I have seen a youtube unboxing of one with an orange leather strap from the factory. On the online store that is never an option. Do anyone know if that is possible in the Hermes stores? I really want the orange leather strap over the brown one but I would rather having to buy it separately...

For Series 2 it was an available combination, for Series 3 it isn‘t.

What is everyone using to clean the Hermes bands with? I’ve seen glycerin saddle oil, and a damp cloth on various websites. Tried a damp cloth, wiped with a little vigor to take out a small speck/stain and it ended up turning the entire section that I wiped a darker brown that is not going away.
Any suggestions? I asked a leather store employee today and their only suggestion was to use the same method on the rest of the band to even out the discoloration. I’ve had this band for only 16 days

I would agree with the leather store employee that darkening the rest of the band to match is your only option at this point. Fauve barenia will darken considerably with everyday use even if you are careful. That is just the nature of untreated leather and patina.

Does anyone else have a pic of their fauve Barenia after months of use?
Does the Apple saddle brown classic buckle not darken this way?

Nope.....at least it will take much longer to get the same ‘effect’. IMO the Bareneia leather is much more 'open' and therefore more vulnerable to external influences like dirt, grease, water etc. Probably also UV.

The Apple Classic Band feels and behaves more like plastic, at least if seems to unnatural in many ways. It does not smell like leather and it really takes some time to get in supple. But for that reason it is also the perfect companion to Hermès owners who do not like to wear the Barenia every day. Also mind you, leather needs rest - as your leather shoes - so never ever wear it day after day.

Last but not least: don’t mess around with any Hermès band and please ask Hermès what to do.

I made a photo for you: from the left to the right.

1) Hermès Fauve Barenia (not much use)

2) Hermès Fauve Barenia with deployment buckle (unused)

3) Apple Classic Buckle (unused)

4) Apple Classic Buckle (pimped and used)

5) Apple Classic Buckle (pimped and unused)

The Hermès Fauve Barenia is clearly darkened, probably by UV and vinger grease.

The pimped and used Apple classic buckle is gorgeous! Almost makes me wanna buy one and pimp it like you have... ALMOST...Will stick with the Hermés Fauve Barenia for now and see how long it'd take for the patina to develop!

Do you have a "used" Fauve Barenia for comparison? I've only had mine for a month...

I wear that and the Indigo Swift alternately, 3-4 days each before I swap it over - Is that too often?

Do you own an Apple Classic Buckle of the latest (4th) generation with the square buckle? I find those are significantly softer than previous generations.

The 'used' Fauve Baernia is at the left and I am to say what I good or bad. IMO good quality leather needs rest to dry etc.

I have read some topics on people getting shocked when their Fauve Barenia got stain. etc. This particular band is awesome if not epic, but should be taken care of like a baby. My advise is always to use Classic Buckle (Saddle Brown) for normal days and use the Fauve for special occasions. Or get some genuine Classic Buckles (black, red, midnight blue, marine blue etc) from eBay to have more change :)

Go to post #913 in this thread. I posted a pic of a heavily used barenia double tour band on 10/12.

Surely these bands are there to be used? Especially considering the life expectancy of the watch and the potential for a form change next generation.

I won’t be nannying mine as I don’t my mulberry wallet etc.

My deployment buckle had some very noticeable darkening on the sides from sweat due to a rather humid summer and travelling on the underground. To even the whole thing up I used the babywipe method and it’s a gorgeous even colour now.

Yesterday I discovered that in fact one can not detach a band from te Hermès deployment buckle themselves.

Really a terrible design flaw as I am used the change bands on IWC deployment buckles myself.

So, if you need - for any reason - a new Barenia band replacement, you have to buy a complete set consisting of both band and deployment buckle.

That is what really annoys me; it sucks !

I ended up returning the stained fauve baernia even though it was at 16 days after purchase they did take it back. The Apple employee suggested to try the classic buckle saddle brown which I did for 2 days.
I’m glad that I did not originally buy the CB as After having the Hermes leather, the leather used by Apple in their CB is visibly inferior and looks and feels very much plastic like.
I took back the CB and repurchased a Hermes fauve.
I guess I will just have to baby it as suggested to keep it from becoming stained. I don’t mind the patina as I realize this is natural with good leather.
I will be calling Hermes tomorrow in Boston to ask them if there is any type of protectant they will advise with.
I know they probably won’t suggest just spraying it with normal leather water repellant but they may have some idea.
I can’t imagine women with bags made from this leather aren’t using some type of protectant. Surely a purse or bag made from this leather would become much more dirty and stained than a Watch band, as they are constantly being set on counters and such.

You could ask them in Boston, but please the eBarenia leather is a very sensitive one. Don't use it while gardening, sporting etc if you like to keep it in good shape. Obtaining patina is a natural process and gives it even a better look :)

I know it’s a little bit naughty, but I’ve just ordered the AW Hermès Ébène Barenia with Deployment Buckle. I know it won’t last forever like a Rolex, but it’s something I’ll wear and enjoy every day for at least two years, so it’s only costing a few pounds a day

I’m a little nervous about how well it will fit and how comfortable it will be, but it looks so beautiful (well, in the Apple renders on the website!)

Arrives Tuesday . . .

Oh, and looking forward to having Series 3 with GPS!

PS Currently have a S2 SS Space Black with black sports strap.

Excellent choice also the deployment buckle. Love to know how the ébène wears (i have the fauve but still would love to have a black barenia strap with white/beige stichting)

I’ve had the Ebene deployment buckle since day 1. It wears incredibly well especially compared to the Fauve Barenia (if you are worried about that). It’s gotten slightly darker, but looks good as day 1.

I am used to IWC deployment buckles so this Hermès one is very very silly at one point: you can not just detach and attach a new band....you have to buy a complete set: deployment buckle and band
