I'm very perplexed on this release. It's quite an incremental release. But I love the faster charging and smaller bezel size.
Maybe this is why Apple wants people back in the office. Both the iPhone and Watch releases were very incremental updates. The only “major” update was the iPad mini.

It’s more of an S year. These are never exciting years (see S5).

This year people are more disappointed because:

1. the rumors were widely off (satellite in an iPhone LOL) and major redesign on the Apple Watch with sharp edges(is that even comfortable?)

2. Major brain drain at Apple. It’s estimated over 100 engineers have left apple’s ARM team that designs the M1/A15 for a newly created company. It’s currently estimated that the A14 architecture is being used on the smaller A15 package but that’s it in terms of changes. Could be the same reason why we get the S6 processor AGAIN.

Many of Apple’s hardware team is still required to go to the office, if not part time. While I’m sure WFH has had some impact, if your company hasn’t adjusted after 16 months, you have many other major issues at your company. I don’t believe that to be the case at Apple.

I work for another large tech company and while our return to office has been delayed indefinitely, we are seeing 20,000 of the 80,000 regional employees going into the office at least once a month because some of the devices and workflows cannot be done from home.

These devices weren’t designed and tested from a tiny Cupertino apartment.

Same battery life as the 6 definitely has me sticking with the 6. A slimmer profile doesn't do it for me. Not switching to a graphite hermes is also a disappointment for me personally.

Thank you Apple, my money will go towards all them fancy looking new bands!
I guess they wanna push the bands by giving us the new faces for our old watches, and then figure we will upgrade anyway eventually because we’re just those kind of people. Definitely getting Biscuit for Chanukah now.

So @SisterBlue22 are you going to play the secondhand market for an s5/s6 now that it’s not the drastic redesign or gonna treat yoself to the new display goodness? Friendly reminder if you do end up with any old Hermes, you can get the two Hermes sport bands from Apple for $49 plus shipping each.

Where are you guys finding the new faces? Did the update this morning and I haven’t gotten them

Install the public beta profile on phone then watch. RC1 feels great. My first time on watchOS 8. Face Editor is still kinda fubar on my s4 but also better? I don’t know.

How do I do that? I just did the regular update? Or do I wait a bit? Thanks.
The new software comes out the 20th publicly. There’s a small chance the current beta/Release Candidate won’t be the same one they drop that day, but it seems unlikely. The caveat with putting beta software on your watch is you can‘t roll it back because civilians can’t get the usb plug for that. And if your device bricks, you have to send it to Apple to fix.

But watchOS 8 isn’t too drastic an update, I think you’ll be fine. Go to beta.Apple.com to enroll your devices.

My plan is to buy an s7 Hermes brand new in the black finish. I'll sell my s6 SG Nike Alum to my work bestie (he's currently rocking my old s4 and looking forward to the upgrade), and I'll keep my s5 ceramic and s5 silver SS. That way, I'll have a shiny silver, a shiny black, and a white ceramic, and all my boxes will be checked. :D

There’s really no justification for having less than three watches.

Those new faces look great - made me buy one of the new(ish) Jumping Tour bands. Blue and orange of course...I'm a sucker for Hermes Orange.

Right? I was trying to figure out if I needed 4, but I know the s6 will have a good home on my friend's wrist.
I think if you’re sticking with one size, you only need three. Obviously I would never own SBTi and SGA/MidA in the same size, nor GSS and SSS. I wonder about Ceramic and StarA in the same size…

New here: I wanted to treat myself to an Hermès edition but I find the S7 to be lacking in many ways and wonder if I should just wait to see what the S8 has to offer. Are the bands, though, “seasonal” (meaning if I see one now might it not be for sale in later seasons) and are the Hermès watch faces unique to each model or are all available to every Hermès watch owner regardless of what version Hermès Edition they own? Thanks!

Welcome! One other option you might want to consider is picking up a used S5 or S6 for cheaper. Aside from not having the bigger screen, the user experience is pretty much the same. The bands are seasonal (with the exception of Fauve for the silver watch and Noir for the black). If you see a band you like, grab it. Watch faces are available across all models. My S6 is getting the new Circuit H face you are seeing pictures here. That and the lack of much new on the S7 aside from the big screen is enough to keep me on the S6 for another year.

Oh crap do I need to buy 2 more watches!?
