USB-C Is needed for me to consider an upgrade at this point
(bonus points if it’s thunderbolt 3 would love to partition a portion off as a high-speed drive)

otherwise they would have to completely BTFO current performance for me to actually care & I dont mean just camera, these incremental increases are really underwhelming

If they go portless, force iCloud upgrades, I’m not getting it. Preferred to backup my data via iTunes and not on their cloud. I don’t think 2000’s innovation of Wi-Fi file transfer is the answer. It’s still slow.

My guess is next year being 12s and 12s Pro. Same design, Pro getting 120Hz screen, improved cameras.

I imagine all around a nice camera improvement given the 11 to 12 was quite minor (which isn't surprising given how big of an improvement the 11 brought last year).

I'm going with a 12 mini this year. I can see myself getting suckered in for a 12s Pro next year (I waffle like crazy with phone sizes).

It's pretty obvious Apple couldn't wait to get rid of the "s" designation, and I'm so glad they did. Keep it simple.

As it is, iPhone already has way too many syllables tacked on to its name. iPhone 13 Ess Pro Max would be even worse. What a mouthful. Yuck.

After much consideration I decided to skip the 12 Pro Max.

The factors were:
- Battery (bigger battery like the 11 series, 5nm Qualcomm x60 or better 5G modem rather than the 7nm x55 which eats battery on the 12)
- Bezel - hopefully the 12S Pro is more muted
- Similarity between the 11 Pro Max and 12 Pro Max screens (size, brightness)
- Lack of 120Hz

I’m hoping for the above features in the next generation.

Missing out on the camera in the 12 Pro Max though :-(

If port-less, I need a reliable CarPlay solution to upgrade.
If not port-less, I’ll upgrade regardless. But I do hope for USB C and a better camera upgrade. Touch ID power button would be welcome to.

If iPhone 13 gets the rumored Touch ID, 120Hz, Pencil support, USB-C, I won't even think twice.

What about you?

Which feature(s) will compel you to upgrade from 12 to 13?
I wouldn't either. I can't see upgrading in a year. I upgraded from the 7+ to the X for the size, otherwise would have waited. From the 11 to the 12 Pro for the better camera and to hand down the 11 to someone needing to upgrade from the 2016 SE. If I thought for sure I would upgrade next year, I would have skipped this year.

Pretty obvious? I'd say the only thing obvious is the current 3 year design cycles they've adopted over the past 6 years, exactly as @klasma mentioned.

13s (who knows if we'll even reach that far before a larger name change) is no different in syllables than 11.

How so?
6 6s 7
X Xs 11
12 (12s) (13)
The S is on a three-year cycle.

Going to keep the iPhone 12 Pro Max for several years. My 6S+ lasted me 5 years so I suspect the 12 Pro Max will be the same. The great thing about waiting more then one year to upgrade, the improvements make it worth upgrading, at least for me anyways.

120hz would be nice but like others mentioned, still too early.

I’d like to get the 12 Pro Max in my hands first before thinking of anything in the future. Right now I’m thinking of keeping it 2 years.
