It looks like fauve is only sticking around as a deployant option and im guessing they chose barenia for the gourmette for functional reasons…it’s the waterproof horse saddle one and maybe swift just isn’t up to the task at all with all those twists and what have you. The cuff never expanded beyond barenia but the double cuff did.

I’m sad the very short-lived days of Apple promoting the Hermes at all are over, would have loved to see a luxe life influencer unbox that gourm‘y today! But I guess the line is ”if you know you know” situation and maybe they’re discreet/ashamed of the price points in the larger story of the watch.
No, Fauve Barenia is available in Single Tour, Double Tour, Double Tour Attelage, Single Tour Attelage, Gourmette, and Deployant. Only the latter 2 are prominently displayed on the website, but it's a "color option" for just about every other band.

Apple Watch is a mature product now, so they don't see the need to actively promote any of the partnerships, such as Nike and Hermes. If they were concerned about pricing, they wouldn't release a band that costs more than the Titanium Watch nor would they maintain the $211 "watch face" premium of the Apple Watch Hermès vs. buying the stainless steel and Hermès bands separately.

I mean... you're not wrong. I can count in the single digits the Edition and Hermes models I've seen in the wild, including my own. Even the SS and Cellular Alu models I rarely see. I'd bet if Apple disclosed sales by model number something north of 90% would be S3 + SE + cheapest new version.

Even when I bought my original SS watch back in June 2015 I didn't see another non-Sport model for months...
Living in Los Angeles I see Hermes models all the time.

Show me an s7 digital display case (either the apple landing page or the Hermes picker) with the fauve barenia or a fauve barenia non-deployant blessed with the 41/45mm new lug shape/embroidery and I would agree. Right now the only non-dep’ you can actually order from Apple is a 44mm fauve single tour and I assume that’s final stock.

Also the Hermes site, which is known for selling out of season bands, isn’t selling any fauve non-dep’. In fact, they seem to not be selling any 40/44mm bands, maybe just for the sake of clarity.

*pure speculation, no inside sources 😉

Could be based on marketing to Hermes customers that presumes that they’re not that interested in tech specs, that having “DLC” takes away from the imagery they’re trying to create. Most people have to read up on DLC to even know what it is and how good it is.
Luxury watches state those details all the time. I reached out to Hermes directly and I was only told it has a space black coating. They didn’t confirm that it was dlc.

Even the “in-stock” Apple Watch Hermes are showing December deliveries now. I’m guessing it’s the global supply chain issue, with ships backed up at ports. I can pick up a Fauve Barenia band tomorrow at Michigan Avenue if I wanted to.

To be fair, the only “luxury” element of Apple Watch Hermes is the band itself. Otherwise it is just the regular stainless steel model with “Hermes” engraved on the back and a few more watch faces downloaded.

Is there any obvious way to tell PVD vs. DLC once we receive the actual watches? My guess is that the rep just read the official specs provided by Apple. Apple’s marketing around the Watch has been a bit unusual this year. They didn’t announce a release date until 3 weeks after the announcement, and kept offering the Series 6 until the day before pre-orders started. It’s entirely possible they switched to a cheaper process, but OTOH they switched the aluminum models to a ceramic back this year. There were rumors of “production issues” so maybe they switched for operational, rather than financial reasons.

We need a SS Gold Hermes Watch. Not asking for too much!
I’d prefer a titanium option. I’ve often wondered why Apple hasn’t released one at a $100 premium to the normal Apple Watch Hermes. I’m guessing about $90 of the extra selling price would go right to Apple’s bottom line.

I think DLC is a type of PVD and wouldn’t it cost them more money to research and perfect a new process versus the one they’ve been doing since 2015?

The aluminum watches have have sapphire/ceramic backs since series 4.

There’s definitely an aspect to the watch specs dissemination that Apple has just lost a grip on because the line has such breadth. Feels like we get a lot of answers from the journos they give the tech deep dives to, like Matthew Panzarino, or just any of them that ask specific questions and put the answer in a review.

Hopefully when the tech specs for s7 go live in the apple kb (Friday?) we will get an unabridged version of the specs lol.

I’m guessing that Jony Ive was responsible lot of the flair from the earlier releases. He had connections in the luxury watch industry and is a watch collector himself. Apparently the $10,000-$17,000 gold watches were his idea. Although he never appeared live at product launches, he did always make those melodramatic videos where he made the production of steel (which has been around for centuries) sound like a major technological advance.

With Apple Watch Hermes, I wouldn’t be surprised if Angela Ahrendts was involved in the negotiations, given her Burberry connections. But the fact that Hermes is continuing to introduce new watch bands 6 years after the initial release suggests that its position is safe in Apple’s lineup.

Interesting. I’ve never owned the aluminum version, but the ABlogToWatch review mentioned that the aluminum watch “finally” has a ceramic back, so I thought it was new. I bought the original Stainless Steel with the ”Classic” rubbery leather band at launch date, but switched to the Hermes a few months later when they released it (at a very limited number of Apple and Hermes stores where they took you in for individual “fittings” 1 or 2 at a time ). Other than Space Black for Series 5 and now Series 7, I’ve always had the silver stainless steel model.

I decided to treat myself and ordered a Hermes series 7 with the Fauve deployment band. Then, I ordered the Circuit Rouge H/Noir band. Now, I just ordered a noir deployment band.

I’m thinking I might have a problem. No one needs three expensive Watch bands, do they?

I also already own the SB Apple Link Bracelet. My band collection will be worth well over $2000. For Watch bands.

Please tell me I’m not crazy? 😂

Hi guys. Is the Hermes selection changing over the year or is it the same until the next series comes around?
They do additional release of colors. I know someone had mentioned it for last year so I saw the hot pink come out and was tempted to get it but by then I knew also the seven was around the corner.

Please tell me I’m not crazy? 😂
If they do they wandered in here by accident 😂😂😂

I went through a bvla phase and my ears are all tricked out with tiny pieces of pretty that costs an arm and leg. I mean I think on one ear alone it’s $1k easily and same for the other if not $2k… I forget the prices but I also have some not in rotation (and a pupil hall piece).

as long as you love it, enjoy the heck out of it and can afford it, no, not crazy.

Nope, you're crazy. Those are three outstanding bands. Like Wow! You'll love deployment buckles--so much easier on and off. And the Circuit Rouge H is just killer! Welcome to this crazy pursuit...

I imagine it became cost-effective to standardize the backs even if it added raw material cost to previously ceramic-free models.

Plus they had that issue with wrist lotion catching and popping off the sensors when they were separate from the aluminum/steel/ceramic assembly or just less bonded.

I probably wouldn’t think about the aluminum’s new booty being ceramic were it not for those watches popping up when I do a check on the ceramic watch market every blue moon.

Totally. That’s why I’m nostalgic for that weird Hermes video spot and just the whole fashion pose. If we ever get the inside dish, I’m guessing it was not to the taste of non-Jony execs and “embarrassing” as John Gruber frames the gold-gold S0.

But part of me still thinks there was value to the goofy Karl Lagerfeld/Beyoncé/Drake luxury pose just to get our little wrist computer launched, and it wasn’t just a total fail before the sensible pivot to “fitness and notifs.”

My friend who got hired to corporate at this exact juncture received the gold watch and I’m still holding out for the day when I’ll get to play with and photograph it.

So did anyone here order the gourmette double tour? I feel like that’s the big band this season but can’t recall anyone ordering it.

Ordered launch for Oct 15 delivery. Got confirmation email saying delivers Oct 15. Just looked at order status for the 100th time and now it says arrives Oct 27-29. WTF?!?! SBSS 45 Noir Bleu circuit. Everything was fine on Tuesday. I’m in Canada. Is this a glitch. I was too excited. Am I crazy but if it got delayed wouldn’t apple have sent an email saying your order was delayed 2 weeks. It was preparing to ship yesterday and now went back to processing.
