i would suggest that vegan leather is no better, you're still portraying the look and feel of real leather.

why would a vegan (or anyone aligned to that cause) want to wear something that looked like an animal product even if it wasn't?

it's the same argument i put forwards when vegans buy vegan sausages etc that look and taste just like the real thing. why on earth would a vegan want to eat something that tasted like it was a real animal product.
You certainly have opinions.

Partner, not subsidiary. What Hermès, Belkin or Nike are selling on their own doesn’t change apple’s corporate carbon footprint, which is all what FineWoven is about. And I would argue that only a small margin of Hermès customers will buy directly from the Hermès website, many of them will probably buy from Apple directly
I think so too.

I suspect the whole mention of the word “partnership” is just marketing ploy to put the potential anti‑vegan backlash at ease by sending the message “we aren't doing this for animal welfare reasons… see, we still have a ‘partnership’ with that leather brand Jony Ive was so insistent upon us using. No need for protesting, carry on.”

But the truth is probably that Apple are less likely to be boycotted by leather‑lovers and more likely to be boycotted by animal‑lovers by making this decision, thus making them money… Plus the whole economical and environmental impact of marketing and popularising leather is unfavourable for their long‑term goals. Also, since the general public verdict on Apple watches themselves is generally positive, they no longer need to prove that their watch products are worth buying. It's proven, and they sell millions.

They don't need to swindle traditional leather‑wearing watch users anymore, so their “partnership” with Hermès seems more like a false gesture. Like I said, I believe it's just a brief marketing ploy to avoid any morality police backlash and protest.
