I bought my first Hermes with the Barenia leather in Deployment Buckle last month, it is so nice wearing it.
It's still stiff and tough to pull through the leather rings. Should I use a conditioner?

Below is the Pins & Buckle Barenia leather band in 44mm. It smells nice, not exactly like the Hermes Barenia.
The markings are not as precise, and it's noticeably thicker. The feel is not as velvety as Hermes, but under $100 with shipping from Australia. Takes about a month.

Some people, as a matter of course, hit their leather with conditioner even if it darkens it like with Barenia. I did it kinda cluelessly with my Fauve Rallye and like how it looks, nice and even ”flooded” patina in the window. Brand new Fauve Barenia does kinda look undercooked and uncanny haha.

I wouldn’t do it just to get to be less friction-y. What’s the weather where you’re at?

It finally got cold (“cold”) in SoCal the other day all my bands hit different now haha.

Oh, I'm in NYC, so fairly dry. At home, we'd usually 35 to 45% humidity all day/night.
Maybe i should take walks with it more.

Yeah that’s what i figured, that winter dryness. And like you were saying upthread, those new Hermes bands make you feel like you’re gonna ruin them because they’re so damn supple. I try to not abuse the tip of the tongue too much when struggling to strap them up. I’ve gotten enough used bands to know that’s the first part of the leather to go.

While I’m a freak about minimizing wear, just having it on and strapped/bent/curuved for awhile should help break it in. The tiniest bit of conditioner on a Swift band shouldn’t show up visually…

The Swift bands are even more supple to the touch. Picked up the orange and gold yesterday. Would have bought the H Diagonal in gold, but the artisan says drilling extra holes will threaten that specific band's integrity. I think I will convince her next time to do it, as I don't see wearing it that long. lol.

Somehow i take this as a protest against the New Yorkers-only band release lmao
@athousandbands While I don’t care for the special edition band, I like that those in NYC have the option. I am from NYC. On another note @athousandbands, I sometimes find the leather single tour bands hard to get through the buckle at the band’s tip. Any suggestion? My hand coordination does not help.

It’s def the price to pay for the leather being so supple and nice…like I was saying upthread a little leather conditioner on Swift is probably fine, especially if you only apply it to the side of the band where it catches so hard on the belt (the part you stick the tongue through).

I like coconut oil, wouldn’t bother with paying for the stuff one buys for a baseball mitt.

@athousandbands

Should I consider a deployment band? Are they difficult to get on sand off? Are there any good Stainless Steel bands for the Hermes Watch ?

One month in, it's still tough to get on and off my 45mm Fauve single tour deployment buckle. Pushing the Barenia leather end back through both rings to get off the watch still requires effort and a little time.

The deployment is super easy to get off. Similar mechanism to the Apple stainless link bracelet which is by far the best stainless option for the Hermes in either space black or silver (the latter is super backordered a few weeks).

The release mechanism might still be tough for you @jaybar but you only need to strap and tongue the deployant Hermes the first day you have it.

You pinch two buttons on either side of the buckle to release
