My Hermès 44mm Feu Epsom Leather Single Tour band in Fauve has separated on the side. I brought it to my local Hermès store for service and repair. They took a look at the band and said they would have mail it to Paris for inspection. The turn around time given was roughly four months for the examination. My understanding is this does not include repair time. Also, it was unclear who is responsible for the repair.

Does anyone have any repair experience to share? Thank you in advance.

Sorry no, that’s the downside of purchasing from Hermes, it’s a far superior purchase experience but the return/exchange policy is nowhere as good as Apple’s. If they had it in stock Apple would have just replaced the band on the spot. Sorry you have to wait 4 months for your band.

Thank you for the reply, I concur. I was a bit surprised since I purchased my Hermès watch from Apple. The sales associate noted that Hermès edition comes with an extra year of warranty, and with Apple Care+ it would include a 3rd year. I was not made aware that the band is covered for 21 days and the warranty and repair of the band is strictly through Hermès. This is probably a due diligence issue on my part, but I must also note that the 2-year warranty is highlighted on Apple's website without much dialogue regarding the 21-day band warranty and limited support form Apple over the Hermès band.

Informational: Also, the Senior Apple Associate from their phone support appeared unaware of Hermès Edition warranty and repair steps, and later backtracked also to the 21-day band warranty.

In regards to Hermès service/repair, I was again surprised that for a watch band they would have to send it to Paris, and also the in-store leather specialist could not decide on the responsibility of the repair or perform the repair. Other Hermès product has been sent to Paris for repair, but those where high-value items or more complicated repairs. As a whole, Hermès sales and after-sales customer service have seemed to deteriorate in store.

Well this is because Paris is where the bands are made and that's where they will have all the necessary tools to ensure you are getting a repair of the finest quality. Chanel does this when you return something to be repaired as well. The upside to this is if a band gets damaged passed Apple's warranty window, Hermes can still fix it as it is under their name.

I'm so surprised that a single Apple Watch Hermes band would take FOUR MONTHS to inspect?

If the band is separating by itself, surely that's a defect and should be replaced in store (assuming they have stock).

Are you buying it for the band or the Watch?

If it’s the band you should buy it. If Series 5 takes your fancy you can keep the band and sell the Watch (but at a large loss... because you’re buying it at full price now less than a month from Series 5 release and Series 4 value is going to drop quickly in September).

If it’s not for the band then absolutely wait. You might like Hermes Series 5 better (new band options possibly...) and buy it at the price you were going to be paying for a Series 4 today, and if not, you will pick up a Series 4 at a much lower price because they’ll be cheaper after September. It’s win win.

There is a third option which is to buy the Hermes Series 4 now and don’t open it. On September 10 you’ll know if you want Series 5 or not. If you do, you can return the S4 to Hermes since you’re under 30 days and it’s unopened. If you don’t like S5, you keep the S4 and know you got it before it got discontinued.

ended up going with option 3 and just holding on to it to see what apple has to offer with series 5

from what i'm getting is that there might not even be a series 5, and with new casings like tianium, i just wonder where that is going to put the apple watch hermes. if stainless stell wont be the most premium casing anymore, are the hermes watches going to be titanium?

The Hermès Edition watches were stainless steel when Apple was offering the Watch Edition in ceramic, so I would expect Hermès to remain stainless (assuming titanium does not replace stainless).

that's true. we are just so in the dark with what apple is planning this fall. i hope the hermes watches remain stainless (and that there will still be hermes watches at all)

apple can be unpredictable with these things. from what i am aware hermes apple watches sell like hot cakes

Hot cakes? Maybe in some areas but I have seen a total of one in the wild in 3 years.

In response to an earlier post - do they clearance out the previous-gen Hermes watches when the new ones are released? Because I could swear Apple just removes them entirely...

They are removed entirely. There has never been any Hermes watches available from Apple in their clearance or refurbished section of their site.

revisiting this because i actually checked apple’s site and all hermes editions are “sold out” and on hermes’ site which they refresh everyday they always run out of stock of certain band combinations

this leads me to believe apple wouldnt give up the hermes edition and i really hope they dont

I would guess the Hermès bands themselves are the "pacing item" that determines availability. The watch case itself is a standard Stainless Steel with custom watch faces.

Remember that the bands are hand-sewn in France, which has 35-hour workweeks and strong labor protection.

That said, my Hermès watch band is still in great shape after 2 years. It was a one-off design. I didn’t care much for the two-tone design last year, but am hoping for some good designs next month.

Jony Ive and Angela Ahrendts’s departures have me worried, but I’ve got to think that Hermès has a vested interest in seeing the partnership continue.

+1 for being worried about there even being a series 5 Hermès. There was the article that Jony wanted the watch to be a fashion item (Hermès). And of course Angela was the former CEO of Burberry so of course she has industry contacts to help connect/maintain Apple’s partnership with Hermès. But they’re both gone now!

And now it sounds like there’s a chance of new case materials, leaving stainless steel at risk. Hermès seems to make all of their traditional watches out of steel.

As someone who was wanting a series 5 Hermès, I’m worried for the first year since it was released that it might not return.
