if it is painfully obvious that you have a big yellow dot in the middle of your screen, you should look into replacing it. otherwise i would consider it normal.

Have decided to play the lottery game, and I have compared my 1st display and 2nd display. Well the 2nd one has more lightbleed (top left and bottom right) then my first one but the screen has much more uniformity, it looks more white then my old one. Backlight bleed seems to be normal on all display (just more or less). I think I should be happy with my 2nd display.....by the way my 2nd one assembled in China again.

P.S: Have talk to Apple and the guy said iMac is assembled in China not USA....only MAC Pro....I know there are people out there got ones assembled in USA.......how's everyone? China? USA?

I've experienced a small chip in the glass in the area around the bottom left-hand corner. I definitely didn't mishandle the glass so I'm suspecting it happened when I reached behind to hit the power button at some stage. I don't wear a ring so no hard objects have been in contact.

Just wondering if anyone has experienced the front glass to exhibit some weakness where it has chipped along the edge? I guess this question would be applicable to non-retinas iMacs also.

I have been looking into the IPS panel and heard about the IPS glow. I am a bit confuse with IPS glow. What is it exactly?

When I watched movies with dark scenes I notice the edges of the screen seems to be like glowing.....bright a bit and then disappeared then bright up a bit again....Is this IPS glow???

Hmm... Looks like it has been hit pretty hard. Do you live alone?

Definitely no foul play. I've even found the glass chip under the display. Only time I touch that area of the screen is when I hit the power button hence why I asking if anyone else has experienced this before.

I did the checkered test and the ⅔ of my left screen left an impression. No dead pixels that I can see but I didn't look that hard. Meh, it was refurbished so I don't want to go through the hassle for a little ghosting if you want to call it that.

I'm not implying foul play per se but I wondered if somebody else might have had an accident and didn't want to own up?

You don't know how it happened so maybe somebody else did it? I'd imagine you would have noticed if it was you.

I have the same case - only with the checkered test. The issue disappears when you stop thinking about it :)

Does anyone knows what IPS glow is? I have searched the net but didn't get much answer out of it....Is it like when under dark background, edges of screen glowing???

Just look at any 2013 or earlier iMac display on a dark background after using the Retina and you'll see it. The areas farthest away from where you're looking are brighter. It's present a little bit on the Retina but not nearly as much as previous iMac LCD panels.

I don't have the 2013 or earlier models and in-store they only display the 5K model. I have a retina MBP 15" and 13", I can see that under dark background it sort of glowing at edges. Is that the IPS glow? So I'm guessing they are all the same since they are IPS display.

Yes and yes. From my experience the displays on rMBPs are a little bit worse than the Retina iMac when it comes to IPS glow.

Ah, I see. I think my retina iMAC IPS glow is worst than my rMBPs. Are these IPS glow varies on screen as well?

I bought this refurbished iMac about a week ago and after using it for a few days now I can see why it was sent back, lol. The residual ghosting is very apparent. I came back from a sleep and saw a spectre of iTunes on the screen. Opening another application over it made it go away or my eyes simpler couldn't see the faintness of it. Not enough to send it back though. Too much hassle bringing it in.

Can anyone view image size of 7680 × 4320 in Preview in their iMAC 5K running latest version 10.10.3? I can't view an image of that size, it opens but disappear and only grey background left.

Here is the picture for testing: https://www.dropbox.com/s/rqofr2xub...s_with_Rainbow_Colors_Background7680.jpg?dl=0

It just on my iMAC 5K that I can't view it in Preview. My Macbook Retina can open just fine. I am wondering if it is software bug related to iMAC 5K or is it my computer.

Works fine here on 10.10.2. I'm sure it's just a bug in Preview.

I talked to Apple yesterday and they said they have no report on the bug in Preview yet, and they asked to do OSX recovery.....still not work. Then they asked me to do Internet recovery....still not work....Then they asked me to format HDD and Install OSX again.....still not work. Finally the PRAM reset...still not work , the support now send a note to developer team and I have sent one as well. it is technically the software bug in iMAC 5K Preview . I felt like I have wasted so much time just to install OSX and restore backup....

I would really appreciated if anyone with iMAC 5K 10.10.3 test this :D.

Thanks redheeler for reporting that it worked on 10.10.2

P.S: Xee, iPhotos, Photos can view just fine.

I don't like Preview for several reasons. If it bothers you that much try a little program called "LilyView".

Thanks I'll try that. :D

P.S: Just to update, I saw a post here somewhere about Preview won't open large image. So I am sure that this is not my iMAC problem. It's software bug.

I tried LilyView, but why everytime I open an image it loads to fullscreen?
And If i exit fullscreen there is always a dark blinking?

View > Automatic Zoom > Keep Zoom Level should fix this.

Thanks.

Are you talking about the zoom animation? Does seem a little glitchy if you hold down ⌘- or ⌘+.

No not zoom animation. When view image in fullscreen. If we exit fullscreen, apart from the image, the background becomes like screen blinking (Image does not blink, it just the background). So I think it might be buggy.
