This is my first attempt at HDR. Its not a true HDR photo since it was created out of 1 jpeg. Opinions?

I doubt that scene benefited much from the HDR treatment -despite the single jpg technique. I imagine the water was already pretty vibrant and the sky was already pretty dull.

Taken with a P&S Canon G9. I need to get an SLR with a big CMOS so I can take night shots at higher ISOs and avoid the noise.

Great Shot fett! How'd you make your HDR so smooth?

Thanks! I haven't done very much HDR so I'm not 100% sure what I did but I'll give you all the details I can remember.

3 handheld exposures. I metered off the sky and bracketed the shots with +2 and -2 exposure compensation.

Light exposure: 1/100 at f/8
Normal exposure: 1/250 at f/8
Dark exposure: 1/640 at f/8

In photomatix pro I think I turned the strenght down a bit so it a less hdr look. I can't remember if I changed any other settings. I then processed the hdr jpeg in lightroom to darken and then added some glow to the lights in front of the house in photoshop.

Here are some of the other I did that day.

Here's one I took a few years ago but didn't take separate exposures of the picture so I made an HDR from one jpg. It never quite looks as good when you do it this way, but I still like the way it turned out.

1st HDR Ever, wife's V-day roses

<<will insert a better photo here, when I can take some day pics that I can capture in RAW>>

The critique was right on, so I will improve before I post another. ;)

HDR comprised of 8 or so photos of varying shutter speed.
30mm
f 9

I'm still pretty new at this so forgive me if this is a dumb question.
How do you get "8 or so" photos from a moving object (the water)?
I'm confused.
I thought maybe it was 8 images from one RAW source but the clouds tell me otherwise.

After seeing this thread I wanted to try. Unfortunately it is obvious I am an amateur.
<snip>

You need to clear out the background--which is very distracting. Also, what is HDR bringing to this photo? In fact, I'd think it would be more interesting with harsh highlights and shadows (using, perhaps, a side-flash or something of the sort?).

Oh, and also, flowers look better when they're damp. You'll note at many florists they spray their bouquets on the way out.

First Go!

Heres my first try at HDR with a pretty uninspiring original image of the house next door. Loving the colours from HDR, even if i've gone a little OTT.

Feedback please!!

I know you can't do anything about it, but the tree is distracting... it makes the subject completely unclear. My eye isn't pulled to any part of the photo--I'm just kinda wandering.

Also, the sign is annoying. Definitely doesn't fit in with the look of the house.

I do love the colors though! Especially the brick...

What software do you all use to combine the photos and then export them? You might have more than just one program.

My second attempt at HDR. First was disaster.

This is made from 1 RAW. I'm not entirely sure that I actually like it, but I'm surprised by how different it looks from the original picture.

Here's my 3rd attempt.

A bit too orange I think, but I like the whole process a lot.

I really like both of those shots roux.

The first shot on this page is my favorite. I like the serene reflection on the water.

I kinda like the orange, it definitely makes the picture stand out.

Yeh, admittedly the image itself isn't particularly great, it was a bit of a throwaway snap which seemed to transfer well to the world of HDR.

I can appreciate that people get wound up with HDR images however there's just something about them, when done well, which I just love.

Thanks for your honesty!

I posted this in Pic of the Day also, so you may have already seen it.
