Well, it's in somewhere in between. Here's the language:

For the SS:
Every Apple Watch and Apple Watch Nike+ comes with one year of hardware repair coverage through its limited warranty and up to 90 days of complimentary support.

AppleCare+ for Apple Watch and Apple Watch Nike+ extends your coverage to two years from the original purchase date of your Apple Watch and adds up to two incidents of accidental damage coverage, each subject to a $69 service fee, plus applicable tax. In addition, you’ll get 24/7 priority access to Apple experts via chat or phone through getsupport.apple.com.

Extend your coverage to two years of service and expert telephone technical support.

For the Hermes:
Every Apple Watch Edition and Apple Watch Hermès comes with two years of hardware repair coverage through its limited warranty and up to two years of complimentary support.

AppleCare+ for Apple Watch Edition and Apple Watch Hermès extends your coverage to three years from the original purchase date of your Apple Watch and adds up to two incidents of accidental damage coverage, each subject to a $79 service fee plus applicable tax. In addition, you’ll get 24/7 priority access to Apple experts via chat or phone through getsupport.apple.com.

Extend your coverage to three years of service and expert telephone technical support.

---
So, you're correct that the Hermes doesn't get you exactly what the SS w/AC+ gets you. But it is definitely an improved extended warranty. So perhaps not $49. But certainly not $0 either.

I do agree it extends the warranty. There is no doubt about that, and I agree that can't be "free". It's not in any way AC+. It just a warranty on defects of the Watch. Again AC+ is still a must in my eyes, but I don't think we can really take that extended warranty into much account for the extra price. I mean watch maybe $20? I don't really know. The other thing we have to consider though, is that AC+ cost $20 more for the Hermès and edition watches. I am sure most that get the Hermès and edition get AC+. That extra $20 for a year warranty might be washed right there.

With that said, I am glad they offer it because I have the ceramic edition and love having the extended warranty.

Hehehe... I love how you all break things down.

:)

The bottom line is that people who like it will buy it. Does not matter. Apple could be charging double what they charge and people would still buy it.

I think it's a reasonably good deal if you want the Hermes label attached to your watch and you want the faces that come with it.

If you just want a SS watch and a Hermes band, it's clearly the most economical option to buy these separately.

It's good that we all have options, no?

:D

As for "justifying it" here's what the Hermes watch includes that you would *not* get with the SS + an Hermes band purchased separately:

You left out the Hermes box. I think the box adds at least $10 in value.

This would be me. :D I'm actually wondering if there's a way to somehow hook the ends of the double tour band together without the watch so I can wear it as a bracelet. I've looked at other Hermes leather bracelets, but none is as nice as the double tour band.

Your right. Options are awesome. I don't care about the Hermès edition watch as I hate the watch faces because you can't add complications. I actually like that the watchfaces work with square watches, but add complications. Isn't that the purpose of a smart watch? What cool into do you get with a standard analog Watch face? I choose the band rather then the whole watch. Makes more sense to me.

True...but with DOCK nowadays, which allows you to look at different info quickly, i think OS3 has made Hermes more desirable (in my eyes) than before.

That is some what true, but I like having the info at a glance. I like having the temp, maybe the weather conditions, or anything at a glance. That for me is what makes the smart watch a smart watch. I could go buy a Hermès watch and get the standard Watch face if I wanted that. Sure you still get the notifications with the AW, but I think they both lacked creativity with the watch faces. Why not work a little harder and get the complications added?

Hermes watch face is about tradition (all its watches have similar face/fonts) and simplicity. I don't mind giving up a little of upfront info for a nice watch face especially when the same upfront info can be access quickly via Dock. Can you imagine if they add in complications WITHIN the Hermes dial...too crowded and would look horrible IMHO.

I love the classiness of the face. My thing is I think they should have reimagined it. Made it fit the watch with complications. Keep the class, but make it a smart Watch face. Just my thoughts.

Would still buy the Hermès if I had not already gotten the strap alone for my SS. Also after seeing the ceramic, I could not pass on that. In my mind it's the best looking AW to date.

I thought I'd use the dock, but find I much prefer accessing apps through complications. I have three modular watch faces for night, daytime at home, and out, each set up with complications I'm most likely to use in those settings. Then the apps I want are one tap away. With the dock, it's tap the side button, then scroll around looking for the app I want, before finally finding it and bringing it up.

I switch too depending on time and place, and band as well. If I had the Hermes I would continue to do the same. Very jealous of my wife's S2 Hermes because I think the square faces are the most visually in sync with the watch itself.

Before I upgraded to watchOS 3, my favorite face was the solar face. I find the visual representation of time as the sun's path very pleasant. I still like it aesthetically, but find I don't use it so often, as the faces with complications are much more useful in watchOS 3. Another new favorite face that came with watchOS 3 is the x-large face with the moon phase complication. It's another pleasant way to visualize time, and I often use it in the evenings. Not sure how well these will work with Hermes bands, though.

Have you preordered online or do you plan on trying to pick one up at a Hermès/Apple Store?
— I pickeup mine at Hermés in Berlin. Called the store on 09/23 and was able to reserve one for next day. Hermès Berlin received only one or two with Deployment Buckle with the initial delivery from Apple.

What style did you go with?
— Single Tour Deployment Buckle, Fauve

Do you plan on buying additional bands?
— No. At least not from Hermès. The only band I was really attracted to was the Cuff, which is not available anymore, and I am not a huge fan of all other colors than Fauve.

What attracts you to the Hermès Edition over another AW version?
— To be honest, I bought the Apple Watch Hermès moostly because of the unique watch band. This is the most beautiful, most comfortable and with the little twist in the clasp the most "clever" band I have ever owned. It feels great, workmanship and quality are, well, incomparable. As a little bonus, it's nice to have some additional watch faces of a strong character.

I'm very tempted by the Hermes Apple watch, but the premium is very hard to swallow. If you compare a regular SS 42mm with the brown saddle band against the Hermes single tour, and add Apple Care+ to each, it's a $600 difference with tax (or 80% of the cost of the regular Apple watch with Apple Care+ and tax). I have no doubt that the bands are great, and the Apple analog faces are bleh, but still...

But that's luxury for you. A $150,000 Richard Mille isn't going to tell time better than a $40 Timex.

They just work differently and also fail differently (mechanical vs quartz; there are no $40 mechanical watches). A mechanical watch is far better to predict than a quartz watch is and therefore it does a better job at telling the time. You actually know when the mechanical watch is off, whereas you don't with a quartz. The main question is if that is worth the huge price difference or not.

I decided to return my 42mm Ceramic Edition for a Hermes 42mm with Fauve Barenia Single Tour. Bought the Watch from Hermes website and had it shipped overnight. Just got it a couple hours ago. Wish I could have gotten the deployment buckle but doesn't seem to be available anywhere in the USA.

Wow, I am so happy. I love the Hermes experience and am glad to add another orange box to my collection.

Now on to the Watch. I liked the Ceramic version and it is very lightweight, but it just doesn't look anywhere near as classy as the SS version. Also wasn't overly excited about many of the band combinations.

I didn't mind the noticeable lip on the Ceramic, but I greatly appreciate the difference in the SS version now that I have both in front of me. There is a significant difference.

The Fauve Barenia leather strap is extremely high quality as is the clasp. It really makes the Watch look so much more impressive. The orange sport band is another positive and I prefer it to the Cloud color with the Edition.

I also love the Hermes Watch faces. Really makes a huge difference to the overall look/feel of the experience.

Now back to the Ryder Cup... Go USA!!!

Since we're days away from the launch of the Series 2 Apple Watch Hermès Edition, I though it would be great to start a thread for new Series 2 Hermès owners.

What attracts you to the Hermès Edition over another AW version?

1. I ordered the moment the Store came to life EST in my corner of NC at launch.

2. 42mm SS Feu

3. I did at launch: The Bleu Agate

4. I chose this watch based on the exclusive quality, colors (even within the software), extended warranty, and watch faces/fonts mostly. I'm not out to 'show off' with this watch, but a client went gaga over it today. He said what a beautiful watch it is, and that 'Apple got it right this time.' I can't disagree.

The twist in the clasp allows you to tighten or loosen the fit, as if the twist gives an adjustment in-between holes. If yes, that's wonderful, with so many straps I feel my best fit is in-between holes.

In your pic, I'm not able to figure out where the twist mechanism is located.

Maybe with time, the band will be sold separately.

I had the original Hermès (waited in a short line at the UES Apple Store last year) and this year went for the Series 2. I also decided to get the etoupe band. I use the Hermès watch face about 99.9% of the time. I like the leather and how it ages and darkens over time. The etoupe band looks sharp and I plan to switch off between my year-old Fauve Barenia and the Étoupe. I will likely give my old Hermès and new Fauve Barenia band to my mother.

I tried pre-ordering the Fauve Barenia with deployment clasp the first day pre-orders were taken but it wasn't available. Went to several Apple stores in NYC on 9/23, the first day S2 watches were in stock also without success. Finally, i got randomly lucky on 9/29 and happened to login to the Hermes webpage and got the Barenia with the deployment clasp. They ship from NJ so I got it the next day in NYC.

Quick question for choreographics, i don't see the twist mechanism, can you describe or post a picture of it? i could use it, i'm a half size between holes. I don't see such a mechanism on my deployment buckle.

So are you saying they have them in stock on Hermes site? I've thought of ordering through Hermes but there is no indication of whether they're in stock or not. My apple order shows 8 weeks until ship date.

The "twist", Apple like to call it, is that you don't have to adjust the band everytime you fasten the Apple Watch. So, no, you can't have an adjustment between holes, but once the pin is fixed the band works like a link bracelet and not like a Classic Buckle made of leather.
