No way. Especially not since they just introduced a new type of band (Jumping).
Agreed. Also Apple and Hermes just expanded their partnership into the AirTag line as well.
I’m more confident in the steel than the aluminum making the transition look wise. There’s something that really hits about the hard corner and how it creates a moment of less reflectivity on the phone and the leaked knock-offs.
At least when the watch is sitting there. It’s def going to be an adjustment seeing it on a wrist. I’m not opposed to change for change’s sake. That’s just capitalism.
And we know the new Hermes face with the extra pixels is gonna be amazing. I’ll wait a few years for a used piece, but if they do something like the Arceau typeface, it’ll be hard to wait.
Are there rumors of a new Hermes face? I hadn’t seen anything about that. Or are you saying the current Hermes face will be updated for the bigger display (which it surely will)?
Yeah just speculating. Maybe it would just be an updated version of current faces but the appearance of circulaire makes me think they’ll be aggressive and use that new screen real estate to do something ornate that wouldn’t fit on the s4.
Seems unlikely they wouldn’t dangle the carrot of an entirely new design to make us drool. Maybe a Jumping face they wouldn’t feel was suited to the old display!
A new Hermes face would be an interesting twist if it comes to pass. I’m only so-so on the boxy design as of right now. But the drip drip drip of bigger screen, thinner, new watch faces, is starting to wear down my resolve. I would prefer to hold on to my S6 for another year if I can muster the willpower…
The longer I go without seeing the new lamination in person, the better. The display contents are really gonna pop. XDR? PPI? OMG.
Though it would just be a minor Nike investment for now. Although I will miss the way the curved edge glass catches the light in funky ways.
Still no sign of Noir as a color option in beta 8. It’s looking like Hermes may be reserving this for the black watches only. 😕

And yes, as a proud series 3 user, I feel like I’m viscerally aware of just how important new faces are to push people to upgrade. It will be interesting to see just how stark the cut-off is for the old body style. For sure outside adding Artist and Unity, they don’t spend any time on the s3 faces. The editor is super buggy and the Messages complication has major alignment issues with the number.
At the same time, I wanna say the SE should get a little more love than the S3. But definitely no new types of faces outside simple/special ones as above.

Yes I don’t think it’s game over quite yet for the old body style. The SE will almost certainly stick around (and finally replace the S3 at the bottom of the lineup). And, depending on how much Apple jacks up the starting price on the S7 (you know it’s coming), I could see the S6 sticking around too, probably only in aluminum. I think these older models will continue to get love at least through the watchOS 8 versions. All bets are off after that.
It really is annoying how much new faces can push you upgrade though.
Yeah I don’t mean watchOS love, Apple is a model citizen there. I just feel like maintenance on the face experience will drop off to zero.
The series 5 is already showing its seams (editor bugs, weird sleep mode gradient all the time), that I don’t think exist on s6.
Not sure I agree that more than one AOD offering is possible. Feels like they anchor you in at the SE price and then upsell you to the AOD on the s7, no s6. Although yes the chip shortage (and maybe display-type upgrades) makes price hike seem like a lock.

S0 > S2 $20 USD increase
S2 > S3 $40 USD decrease
S3 > S4 $70 USD increase
S4 > S5 > S6 $0 USD increase
assuming that applies to all models, we haven’t seen a price increase since the S4, which brought us a larger device, similar to the upcoming S7.
my bet is we see a $50-$75 USD increase for the S7.

We haven’t heard about 5G for the watch in awhile. I assumed that was silly and a non-starter until it was rumored. What do we think?
We still got new features with 5 and 6 with no price increase. AOD, faster charging, 20% faster processor, compass, double storage space, gen 3 heart monitor, O2 monitor, U1, slightly brighter AOD, and Always-on altimeter.
My bet is we get a redesign, larger display, and maybe body temperature reading with S7.
Not sure about 5G. Highly unlikely this year. While 3G is being removed in the next year or two in many places, LTE still has probably at least a decade-12 years more of support. 5G is very power hungry so we likely won’t see it until a few more generations down the road.
Rumor said that the Apple Watch temperature function would allow woman to predict fertility. My understanding is that currently, woman insert the thermometer into their vagina as soon as they wake up and look for warmer days to know they’re fertile. (Not medical advice) Not sure if a watch could do that from a wrist temperature. Still though, body temperature reading can of course tell you if you’re sick or fighting an infection.
This is almost correct. Base model 42/44 aluminum GPS stayed the same from S0 to S2 @399$ (only the 38 mm model went from 349$ to 369$).
FWIW I would imagine the 45 alu GPS S7 to cost max. 449$ (30$ increase), not more.
I doubt they're going to add 5G to the Apple Watch anytime soon. 5G is a huge drain on the battery and the typical watch's use case is highly unlikely to benefit much from the difference between LTE -> 5G.
If you’ll let me play bored devil’s advocate though, what if it gets jammed in through some combination of:
1) low-band 5G only that has better reach than 4G, and on the watch speed is less important than coverage
2) Verizon (et al) marketing agreement [this above all]
3) more efficient chips/engineering boast
4) something on the tin in a year with no health stuff to trumpet
This is on macrumors this morning:
- There's a new Hermes watch face that features numbers that change hour by hour and new Nike watch face with numbers that change based on a person's motion.
If that “motion” means just like fitness progress and not some super cool parallax feature I’ll be so mad.
Totally agree with you. If they do add 5G it's likely purely just marketing because it's the shiny new thing in tech right now.
I leaning towards something similar to the Black Unity watch face where the changes due to motion are subtle.
Any speculation or wish list of what kind of leather and colour Hermès S7 will have?

And where's the next scarf / pattern print (eg. Eperon d'Or or the unicorn Equateur Tatouage - The latter I'm sure I'll never find or get one...)?

I'm really, really hoping for an orange jumping single tour. I know Hermès is known for its leather but I live a pretty active lifestyle so the nylon (and washable!) jumping single tour would be the best band for me. I could use the orange sport band but it's just a regular sports band with special engraving on it.
