Your lack of knowledge about the the Mac is staggering and lends so much credibility to your posting.

----------

Yes, the Mac Mini has always been made out of Aluminum. Just because there are plastic parts on the Mac Mini, doesn't mean the Mac Mini was made out of Aluminum.

I've own every generation of Mac Mini made.
LOL. Confuse yourself often?

But let us assume we know what you meant. By your reasoning, the S3 and Note 2 and hell, every Android device is made out of metal. So why are you in this discussion. Seems you don't know.

P. S. Nice crappy, plastic Mac Mini you owned. Looks like a lego.

The body/shell is made of Aluminum

So the iPhone 5 is not made of Aluminum because the screen is made of glass?

I think the problem here is the use of the word "cheap", when really, I see this as a design flaw. I wouldn't consider a phone bending in your pocket user error. I quite often put phones in my back pocket, and yes, that includes the iPhone and have never seen damage remotely like this. This isn't something that, IMO, should happen without much more force exerted than a person could reasonable exert by simply sitting down, unless we are encroaching on 300lb+ people in every case which, while I can't rule out, seems improbable.

But did Apple cheap out? I think they just want with a very thin design. When you go thinner and lighter, you also lose structural support. It's sort of the name of the game.

People in this thread are comparing apples to oranges. AFAIK there is no polycarbonate body phone out there are thing as the iPhone 5 (yet). So it is pretty tough to say that polycarbonate is better than aluminum in this sense. I am going to go out on a limb and say that the polycarbonate, if made thin enough, is going to have similar limitations. Perhaps they will manifest more as cracks, rather than bends, but the end result will be the same; there will be structural damage to the phone.

Have you seen the One X? Almost as thin...

The body/shell is made of plastic and metal. So is the S3, Note 2, etc. But in your eyes, it was okay when Apple did. You are the living, breathing embodiment of an iFan. In your world, Apple invented everything, never does wrong and saves women and children from burning buildings? Poor thing. I bet you have a cheap plastic case on your iphone right now. And a screen protector. And you try to make a grand claim about Apple aluminum. Of course you have a case on your little toy phone. Don't want it to get dinged, scratched or bent. It is like a little delicate flower. I don't have to worry about that nonsense with the S3. Looks perfect and I have never needed a cover or screen protector. That is what happens when you actually buy a quality product. It also helps when slaves aren't assembling your electronics.

Lol its the opposite mate, and nope aluminum its not pretty if you dont polish it.

Dont understand why they didnt go for a satin finish.

According to the US Army Corps of Engineers, “Aluminum has
excellent corrosion resistance in a wide range of water and
soil conditions because of the tough oxide film that forms
on its surface.

I have a Note 2. Pretty much all plastic plus a glass screen.

I have a Mac Mini. Body/Shell made of Aluminum and plastic cover bottom.

Do you even own a Mac Mini or Note 2? I own both.

You silly argument about Mac Mini not being made of Aluminum isn't grounded on facts.

http://science.howstuffworks.com/aluminum1.htm

Other important properties of aluminum are listed below:

Melting point: 660 degrees C (933 K; 1,220 degrees F)
Boiling point: 2,519 degrees C (2,792 K; 4,566 degrees F)
Density: 2.7 g/cm3
High reflectivity
Nonmagnetic
Nonsparking
Resistant to corrosion

These final two properties make aluminum particularly useful. Its corrosion resistance is due to chemical reactions that take place between the metal and oxygen. When aluminum reacts with oxygen, a layer of aluminum oxide forms on the outside of the metal. This thin layer shields the underlying aluminum from the corrosive effects of oxygen, water and other chemicals. As a result, aluminum is especially valuable for use outdoors. It also doesn't produce sparks when struck, which means you can use it near flammable or explosive materials.

Why'd you buy a Note 2 if you hate plastic so much?

I don't hate plastic.

I prefer Aluminum over plastic.

What's so hard to understand?

I like the features and function of the Note 2. Can't say I'm a fan of the plastic and outer design of the Note 2. Hate the placement of the power button. Hate the touch buttons that I accidentally keep pressing on in landscape mode.

Usually, I only call things crappy or junk when I hate it. I guess it's different with you.

I said I prefer Aluminum over crappy plastic laptops.

I don't remember calling all plastic devices crappy.

I have 2 crappy plastic laptops. You can touch the plastic on my Toshiba plastic laptop and see it bend.

You mean you love crappy plastic?

You say the 3G and 3GS were junk because it's plastic.

Dude, you're very annoying with the way you express yourself by saying crappy plastic. Yes I prefer polycarbonate plastic over aluminum when it comes to portable devices. The scratches are more apparent on aluminum and the material gets extremely cold in the weather I live.

So please, I am not insulting your preference so stop insulting mine.

You don't like that I made a distinction between crappy plastic and plastic in general? I didn't say all plastic was crap. I said I prefer Aluminum over crappy plastic.

The iPhone 3G/3GS did use crappy plastic. I've own one. It was started to crack where the dock connector is. Glad I got rid of it and got an iPhone 4S.

As I mention a few days ago in another tread.

The iPhone 3G/3GS is the worst out of the iPhones.

You keep going around what you say. Didn't you say the plastic on the Note II is like the plastic on the 3G/3GS? When in fact, it does not use ''crappy'' plastic, it uses highly durable polycarbonate palstic.

And you also say crappy pc laptops, many of them use high grade polycarbonate plastic like Asus.

What now? You're going say polycarbonate is crap?

Edit: 3G/3GS also used polycarbonate plastic

----------

AFAIK, both the One X and Nokia 920 uses the same palstic the Note II uses. They're both rock solid and very scratch proof.

Not sure if it's capacitive, but probably. I'm talking about the 2 buttons left and right of the physical home button.

When I view stuff on landscape mode, my finger/palm keeps touching them.

The plastic on the Note 2 does feel like the iPhone 3G/3GS. The plastic on the iPhone 3G/3GS does feel cheap and it does crack.

So I guess if the Note 2 uses the same plastic as the iPhone 3G/3GS, then it isn't really good.

You like using military references to prove the strentgh of material so let me add that the cockpit canopy of the F-22 is also made of polycarbonate plastic.

Is it still not good? Have you ever held a One X or Nokia 920 to feel how solid the material is?

You've also made statements about all Samsungs being made of crappy plastic as well.

How fast can this man try and back peddle....do we really need to go through your post history and quote your generalised anti samsung/android/anti plastic hyperbole?

When did I say that?

Why do you keep accusing me of saying things I've never said?

Why do you keep on making up stuff?

I had a Samsung Galaxy tab. I currently own a Samsung Blu-ray player, a Samsung Plasma TV, a Samsung Android phone, and a Samsung Galaxy Note 2.

I think it's because you keep saying 'crappy plastic', when plastic has it's own advantages compared to aluminum. It might be better if you take a less 'offensive' approach. I don't have a problem with it though:)

When people say android devices are made of crappy plastic, what does that mean? Before the iPhone 4, most phones were made of plastic. Did everyones phone just fall apart back then or something? Do these people even own a Samsung, HTC, Motorola, etc, device?

All phones have their flaws but to say the aluminum is quality and plastic is crap, all you have to do is go look at the first two pages in the iPhone section and see all the complaints from actual iPhone users regarding the quality of the iPhones aluminum.

Because there are cheap crappy plastic and then there all good quality plastic.

I was making a distinction to avoid generalizing. Others here are just overreacting when they see the word 'crappy' follows by 'plastic'.

Hey aerok. Why don't you take your own advice.

Are you criticizing my preference of Aluminum over plastic when it comes to cellphones and portable devices?

To you, it's okay to say bad things about aluminum, but saying I prefer Aluminum over plastic is a big no no in your book.

Why don't you tell others on thread thread to stop crapping on Aluminum.
