* I love Apple, but I never buy their over priced cases. I ordered two kinds of 3rd party cases to try. The ESR magnetic folio kind for $23 and the FINTIE case for only $9.99. It has side protection & a pencil holder on the back for when you are not charging or using the pencil. Very cool. I actually chose the FINTIE case because I liked it better and will return the ESR folio.

** For extra padded protection when walking in the city with just my iPad sketching...or for when I put my iPad in my backpack when traveling, I just ordered two different soft sleeves. The TOMTOC sleeve with detachable shoulder strap for $30 and the LACDO sleeve for $10.99. They both arrive Friday and I will post my review for them and then choose one.

*** The Amazing thing is that if I kept all 4 cases, it’d still be less than the $80 Apple folio case alone. Lol.
How would th keyboard work? Do you have to take the cas off EVERYTIME you want to use the folio keyboard? With the Bluetooth keyboard being not an option

I have always been a huge fan of Waterfield designs, but unfortunately on their iPad products, they have been missing the mark lately. The ultimate case they had was the Smartcase, it had leather on the side, a pocket on the front that I could fit paperwork in along with the Apple Pencil, and good protection. They discontinued it despite the fact that their customer service said there are a lot of requests.

I have the Dash Sleeve from the 10.5 that the 11" fits tight with the keyboard case. The footprint is bigger, there is also a zip pocket in the front with a slot for the pencil, but you really can't fit anything else in the pocket, its too short for any documents. It's a clumsy design when trying to remove the iPad, holding it and grabbing the pencil.

I ordered and returned the sleeve case. Nice design, offers great protection, but the single flaw which they stated was normal is the slot for the Apple Pencil is very loose with no grip. So every time you pull the iPad out, the Pencil falls out.

I hate talking bad about Waterfield, I have owned a lot of their products over the years, and I love my Bolt Briefcase, but I am hoping they improve on their mobile products.

In the end, I ended up ordering a Pack & Smooch Hampshire Case. It's made of Merino Wool with a leather bottom portion for holding. My iPad Pro with Keyboard fits perfect inside. Its got a great Pencil holder with a leather accent that doesn't and won't slide out accidentally, and a pocket that is big enough to hold documents. Its flap closes securely with magnet buttons that are strong enough to keep it closed when in transport, and weak enough that it is not difficult to open to access the iPad. It ships from German, I bought it through Amazon, and it took 1 week.

Well, yeah, if you use the folio keyboard you’d have to take the case off, but I don’t use the keyboard. I like to type with the virtual keyboard on my iPads. But that’s me. I think if I used a physical keyboard, i’d definitely get the folio with keyboard. I’ve seen some people use a portable Bluetooth keyboard too. But again, I don’t need one since I prefer the virtual keyboard on my iPads.

I carry mine on a daily basis. I use it for work. I take notes from business clients and I also use it to watch movies and stuff during down time. It really is like a computer and once I get Photoshop on this thing, I don’t think I will ever touch my Mac again.

That's a nice skin!

I love the classic logo. I went for Slickwrap's Classic Mac skin:

I started to order that same skin. H
I finally received my dBrand Matrix Skin for my iPad Pro 12.9 (3rd Gen).

I also received my custom Retro Apple Logo for my iPad Pro.

I installed everything last night along with the skin for my Apple Pencil and it looks amazing.

I intend to use the Gel case when not using the Smart Folio Keyboard Case. It is much lighter with just the Gel Case. The gel case will add a little drop protection.

I got a 12" Notebook pouch which fits the iPad Pro 12.9" with gel case and also my Smart Folio and Apple Pencil comfortably. I then put the Notebook pouch inside my messenger bag which I carry to my office.

I have no issues carrying the my iPad Pro 12.9 to the office since I carry my bag at all times and so my iPad will be in it.

Can you tell any performance difference with the folio magnets after applying the skin?

That is the whole problem, I am planning to use the Apple Folio Cover (Not the Keyboard) Most of the time, But I also intend to use the Keyboard Folio by Apple so everytime I want to use the Keyboard Folio I will have to remove the normal Folio Cover. That is very frustrating !!

No difference that I can tell

Awesome! Thanks for the reply.
[doublepost=1544682489][/doublepost]Has anybody tried putting the new 12.9 with keyboard folio in the old Apple 12.9 leather sleeve that has the pencil slot on it? I would like to know if it fits with keyboard folio and how the gen 2 pencil fits in the old pencil slot. I’ve seen them used for pretty cheap.

That is the same problem for me.

When not using the folio Keyboard I am using the gel case.

So I have to carry both in my notebook pouch.

No choice.

I just use the folio keyboard on my 11 for home/office use. For my use the folio is really brilliant.
For work I use a leather double folio that can carry my MBP13 and iPad 11 together. It’s deceptively simple but cleverly made. It are four layers of leather, making two larger pockets and one small in the middle for cards/small & thin microfiber cloth.
It’s made by the Bōle tanneries, really nice people and it start to show some patina after 4 years of use. (I don’t use it daily, just 2 to 3 times a week).
I don’t have it with me today, but these are from Bōle:

For days off I use a small photo bag from Fogg specialist bags, like today:

I use a smart cover and a sleeve. I never use a case while using my iPad, or even the smart cover. There’s nothing better than holding and touching a naked iPad Pro :p

I see.

Does the sleeve have a pocket or a holder for the pencil?

Yes.

I see that i didnt include an URL, apologies:
https://www.harberlondon.com/collections/ipad/products/slim-ipad-pro-evo-with-apple-pencil-holder

They have more quality sleeves/bags.

Or perhaps, that is an insanely overpriced one instead :D

Like I said, I don’t use a physical keyboard at all, so it doesn’t really affect me, but I hear ya. Constantly having to change covers all the time would be a pain. At least the regular folio is magnetic & easy to take off unlike a snap in case. But I think if I did use a keyboard, I would just use Apple’s keyboard folio. It’s not much thicker than the regular folio. Why don’t you just do that? Then you wouldn’t have to worry about changing covers and would have the keyboard with you all the time. If you prefer the regular folio, you could always use a small Bluetooth keyboard with the regular folio. I know a lot of people do that too. They are pretty small & light and easily fit in a small backpack or carry case. So there are solutions to your dilemma.

Yep ! That is what I will have to do. Keep using the Apple Regular Folio Cover (Without the Keyboard) And when I require some speed in typing use any third party bluetooth keyboard. Any really Cant afford to have both the Apple Folio Covers Regular and the Keyboard ! lol ! That would be unnecessary splurge !

Not sure what you mean. I don’t use a physical keyboard. If I need to type on my iPad, I use the on screen keyboard. If you are saying you don’t want to use a Bluetooth keyboard, but don’t want to have to take a case off your iPad every time you wanted to use the folio keyboard, there is only ONE solution.....DON’T use a case....ONLY use the Apple keyboard folio as your case. Then you never have to worry about changing your case when you want to type, and you have protection for your iPad at the same time. Simple.
