Something like this happened to me on an old stainless steel series 4 or 5 back in the day, and even having apple care + at that time, support gave me a hard time to replace the watch since technically they said it was cosmetic. I had to tell them as a consumer, to me this is a defect since sapphire is not supposed to scratch and none of my mechanical watches with sapphire have scratches. Eventually she agreed to replace it under warranty, but gave me a hard time for quite a while during the call. The Apple rep in the store wasn't able to help so I was calling support on the phone while I was in the store. I understand there may be a coating or whatever over the screen that may scratch but that's not how sapphire is advertised when mechanical watches are sold (and one of my mechanical watches over the years had scratches), and neither should the Apple watch with sapphire screen scratch.

I would go in and explain that to the apple genius person and see if they would allow for a replacement, either due to a warranty exchange (which case would be great), or even with a surcharge for replacement (next best thing). They may have you call Apple support on the phone to discuss it. Good luck!

As far as Im aware, Apple doesn't do screen or replacements of any other components for Apple watch, they'll just swap it out for a refurbished watch that will look like new! :)

Sapphire crystals are very scratch-resistant, but with a hard enough „opponent“ you can of course scratch them, on Apple Watch as well as on mechanical watches.
I agree, theroretically anything with a moh's hardness scale of 10, i.e. with fine grains of sand, or if OP had a piece of diamond against it, it can scratch. But I also think the issue is that the Apple watch sapphire screen does have a coating on top that can be scratched (esp if "deep" as OP has mentioned) from my understanding and from reading posts on this forum. My mechanical watches with sapphire screens have no scratches, I have 3-4 watches, so just based on my experience with sapphire screen watches, it is rare. I think it still may be worth OP asking Apple support to see what they can do, esp if OP is ready to pay for a replacement. It is cosmetic, so Apple support may even deny a replacement even if paid out of pocket.

Looks like we'll be getting Eperon d'Or AirTags and Magsafe wallets for SS26 🤩

As well as some interesting stiched options on a blue leather, including a sea horse and Chaîne d'Ancre pattern, plus is that a Medor option on the right 👀

It's not the Medor studs unfortunately; they're rounded instead of pointed squares. These are the Cloute studs.

True my mechanical watches are mostly Patek’s and none scratch even over years! It’s only bothersome in the sun! If not will just buy a new watch

I’ve got a couple of Kilim bands plus a Fauve Barenia Double Tour (brown leather) and a blue leather Single Tour that I’m thinking of selling. All 40mm. Is there much of a market for these older straps?

Hermes is ridiculous. Who buys that?
I think in a land where a bag can run $15-30k, $5000 is not a big ask for their clientele. They’re an ultra exclusive luxury brand with hand saddle stitched leather goods (including these pieces) and not produced in high quantities. So they can command whatever price they want; their sales are increasing annually, so there are buyers out there for the goods that move well and for everything else they can be funky and experimental and eye wateringly expensive.

I would counter argue that a mini kelly can have a starting price of around $9k. So this travel pouch being more than half the price of a highly functional, and highly sought after purse, is not priced proportionately.

But as you mentioned, it’s Hermes and there is no sense to their pricing.

A mini Kelly in Epsom is currently $12k as the entry point, plus the 1.5-2x prespend too! 9k was the price in 2023 I believe!
