people pretty often.

Nemesis, you are one lucky mofo. You had lunch with the greatest man on earth.

I've only met Sam Neill (Jurassic Park, The Piano) really. it was at a screening of a short film that I had been DOP and editor on, and he said it was really well cut (that was actually the FIRST thing he said about it, even though he didn't know who i was at that point). he commented on how difficult it is to edit your own shots. Had a reasonably long chat with him.

i've also interviewed Hammond Peek (do an IMDB search on him, he's a sound recordist on LOTR, Frighteners, Heavenly Creatures, King Kong). He's a funny guy...many anecdotes up this man's sleeve.

oh yeah, i talked to Michael Dorn at at Star Trek convention several years ago.

I auditioned for one of Jason Gunn's shows (NZers will know who he is), and he was the one who auditioned me. hahar. didn't get in though :(

I'm hoping to meet Matt Bellamy when I go to see Muse in September. Not much of a chance though >(

I've never met any real celebrities, but Orlando Bloom mowed my friend's yard the other day! A movie is being filmed in my town, and they just loved my friend's house. She was about to mow when someone ran up and offered to pay her to wait and let Orlando Bloom mow it the next day. There were so many takes, he actually mowed a significant portion of her front yard! Pretty cool for her, I'd say.

Duff-Man says....I used to work in the music business and as such met quite a few people:
Emerson, Lake & Palmer
Robert Fripp
Brian Eno
Motorhead (great guys...really funny!)
Bob Geldof (and the rest of the Boomtown Rats)
the Cars
Conrad Plank (legenday german producer...r.i.p.)
lots of the semi-obscure punk-era bands/people:
Richard Hell
Tom Verlaine
Pere Ubu
Only Ones
XTC
Killing Joke
more too but I can't think of them at the moment

Werner Herzog (film director)

and while trying to catch the ferry home from Vancouver I was at the bus station and they were filming a scene for X-Files...I saw Gillian Anderson standing about 15 feet away....the director guy was telling people they could walk through and everything but to not look or smile at the camera...I was going to wait so I could say I was on the X-Files but I had to get that ferry.....damn.....oh yeah!

I'm a professional musician, so I've met and played for more celebs than I could name, from Blair from "The Facts of Life', to Dick Schapp, to various Unsers and other racing guys, (hey, I live in Indy), Vivica Fox, gave direstions to John Corbett from Northern Exposure (he's really tall), etc... but probably the best was the night I was playing a gig at a restaurant in Indy and a buddy that I was playing with that night brought Billy Preston with him. He used to work for Billy, and Billy was in town for the night, so I got to play 5 feet from Billy Preston all night, which was a little odd, looking up from my keyboard to see Billy Freakin' Preston staring back at me. We hung out on my breaks. Great guy.

Sorry to revive an old thread, but...

I just met Jerry Bruckheimer. My wife and I were at a free preview screening of the new movie "National Treasure" in New York, and he was there to present it. He said it wasn't 100% finished... "It needs some work on the colors, and the sound isn't right".

Good movie, by the way. Not the greatest, most amazing film ever, but certainly entertaining. It reminds me of a tamed-down version of the novel "Angels & Demons" by Dan Brown (of DaVinci Code fame). I thoroughly enjoyed it, and I couldn't argue with the price!

Afterward, we walked outside the theater, and Bruckheimer was there, signing autographs, and we got to meet him. He seemed like a very nice guy. Not very tall.

Keep posting your celebrity encounters!

EDIT: Added the photo of Mr. B.

I should've written this in before... I met and spoke to Twyla Tharp a few years ago. I was working at a temp job in a rehearsal studio building buzzing people in through the door. She was rehearsing something there, and we got to chatting. Very nice lady! I made her a drawing of Pinky and the Brain. How random is that?

I can't tell you how many celebs I've met/spoke to/worked with - it just sounds too much like I'm blowing my own trumpet, or something. You could easily run it into the hundreds...

I'm interested, let's hear the list, or the highlights.

I met James Galway once while I was in college. He and my flute professer were good friends, and Galway stayed at his house while he was in town to play a concert. He and my dad are from the same place (Belfast, No. Ireland), so I sat and talked to him about that for a while.

One time when I was in Salt Lake City playing a concert with the Utah Symphony I met David Ogden Stiers (Charles E. Winchester, from M.A.S.H.). He was going to be conducting the orchestra the next day and I met him at the concert hall. Very nice guy.

My sister worked at Fred Seagal in West Hollywood for several years, so she met all sorts of famous people there. She once told Cameron Diaz not to buy a certain skirt because it made her legs look fat!

Judge Reinhold (Billy Rosewood from the Beverly Hills Cop movies) came to my workplace for a tour, then had lunch with a group of us. He was a pretty nice guy, very shy.

While working as a DJ for a college radio station (WJHU 88.1FM baby) I met several musicians while we conducted backstage interviews: Mike Oldfield, Daevid Allen (of Gong), Bill Bruford and Dave Stewart, Danny Elfman, Ozric Tentacles (man were they ever stoned!), Steven Wilson (of Porcupine Tree), Adrian Belew and Bill Bruford (who remembered us from a few years before ). Was backstage at a Marilyn Manson show in Philly because a co-worker's cousin was the guitarist for the opening act, godhead. Saw Twigggy Ramirez, and also a kitty litter pan that MM had allegedly pissed into as a prank on the boys in godhead. Nice work.

Met Cal Ripken Jr. and his brother Billy at a bar once.

That's about it, I guess.
