The OP has not told us FROM WHERE she wishes to download.

For downloading from YouTube, the free app "ClipGrab" works great.
But downloading from other sites isn't so easy.

So... without more info from the OP (which I sense she will not provide), it's impossible to speculate further.

Good point. As a developer of a YouTube downloader, we analysed the market to see what competitors provide. And most of the software solutions like our SYC 2 provide support for the majority of online sources to download from. All video hosting websites work very similarly so it's fairly easy to support DailyMotion, Vimeo, etc. and so on if you've figured out YT.

If you can nail the process of extracting video from Twitter, I'd love to hear about it...

I just had an idea:
Does Apple make any Apps/plugins that give users the ability to save videos from websites?

This would be an amazingly useful App!

Absolutely not.
By definition it is usually ‘not legal’ to download video content if there is no option available.
The author will have selected copy protected or something similar to protect their assets.
Any ‘downloader’ you download...... 🤔 could generally have malicious code just due to the nature of it.

It is ironic, as one of your other posts is EXTREMELY paranoid about HS security......😝

Hey guys,

I'm not going to be downloading anything illegal or breaking any laws so there's no need to be concerned.

The longer I wait to figure this problem out the more videos are deleted from websites and that means I'm unable to see them ever again... 😢 😥 😓

Thank you so much for any advice!

I use Airy $19.95

I do it from the menubar with a script.

As many have mentioned, youtube-dl is a effective, flexible and free solution. And, despite this is a Mac-Forum, it also works on Windows and Linux. youtube-dl page. In my case, I use home-brew (actually, I use that too to install most of my software and update all automatically), so I installed it that way. Its possibilities are impressing: select & embed subtitles, thumbnail, define format(s), bypass geo-restriction, insert passwords, select in playlists, react to viewcount, restrict sizes, download rate, postprocessing & recode, etc.

I have in my menubar the AppleScript icon, I click on it and select the "Download video" script. A window pops up and I copy paste the url.

Here the Apple-script, which can be also integrated as Automator workflow or Touch Bar Quick-Action. Well, you have to have youtube-dl installed.

display dialog "URL of Video to download" default answer ""
set link to text returned of result
tell application "Terminal"
do script "youtube-dl --all-sub " & link
end tell

(It downloads subtitles)

Just once I found a page where it did not work (dont remember if Blob-URLs), that for I used Firefox integrated media download possibilities (its media browser).

Best downloading video app from literally every site is Downie. Check it out. It has boosted my porn - I mean Inspiration videos folder impressively.

Just copy paste the url to app and it's done.

Safari does have an inbuilt way too.
1. In preferences/advanced - enable show develop menu
2. Option + Command + A and you'll see an area pop up at the bottom that has a whole lot of html.
On the left, you'll seen an option for 'by type' or 'by path', select 'by type' and if the page has videos, there will be a videos folder, open it, and then double click on the name, it will open a window, then simply right click and select 'download as'.
Don't know if you're going to get this but I've tired...with MacRumors ....and don't see the video folder. Am I missing something?

Many websites embed their videos so that the video is streamed, but those that include the video, or the link to the video, can be accessed this way. If you cannot see a videos folder, or an 'other' folder with videos in it, then there are not any to download. Some of the apps mentioned, are able to receive the videos that are streamed, and save them onto their systems, and essentially provide a link for you to download. I've resorted to purchasing what I need these days.

I just wanted to know if there were any updates on the best Download App to use for 2023?

I've purchased "Video DownloadHelper" but I haven't used it yet because it keeps asking me to install an external app... 😢😢😢

Thank you for your replies!

Is there another App that's cross platform?

I'm just looking for the best App as this is a really serious problem for me.

Wow, I'm really surprised this thread hasn't generated more discussion because I thought this would be a HUGE problem for the computer knowledgeable users on MacRumors.

Can anyone recommend a safe website that offers this without the need to install an App? I'm more than happy to pay a premium for the ability to download videos from websites!

I've not found a good one for use on Apple computers or Apple devices. If I want to download videos from websites I use a windows Pc and use Internet Download Manager

I've been using it for approx 7 years now and it's the best website video downloader I have ever used. I think in that 7 years there has only be 1 or two websites that it has not worked on.

I've been looking at this for a while and I'm still reading user reviews.

When I think about it now, the price doesn't really matter because it seems like EVERY company is moving their content to websites that stream video... There have been so many videos I've wanted to download, but have been deleted and I have no chance to access them again... 😭😭😭

Does anyone know the best downloader out there without any concern for price?
