“…instead of HDMI 2.1 to the disappointment of some users.”

What users? You could say this literally about anything on the new machines. “Didn’t include a gum ball dispenser… to the disappointment of some users”. SMH

to anyone with a brain who realizes a laptop at over $2k that shoved an hdmi port back on for absolutely no good reason couldnt even be bothered to have it run at the latest spec that has been widely available for over a year now.

"gee thanks apple for giving us a port back we didnt need because we could have interfaced with hdmi via existing ports, and bonus points for immediately dating it."

One week ago: “ we want HDMI back so we can use our portable computers in all kinds of settings where a monitor, projector, or TV is available/needed and we can use it if we didn’t bring an adapter/special cord”

today: “WE NEED HDMI 2.1 SO WE CAN RUN 8K DISPLAYS . MY LIFE IS LITERALLY RUINED, I CAN NO LONGER BE A PRO. TIM APPLE JUST BROKE INTO MY HOME, TIED ME UP WITH A DONGLE, STOLE MY WALLET, AND IS NOW BLUDGEONING ME TO DEATH WITH A THUNDERBOLT DOCK”

I would have loved USB-A. I can't find an external mouse that do not lag on an external monitor on my MacBook Air. This is very frustrating.
I think it's crazy to not have one on the machine. In a pinch and you need to access a thumb drive or something you've still got to carry a dongle. I think it makes more sense than an HDMI port, for an HDMI port you still need an HDMI cable, you could have an adaptor in that same location...

I get your point. But No one was waiting to buy this machine because of HDMI 2.1

Is there anything that replaces a flush-fitting USB-A thumb drive?

That's the one thing I have not seen available with USB-C, I believe because the actual storage is contained within the port itself and the USB-C connector isn't large enough.

They're very convenient as you can leave them plugged in without snagging on things.
I use a micro-SD adaptor that goes into the SD slots that are flush. I've got an extra 512GB of storage on my 2015 MBP this way. I mostly keep backups and 200GB of media files on there (if I wanted to play a movie, I'd probably transfer it to the main SSD to watch). I've not had any problems, I've been doing this with my last few MacBooks.

Nice computer but for a late 2021 release you would think they would have multiple HDMI 2.1 ports as opposed to none

I'm actually disappointed that for these expensive Macbook Pros, especially a large one like the 16", there are only 3 Thunderbolt 4 ports. If Apple can put in a large HDMI port and an SD card slot, why not a 4th Thunderbolt 4 port? Or if Thunderbolt 4 is not possible using the chipset, how about just an extra regular USB-C port? Space is not an issue on the 16", especially if there's an HDMI port shoehorned in that.

Seems like Apple is building this basically for the youtubers.

Well, whatever, at least the base config has 16GB of RAM and 512GB SSD, which should be the minimum anyway for the 13" Macbook Pro.

agreed. There is so much filler on MR nowadays.
question: did you get a warning from moderators for this post? Every time I post something critical they send me a nastygam.
I was wondering the same thing. I've never seen these types of comments re: MR profit motive tolerated. Maybe they'll be gone tomorrow ;)

I was looking forward to these, but the HDMI port is stuck at 2.0, disappointing really - Apple can’t decide which way to go: forward M1 Max & Screen, backwards w/Weight physical Function keys Size & Ports, stuck at HDMI 2.0. Kinda crazy all over the place. I’m sure they will sell a tons & tons of these, especially at those prices! LOL, I almost forgot, the Notch. 😱

Anyone know if the new MacBook Pro’s come with the new PCIe 4 slots? If so read and write should be much faster
