Yeh, admittedly the image itself isn't particularly great, it was a bit of a throwaway snap which seemed to transfer well to the world of HDR.

I can appreciate that people get wound up with HDR images however there's just something about them, when done well, which I just love.

Thanks for your honesty!

I'm glad you took it well :)

I entered into a photo contest a few years ago, and got third (not first) b/c one judge of three found a fence in the foreground annoying... although he admitted himself there was nothing to be done about it. I don't want to complain, merely highlight the occasional impossibilities...

I've done that many times. My fav is a carousel shot with nasty backlighting. My masking was awful ( notice the edges??)

I know, that was just a weird one! The clouds were neat that day, but that pic was a bit bright.

I must of deleted the originals. I want to get back out there again, but closer to the lake, the clouds were like that again today.

Visited a local Stately Home today, the light was very dull and overcast so used a touch of HDR to breathe some life into a couple of them:

Can you folks help me understand.
I'm old school photoshop expert and never felt the need to upgrade from 6.0 ( yea I know- Ancient).
I combine the two or three images in PS the hard way to get the dynamic range where I want it from a hugely contrasty scene.
Could you please coach me as to how you are doing it or of there's a filter or Plug in that does the mixing. Thanks!

Many of us are using a program called Photomatix and not Photoshop. PS CS3 (and I think CS2) handles HDR images quite easily.

OK
Did my first try. WOW! That was easy! Have a look at the two side by side. My old-school hand composite in PS and the Photomatix version. I'll want to get some more time on Photomatix- to get better at the settings. I sure like the SPEED:D Thanks! This is going to be useful in the future

How do you guys get such dynamic images without any graininess. When I use Photomatix (I'm still very new to it) and I save the image I create it gets a lot of grain, whether it's from one RAW or three different pictures.
