Several outlets are reporting HomePod 12.1 update is out. But I don't see it.

After the "checking for update" wheel spins for a bit, it says:

iOS 12
Your HomePod software is up to date.

What am I missing?

I've updated my iPhone and iPad to 12.1, so I know that's not the issue.

HomePod is also seeing updates today with fairly vague release notes noting “general improvements for stability and quality.”

I'd doubt 9to5mac are wrong... its a full paragraph on the homepods so wasn't a mistake, they also list the release notes, they wouldn't make that up.

When I searched, I saw couple of other sites had the release notes from Apple as well.

Maybe it was pulled, seems the watchOS 5.1 update is bricking a bunch of Series 4 watches as well. Not related I know but maybe they were just being proactive so HomePods don't start bricking, either.

I'm not at home on the local network and can't update remotely as was available on previous versions. But, you might try turning off automatic updates for Home, restart your phone, and then manual check while on the same network by swiping down.
