@PieTunes wow i'm pretty popped, why deprive yourself of a luxury watch whose beauty is wearing it to put on an apple watch? we are 10 to zero always for the luxury watch. at this point the apole watch on the right and the luxury watch on the left.
I’m just not that much of a watch guy. At the time I was a trainer for the DoD and needed some formal attire and accoutrement. The then released Rolex Kermit helped round out my wardrobe with its classic design. Surely I appreciated it, but I never was the watch collector type. And I don’t find wearing a second watch on my other wrist to be all that comfortable to me. I have a variety of Hermès bracelets I like to stack instead, combinations that include the kelly in steel, goliath code, tournis tres, etc. and sometimes throwing a Yurman or Ferragamo into the mix.

I wouldn’t call it depriving myself if the thing in question just isn’t my “thing.” :) To each their own, indeed.

While on the topic of luxury watches, my partner just bought me the Hermès H08 and it’s arriving tomorrow!

Not sure what to do with this and the Apple Watch… maybe one on each wrist? 🤣
with money you buy more, for manufacturing value.
apple also tried to make expensive watches the first gold apple watch, but they saw that it had no market and gave up. unhappy phrase by Jony Ive, „Switzerland is f *** ed“ he was kicked out of the company because apple watch has no market compared to Swiss high-class watches, it may have ruined the swatch market and the like but who buys Rolex continue to buy Rolex as an investment.

The commentariat consensus is that the solid gold Apple Watch was indeed a Jony Ive vanity project. No-one inside Apple ever thought they would sell a lot of those. Maybe the amount of attention the solid gold models got helped to spread the word there‘s a brand new product line from Cupertino.

Well, first of all he said it half-jokingly. Ive is a known aficionado of mechanical watches. But in hindsight the fact that Apple Watch has been the best selling watch on the planet for several years now, eclipsing the whole swiss watch industry in revenue, cannot be denied.

he was kicked out of the company because apple watch has no market compared to Swiss high-class watches,
Yeah, lol. Do you really believe this was the reason Jony left? Tim Cook tried all he could to keep Ive in the company, he certainly was not „kicked out“.

it may have ruined the swatch market and the like but who buys Rolex continue to buy Rolex as an investment.
Yeah, as I said. The rich need to do something with their money. But only a few select manufacturers / models actually gain value, right? So most mechanicals aren‘t really a good „investment“, either.

just for this sentence alone you don't have the slightest idea of the market and the value of a watch.
I'm sorry I go around "adios"

To quote Jony Ive, „Switzerland is f***ed“. The more functions Apple Watch gets, especially in the health area, the harder it will be to justify wearing a „dumb“ watch. And not many folks would go for the weird two-wrists-two-watches look.

On the other hand, I guess the rich keep getting richer, so if they have to find a way to spend all that cash they might as well collect a bunch of jewellery watches and wear them once in a while. So maybe the luxury makers will be fine.

One last thought: beauty is in the eye of the beholder. While I can appreciate the craftsmanship of mechanical watches, in this day and age they mainly look old and broken to me.
I think Switzerland will be fine. I don’t think Apple Watches compare to a aesthetically to wrist watch. If they can figure that out then maybe.
That is what keeps me in my Apple Watch, it’s a tool while a wrist watch is an accessory.

I think if I lived in a colder climate and dressed for business or whatever (long sleeves) I would go for the watch on each wrist like the Hodinkee guy. Also I heard on a podcast about some guy who has all his money stored in watches that he’s constantly flipping.

I don’t think that Rolex, Omega, Patek or Audemars could feel f****d by AW 😅 luxury mechanical watches are totally different and have a totally different market than a 1k AW. A full gold Rolex Daytona, as an example, isn’t something that could be compared with an AW 😜
And an AW is for sure uglier than a luxury mechanical watch 😉

Switzerland is bigger than those brands, though.

True.

For sure … in your eyes. Which is fair enough. To me most of them look ostentatious and preposterous.

I guess the real question is among the people who are teens and college-aged now, who seem to be overwhelmingly iPhone lovers in these polls you see from time to time, if they grow up feeling a smartwatch is also an aspirational must-have and they buy into the “wear it everyday” for texts and health…when they come into their first pile of disposable income, are they converting to mechanical watch collectors?

Forgive my ignorance, but does anyone know the best way to clean the nylon jumping band? The outer part is still pristine and shiny but summer months have contributed to noticeable thin areas of caked in sweat/grime on the inner part of it. I want to clean it up without harming, discoloring, fraying, etc. the material. I'm just concerned any kind of scrubbing could push the crap deeper into the weave or whatever. Any tips or suggestions are appreciated, thanks!

I also would avoid scrubbing. Just let it dry completely, that way that stuff "crumbles away" easily.
Another idea from "how to remove chewing gum from your T-shirt". Put it in the freezer for a couple of hours, I guess then it will crumble even more just by moving the band.

After a few months this nylon still looks and feels brand new. Not as stiff as it was brand new, but that is a good thing. I'm getting really excited to see what the Fall line brings and what a Series 7 Hermes watch looks like! I hope it isn't dropped from the Apple lineup like the Ceramic model was.

Just saw this band in the Hermès store in Zurich. On my wish list. Bought the Tournis Tressé etain leather and silver clasp bracelet. The clasp is magnetic. Seems Apple has inspired Hermès:) https://www.hermes.com/ch/de/product/armband-tournis-tresse-H068406FP76T4/

I have the tournis tresse as well, the dark red/rouge color and am tempted to get the orange for some added variety. I love the design of the clasp as my last name begins with H so in a roundabout way several of their products already come "pre-monogrammed" :D. One point though, the end just sockets into the other and is one of those old school banana plug things, similar to the Goliath code, I don't think it's magnetic at all.
