The Hermès watch face is really nice. The band is just so meh though. Looks more like equestrian equipment than a luxury item.

Edit: I followed the link to the Hermès site, and there are more attractive band options than the one featured here. But even if I had all the money in the world, I don't think I could justify buying one just because it's Hermès.

Apple is not demonizing leather. They take it out of their portfolio to reduce their CO2 footprint. Please don't argue that it doesn't. Apple is a trillion dollar company. They know what they are doing.
And I know what I saw: Mother Nature shaming Rando Guy over there for wearing a leather jacket. "Are they facing you out too?" Followed by an "Oh!" from the employee who almost got fired. Very funny indeed.

The most environmentally friendly approach to producing an Apple Watch (with, or without leather) is for Apple to stop producing consumer watches. Make a sundial or use sidereal time! Right?

This, but unironically. The Apple Watch is an astonishingly useless product. Waste of space, metal, silicon, and energy.

🤦🏻‍♂️ Woke nonsense. This mother nature presentation was the cringiest 💩 I've ever seen.
Move to a different company. Don’t tolerate wOkNeSsSss.

Apple also tried to normalize unhealthy levels of extreme obesity while talking about the necessity to lower one’s carbon footprint by reducing the Watch packaging by 25%. If you yourself weigh twice as much as a normal person of your height, the CO2 shipping costs of your watch become irrelevant.

Obesity and diversity counts, but the cost for Apple and the shareholders can be tremendous!

Very true, but I wonder – are there healthy levels of extreme obesity? 🤔

Outside of all the anger spewing back and forth over here: it poses an interesting question - now that Hermès are selling watch bands outside of there Apple Store, how will they maintain their watch face exclusivity? Seems like the Hermès watch faces may become available to everyone (a la Nike)

Double standards.

How is it better to kill a juvenile cow instead of a "baby" cow?
How is that less cruel?

Cows can reach an age of 15 - 20 years under natural circumstances, but are killed after 5 years because they are not "productive" anymore. By then they endured a lot of abuse. So one could argue killing a cow soon is the humane thing to do.

Don't get me wrong please, I am against all leather products and against animal abuse.
A 15 year old cow would have ground her teeth down to nothing and would not be doing very well at all. if she could actually become with calf, trying to bear and raise it would probably kill the mother, and if in an extensive grazing system with low oversight, then the calf as well. In my country a cow over ten years is probably a pet.

i agree with you though that this move is being portrayed as virtuous when it is in reality margin improving, and that Apple gets away with this claim just shows how the majority of people are these days completely removed from nature red in tooth and claw (if Americans have heard of Tennyson).

That's exactly what Hermes does. They make their own bands for the Apple Watch. IIRC there is no Apple branding on the Hermes watch bands. Apple puts the Hermes logo on the watch, but Hermes does not put the Apple logo on their bands.
I think the boxes for the bands have the Apple Watch | Hermes logo.

Yeah. What a beautiful “patina.” 😂

If Apple's colored leather really ages like this, then holy moly, good riddance. Reminds me of the "black" iPhone 5 that would turn silver when scratched.

I loved the black  leather cases that I've owned, and so far they have easily outlived the phones inside of them (software EOL).

I see you are living up to your name. 🤣
What the hell is that comment directed at Oberhorst supposed to mean!? It sounds like a pejorative anti-German stereotype and would be hypocritical behavior coming from a professed, socially-sensitive vegan. It also does not promote your anti-leather stance.

There are various German colloquial expressions around the name "Horst", eg

"Sich zum Horst machen" - looking stupid
"Den Horst geben" - acting like an idiot
"Vollhorst" - A person acting totally stupid

In German the prefix "Ober" means "to a high degree" or "very much",
so you could interpret the word "Oberhorst" as a term for a very stupid person.

I found the name "Oberhorst" for a person calling Apple's sustainability efforts "woke nonsense" very fitting.

Again with the not paying close attention thing...
Apple is stopping the use of leather to become carbon neutral by 2030. That's what they "feel strong" about.
They are not in the business to lobby for a vegan lifestyle, or convince you to care for the environment.
It's about _their_ business goals. So what their partners do does not play a big part in this.

Apple doesn't "feel" strong about it. They just do it to boost their ESG scores, to keep their big investors like Vanguard and BlackRock happy. If BlackRock and Vanguard pull their money from Apple, the stock price would plummet.

You did see me putting "feel strong" in quotes, did you? It was a quote from the comment I replied to.

Yes there are. Body fat is in itself not a health problem. It's the normal energy storage system of the body. But it is a symptom of a developing Insulin Resistance, which will lead to Type 2 Diabetes, Strokes, Blindness, Limp Amputation etc. For as long as the body can store away excess blood sugar in fat cells, the sugar can't damage other tissues in the body. It's when you can't get any fatter, that your health starts to deteriorate quickly. That's why some rather skinny people can already have a Type 2 Diabetes while some fat people are still pre-diabetic. Excess body weight should be viewed as an alarm signal. The real problems are yet to come, when you don't drastically change your lifestyle.
