It’s definitely not as lacquered as patent leather. While it is painted like Apple’s leather offerings since the iPhone 12, it feels better, looks nicer, and lasts much longer. Apple’s paint was cheap and glossy in comparison whereas the texture of the swift leather comes through beautifully.

Further, Hermès offers repairs so when it does wear it can be repainted. I agree that Apple was correct to drop their leather but the handcrafted Hermès leather isn’t anywhere close to the landfill fodder Apple was mass producing.
One hopes MacRumors never finds a reason to disable the ignore button the way Apple is pretending to be green and pretending to not sell leather 😬

Totally agree with your counterpoints. Definitely high quality for what it is; I just don’t like what it is.

Question to everyone buying the Hermes Watch every year, what is holding you back from using this money to buy one fancy watch (eg. Rolex, Omega etc.) which will hold its value + will hold up forever, not like an Apple Watch which you aren't going to use longer than ~5years max. ?
Because a Rolex doesn’t integrate into my iPhone.

BECAUSE ONE OF THEM IS FUNCTIONALLY MINIMAL JEWELLERY AND THE OTHER ONE IS AN ADVANCED MICROCOMPUTER ON YOUR WRIST WITH A MYRIAD OF FUNCTIONS, SOME OF THEM EVEN POTENTIONALLY LIFE-SAVING.

(Sorry for screaming but it is really annoying that this useless apples-to-oranges „comparison“ still pops up regularly, even over 8 years after the first Apple Watch was released.

(Also, only very few mechanical watches actually hold or even appreciate in value; 99,9% don‘t. And all of them will only „hold up forever“ if they are regularly serviced - which isn‘t cheap, either.)

(Disclaimer: I do own a few mechanicals myself. If I calulate $/€ per hour worn, my Apple Watches come out as way cheaper.)
I think you misunderstood my intention of my question. I’m far from anti-Apple or anti-smartwatch, matter of fact I just recently bought the SSS9 and I’m buying a Hermes band really soon so we’re on the same boat. I just wanted to see the opinion in this forum when it comes to this luxury purchase as most people just buy the base model so I can’t really ask this question in the „normal“ Apple Watch thread as the users there aren’t the ones spending over a grand a year for a smartwatch 🤗

Ok, gotcha. 😊 Well I suppose the „value proposition“ of Hermès vs regular Watch is all about the straps and faces. In my experience they do elevate the experience considerably, but how much that is worth to you (or how little you care about the difference because it‘s all chump change for you) is very much up to the individual buyer. Me personally, I will have to face that question (again) next year with the (presumable) re-design of the regular Series. Right now I‘m squarely in camp Ultra.

But you could ask the same question about mechanicals. Above a certain $ threshold, you pay for minimal differences at best (and name recognition / prestige the most). Why get a 8.000 $ (or 80.000 $) mechanical when a 2.000 $ mechanical will look 99% as nice (at least to the naked eye; and your eye is naked 99,99% of the time)?

In the end, wrist time is a limited ressource. If you decide that the functionality of the Apple Watch is so important to you that you‘ll wear it as your daily driver either way, why not get the best-looking, most luxurious one?

I switched from Rolex being my daily watch to a Hermes Apple Watch for the versatility of having the optional Hermes unique faces and the soft supple leather of the Hermes bands. For over 25 years I would buy and sell my Rolex’s about every 2-3 years because I would get bored with their look. With the Apple Watch I can change up the bands and faces and that for me makes wearing it feel as more of a luxury item. When I first contemplated the Apple Watch I said if I am going to give up wearing a Rolex, then it has to be for the best Apple Watch out there. I worked hard throughout my career to be able to buy and sell my Rolex’s as I please when the mood strikes me. I don’t wear other jewelry and have had an affinity for luxury watches for 30+ years. I don’t wear all the Hermes leather bands I have (and I have a lot of them) on the daily but I do enjoy the unique Hermes watch faces and now as you all know I really am enjoying my Kilim bands that I am wearing on the daily.

My first Hermes Apple Watch Series 3 was SS and hated the micro scratches on it and got tired of polishing it with my cape cod cloths so I went SBSS and have on every Series since then.
I love the way SS gets micro scratches. Such a beautiful patina and when light hits it it’s even better IMO, but the SBSS is a classic look too.

Hi All, thought I’d check in here for some opinions/advice on a recent purchase from the Hermes website. Ordered a Fauve Barenia single tour 45mm this week (was quite surprised to see it so didn’t hesitate to order it). Does this look like it’s not brand new to anyone else?

Not even remotely brand new! Best of luck dealing with customer service, I’ve heard they’re a bit off-putting. Feels like you got a display model?

But do they even let you try them on? Maybe it’s from the Apple Store floor liquidation somehow. Seems wrong all the way down

Yeah, that’s lightly used. Has been put on 1-2 times at least

I read it’s all part of their plan. Treat you like 💩 because the psychology behind it caused people to want to come back as if they’ve got something to prove?

“If you want to return this gently used item that was sold as new, you can. But that makes you poor because rich people would waste more money spending time with returns than just eating the cost. Are you sure you still wish to proceed and appear as a poors?”

Horrible IMO. Don’t sell used crap as new. People on sleyBay have more integrity than that.

Thanks everyone. I tried engaging in a chat on the website but was told I need to email customer service as they can't receive photos in the chat. Fingers crossed they will offer to exchange it.

It does seem slightly patina'd too, a little around the edges and more so where it appears like the loop may have rested near the first hole. There's a slight scratch on the top of the buckle half too if you look closely. The box also has a few scuffs as well though I'm not as bothered by that except that it confirms it was used. (Sigh)

Since you purchased from Hermès, did it come with a piece of plastic on the buckle?

Just dispute it. You’ll win and keep the band lol. That’s what I did with an Apple Watch a few years ago.

I followed their policy to a T. They denied t. I disputed it and of course won!
