Don‘t get me wrong… I paid lots of money for watches in the past, that don‘t do much more than you would get done with a cheap Swatch (showing the time, that is ?). For some reason a bit of software doesn‘t ring that bell for me - although the SS case and the sapphire crystal do this quite nicely ?

I totally get this. While I do have an S6 Hermès and do love the watch faces (and the straps), I can‘t help but feel a little scammed because in the end it is exactly the same watch as the „regular“ Stainless Steel one. Software (watch faces) is such an artificial way to differentiate (i.e. upsell) as a) there is zero marginal cost for Apple and b) I feel they hold back on the watch faces for all „normal“ Watches as they must not be as elegant as the Hermès ones. It‘s almost infuriating to me, actually, that e.g. the full face Typograph not only has the numbers further from the edge than the (non-Circulaire) Hermès one, but shrinks inwards even more in always-on mode while the numbers on the Hermès one of course stay where they are, i.e. very close to the edge. This alone makes the Hermès watch face look so much better, and that‘s the only reason I can think of why the regular one gets „crippled“ like that. Well, the upsell worked on me (well that and the stunning Bambou Single Tour), but I don‘t think I can swallow this „scam“ again next time.

I bought my first AW in October and went for the silver Aluminium version as it was the cheapest and I wanted to know if I was going to use it fully before purchasing the SS version. I've been browsing here and kept coming back to read the threads and seeing the photos of the bands and getting an idea of how they look has been great.
I really liked the look of the double tour and bought a strap from an Etsy seller (the thin band is a nice contrast to the others and a lot of what I had seen so far just made the watches look bulky) It took a month to arrive and is actually very nice and comfortable, and then I decided that I would upgrade in September when a new watch comes out.
Meanwhile I've been browsing eBay and I found a genuine unused Hermes double tour in navy which I made an offer for (under £250) and got accepted, I convinced myself that I could just buy it now and wait patiently for 6 months. It arrived last week and it really is lovely, I tried it with my SE and thought, nah I'm not waiting and ordered a S6 which arrives next week.

I'm waiting for the Attelage double tour to come back in stock so I can compare, I fear this may be a slippery slope...

I thought they had released them and I missed it lol. I wonder if there even will be any spring bands this year...
They’re coming. They just have to wait for the iPads to be ready to be announced. We should have all adjusted expectations when the rumor hit that the new iPad screens wouldn’t be ready until April. Clearly the March 21st/27th dates from years past meant nothing except coinciding with iPads...

Agreed. On face value (excuse the pun) it’s a complete rip-off, I totally agree. I’d have a hard time giving up these faces now though, I can’t deny it... ?

2/3 straps will come out perhaps, but not in conjunction with the release of the ipads. maybe colors already presented as done in 2020.
very strange that Apple does not present anything in the days close to spring, it is usually always attentive to the dates because it is very ritual in this.
two possible straps 44mm
“Blanc Swift Leather Allover Print” and “Noir Swift Leather Allover Print”

Hopefully you’re right, but history seems to indicate that they like to direct attention to the store in a cluster of new products within the same week. I would love to see the return of scarf patterns but wouldn’t they have done those in the fall? The mode seems to be attelage/44mm double tour/rainbow colors.

I would like the return of lime and colvert or in any case let out with epsom leather

to then see some Hermes colors

You also get Hermès packaging and the case of the watch is engraved Hermès near the heart sensor.

but yes, it’s double the price for some nicer leather, different packaging, digital watch faces, extra warranty, and a limited sports band.

certainly not a good value but I enjoy it because it’s unique, rare, and an official partnership with Apple.

I’ve never encountered someone else with an Hermès watch in real life

Yeah, I like the faces too… but as you say, since the straps do nothing for me it‘s a bit over the top, paying just for the nice faces.
Forgot to say, just as an FYI, keep an eye on eBay. I picked up my S6 Hermès from a reseller. It was brand new/sealed and with just the sports band (the packaging had an empty leather band shaped shaped box to fill the extra space in the sleeve) and I got it for a little less than a regular stainless S6. That was 5 months after release though, not immediately at launch.

That sounds like a sweet deal, especially since I wouldn't keep the leather strap anyway :)
I guess I'll keep an eye out when I'm in the market for a new AW.

I don‘t really use the Hermes straps. I tried on a non Hermes Apple Watch after using the Hermes one and the difference for me personally was the fact that I couldn’t create a watch face like the Hermes circulaire with the regular Apple Watch. All the regular faces show very harsh black and white contrasts between the dial and the numbers. The Hermes watch faces have beautiful colours and, as mentioned above, they are spaced out better and don’t change in always on mode. But I am also of the opinion that it’s ridiculous to not give the regular watch faces the same options. I never would have thought that I would keep the Hermes one just for the watch faces but I did. I now store the straps in their case for reselling in (hopefully) September when the new watch comes out. Hope there will also be an Hermes model again.

Hi everyone, your beautiful pictures (and those damn exclusive watch faces) have pushed me to want to dip my toe in the Hermès world. A few questions for the experts here.
  • I managed to snag a new Fauve deployment band on eBay the other day for $400 (not the best deal I know, but still better than list price). Pictures, packaging all looked legit and seller seemed above board. What should I check for to make sure it’s a genuine band when I receive it next week? I have read about some fake Hermès bands reproducing all the markings on the underside of the band, which kind of scares me since I don’t have a genuine band to compare to. With Apple’s bands, I can easily spot a fake. But, I don’t really know what I am doing with Hermès.
  • Now I need to get a watch to go with it.
    • I’m set on a S6 at this point.
    • What I really want is to get the watch bundled with the Noir deployment and have a black and a brown strap so I can always match my watch with my shoes. But, I’m worried that a second band (especially at the deployment price point) may push the cost of this whole thing into “marital strife” territory. I also don’t really feel like I need two nice bands since I’m hardly leaving my house right now ?.
    • The other option I’m considering is buying a watch with a single tour band and then reselling the band (the Fauve deployment is the only other band aside from the Noir that I really want). Any advice on which color will be able to resell fairly close to retail? It seems like the Fauve single tour is like the black sport band of the Hermès world and sells for well under retail on eBay. But, I don’t know how other colors fare. Maybe go for something like Bambou and hold it until after new bands drop?
    • Anyone have experience with this eBay seller? Set is $100 under retail with offers and pictures look legit. But the description keeps referring to a space black watch (pictures are silver) and the seller has yet to respond to my question about the discrepancy (been about 24 hours). Really wary about picking up a fake through eBay, and I am always wary of sellers who are slow to respond to questions. But it might be worth the risk if I could get the price down another $100 or so. https://www.ebay.com/itm/284240846396
  • As a side question - any thoughts on how long the Noir deployment is likely to stick around? I definitely want one at some point.
Thanks in advance for any advice!

but sorry buy on the Hermes site (it is a color that is always there, but now only on the hermes site) if you have all these doubts. however it is original, everything is there and the seller puts his face on it.
if you want to buy on ebay, always look for Japanese sellers, they are the most reliable and beware of those who sell without a box.
then download the bandbreite app created by a forum user, very useful guide.
as stamps:
first line hermes paris
second row bracalet
third line made in france, without the X
first row series numbers 1 letter, 2 letters, 3 numbers
second row series numbers 2 letters centered with respect to row 1
mm strap that from at least 2020 on the new straps is no longer there and it is a shame
the bottom part is always fauve (brown)
the seams must be in the color of the strap, although here it should be noted that this is not always the case, for brown colors they are white
the buckle must have the stamps in evidence front and back

Usually Occam’s Razor has you covered. If the lugs have the MfW markings and they have the box, it’s unlikely they went to the trouble of faking those aspects. There’s a lot of legit sellers on eBay and Posh and Mercari. The Japanese sellers mark up by literally 200%. Feel free to post any you’re looking at here and we can suss it out.

As for buying an s6 and flipping the band, definitely wait until the new bands and there will be a very obvious choice as to what will be a hot re-sell. There might even be some bands you can only get with the watch, although spring might only bring the fall bundle bands as a la carte and not offer new bundle-only.

Sorry, maybe I didn’t do enough research, but apart from the straps and a few extra watch faces, there‘s nothing else that sets the Hermès apart from the „normal“ SS models, or is there?

Genuine question, really not trying to troll or something!

Wouldn’t take it as trolling, and I’m glad nobody responded like it would be.

Space black version is only available on Hermès now, but you are clarifying SS.
Those straps are the main reason for the high cost. I am a watch collector. I never had interest in the Hermès brand at all until that Space Black exclusivity. I bit the bullet, figured the return periods would give me the chance to check out this leather. My expectation was that it would be overrated. I was way wrong!
The extra cost for the leather is absolutely worth it. It is definitely higher quality than any other leather I’ve owned, it’s incredibly comfortable, and it could pass for dressy if you wanted to. I liked the Space black so much, I ended up picking up a SS with the Fauvre Barenia with deployment for a change of pace, and in the rotation and I have been so impressed with both.

You also get that extra year of warranty, extra year of AppleCare + if you purchase it, the exclusive straps of course. They do well to give you as much bang for the buck as they could. It’s not for everyone, but you can see the high reviews of that leather over and over throughout this thread.

No I was referring to stainless steel as case material in general, should have pointed that out better. In case of the case color itself I have learned that the Space Black version is also a Hermès exclusivity now.

Those straps are the main reason for the high cost. I am a watch collector.
Me too and I kind of figured that the straps must be the main reason, but the price difference IMHO doesn't make up for "just" the strap (even if it's an Hermès one), especially since in my case it really is an unnecessary gimmick.

It’s not for everyone, but you can see the high reviews of that leather over and over throughout this thread.
I own(ed) quite some really high end watches from for example JLC, over Panerai, Blancpain Girard-Perregaux, Glashütte Original or the occasional Rolex... but none of them I liked wearing on leather (apart from the PAMs, those belong on leather more or less, but where optically feasible I switched to the velcro or the rubber strap).

So whilst I understand that the Hermès straps are high end, for me they are no reason to get me a AW Hermès - but the watch faces might be... we'll see what the future holds ;-)

Thanks for taking the time for your detailed response :)
