There are enough problems with Crucial being discussed in this forum, including my own experience, that is seems "crazy" to me to take the chance with Crucial, especially when there are other brands out there, namely OWC, that are presenting NO fitment problems.

----------

I have no doubt that some are not having any issues with the Crucial product, but others are. In my case, I can say with certainty that my problem had nothing to do with not knowing how to use the folding RAM slots correctly. The DIMM's just simply do not fit properly. I can compare, side by side, the fitment of the Crucial RAM to the factory Apple RAM and the OWC. Both the Apple and OWC fit perfectly with no issues.

Can you post pictures of the Ram side by side and the memory slots. I'm surprised that you didn't do this already.

Could you please tell me if your Crucial ram is made in China or USA, as of this thread https://forums.macrumors.com/threads/1650257/, it's seems to be a problem with those modules made in USA.

Thanks

Chipster, I am not sure. On the sticker on the DIMM itself, there is no wording that specifically says "Made In..." but the sticker does have "United States" printed on it under one of the numbers.

Mine say "United States" where yours say "China."

If you decide to try to install them, just be careful as the plastic tab will damage with very little pressure.

Compare your RAM with the picture of 2013 iMac memory (http://www.crucial.com/store/mpartspecs.aspx?mtbpoid=81CE351CA5CA7304). It's not the same physically. Also, your iMac takes DDR3 PC3-12800 RAM, and your package says DD3-1600.

Thats only a generic picture  the use the same for diffrent modules, if you read this Thread https://forums.macrumors.com/showthre...1650257&page=2 you can see that the user tomnavratil is using correctly similiar modules (CT2K8G3S160BM 2x8GB), mine are (CT2K4G3S160BM 2x4GB).

Finally if you look at Wiki http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/DDR3 PC3-12800 = DDR3 1600 (it's the same thing).

Sam Spade, I'd suggest if you're looking for more help, please provide us with some tangibly useful information, please.

Some pictures of your RAM sticks, packaging, labels etc. Help us help you.

Maybe even a picture of your damaged RAM slots (suggest shining a flashlight on it and snapping a picture).

Again: Help us help you.

The memory in Chipster's picture is not 2013 iMac memory.

I can also confirm that this is incorrect. I bought the memory specifically recommended for the late 2013 iMac direct from Crucial in the UK. It's identical to Chipster's picture (except mine is the 2 x 8GB version - code CT2C8G3S160BMCEU). Mine is also marked "China" and it was straightforward to fit. I ran an extended memory test and there were zero errors.

It does seem that there are more issues reported with the USA manufactured Crucial RAM.

This. We've asked for pictures of the damage several times.

This thread is worthless without pictures.

Not trying to be rude. Thanks.

So he bought the wrong memory then tried to force it in?

It's plausible that the OP appears to have tried to fit Crucial sticks perhaps removed from a mid 2011 iMac?

I wanted to do the same thing but finally discovered that the memory compatible for the 2011 models are not compatible with the current iteration.

I bought the correct memory, and sold the 32Gb crucial RAM with the 2011 computer it was installed in. . Suggest the OP tried to force instal incompatible (admittedly similar looking) sticks.

Who knows? It's not really been made clear...

This thread has helped me. When I started it, I had no idea there was an ongoing issue with Crucial RAM. I plan to take up the issue with Crucial and Apple soon.

I'm not aware of an ongoing issue with Crucial RAM. Got a link to any information about that?

As far as many of us are concerned, you bought the wrong RAM. If you provide us some information with pictures, maybe things will become clear. Until then, this thread seems utterly pointless to me..

But maybe I'm the only one. :p

I know. This thread is just not delivering, at the moment. Maybe Sam doesn't want to admit he messed up. :p

Hope Apple shuts this guy down. Will try to make it Apple's fault that he tried to force fit the wrong memory

Some of you truly have a reading comprehension problem. I clearly stated in the first sentence of this thread that I purchased the Crucial RAM to upgrade the late 2013 iMac. Later in the thread, I provided the Crucial part # for the RAM, which is the exact product that Crucial recommends for the machine.

I did not try to "force" the incorrect RAM, or any RAM for that matter, into the machine.

There have been many recent discussions in various threads in THIS forum about fitment problems with Crucial RAM.

Have you tried cleaning out the slots which seem broken? I'm wondering if that soft divider is even critical to the ram functioning at all?

Will Apple take your machine back? I wonder if they'd even check the ram slots prior to accepting the return.
