I agree. The thinness of the S10 is very welcome. I could immediately feel a difference between the s9 and s10.

I hope they do something similar with the Ultra 3 this year. The glass on the Ultra is heavy and sit pretty far above the wrist. Making it thinner would be a great change.

Yeah, me too. After wearing the 9,7 mm S10 it would be hard to go back to the 14,4 mm of the Ultra. Keeping my fingers crossed, but I can also imagine a line of thinking inside Apple where the Ultra specific customers would prefer any efficiency gains be "invested" in an even longer battery life vs. a thinner case.

I'm definitely in the camp of those who like the size and overall feel of the Ultra... so I would surely welcome better battery life but not a smaller case

And that is the „marketing math“ that Apple will have to do then: how much better would a re-designed Ultra sell if a) battery life went from the stated 36 hours to, say, 44 hours, or if b) the thickness went from 14,4 mm to, say, 13 mm?

I for one would probably only ever consider another Ultra if it got thinner (not smaller per se, the 49 mm vertically are fine for me). Would you mind so much that you wouldn‘t get a thinner Ultra?

If we're talking 1mm thinner I guess I would be OK with it... too much thinner while keeping the 49mm vertically would look strange in my opinion. For me the "built-like-a-tank" feeling that it oozes, is a key feature

I feel like the trend for huge mechanical watches has not abated, either.

The series 10 obv encroached on the display size advantage of the Ultra. I could see it going either way as far as the Ultra becoming thinner to move towards the Series. But perhaps a larger display would be more likely.

Maybe even make the case taller just so they can have the marketing bullet of saying 50mm

I don’t know, from my observations it seems like the sizes of modern mechanicals are more all-over-the-place than ever before. Just look at the insane table of sizes for the new Rolex OP colours 😲

I think they could stay at 49 and still give the „biggest display“ crown back to the Ultra 3 if the re-design reduces the bezels (glass and/or metal). Combined with a reduction in thickness it would be a very attractive package (while still rugged/tank-like).

While I love the S10 and think it is in many ways the best Series Watch yet, I also yearn for the less-minimal design and especially the less-glare-prone flat display of the Ultra.

...

It would be great if they kept the same size but decreased the bezels, made it look like that one shot in the original promo video where the screen filled the entire face area. That on a Black Ultra would be 🔥 Persoanlly I like the thickness of it as is and would prefer that extra space for better battery life etc. I’m less keen on thinner watches but that’s of course all very much personal preference. Let’s see what Sept brings 🤞
