I adjusted to the size increase fine but I know quite a few people who went back to smaller iPhones. I don’t think it’s a straight forward transition for everybody and it comes down to compromise. My phone does remind me from time to time how cumbersome it can be. Yesterday I was up a ladder raking Christmas lights down and it was digging into my ribs. I nearly took it out my pocket and chucked it. Most of the time I enjoy it though.
Ha yah true. One handed typing is something I struggled with on the max but it’s a breeze on the xr.

Offsetting your keyboard to your preferred hand should help regardless of phone width. :)

It’s the same with the Max/plus sized phones. You will notice the extra size/weight when you first upgrade from the smaller sizes. But your brain will quickly adapt and will become normal, like a few minutes after you get out of the shower.
So yeah, that’s how people manage to use them

Actually I noticed the opposite.

I was initially thrilled to upgrade to the 8+ with its bigger screen and higher PPI (coming from a 6s), but eventually I noticed I didn't like carrying the phone to store, etc.

It was just too heavy and big to bring with me everywhere.

Though I'm sure women won't notice as much as they carry their phones in their bag.

I'm using an XR now and it's much more ideal size to carry around.

BTW, I don't even know how women put those big phones in their back pocket of their skinny jeans. That looks so uncomfortable.

Apple just doesn’t slap hardware into the phone as Samsung does. For example the mysterious “AirPower” was supposed to be used in conjunction with wireless charging introduced on the iPhone 8.

Apple takes its time with changes and makes sure the changes are ready and have a purpose. That’s why you don’t see sd card slots, ir blasters, finger printer readers on the back etc. it’s not about being first to slap a new piece of hardware into its consumer products.

Apparently I don’t see much difference of iPhone’s wireless charging and Android’s wireless charging. I don’t see differences between iPhone’s fast charging with Android’s rapid charging. There is no different between Apple’s way of implement dual SIM functionality than most dual SIM Android phone. There are not much different between iPhone’s OLED screen and competitors OLED screen. In fact, iPhone XS or Max using pentile arrangement, like old Note 2 and surely some Apple fans made fun of Pentile.

You might see Apple take its sweet time to implement certain features, in the end, they made no differences.

On the other hand there is a big difference between Face ID and android authentication. There is a big difference between Apple support and most android vendors. In fact your last sentence is a straw man.

As I said previously competition is good. Buy what you want.

I've seen a few Xs Max's out in the wild and could never do that size. But again, it's all about personal preference. I love the size of my Xs, but I also don't have huge hands and I don't want a phablet - especially when I have an iPad.

I agree...I have both an Xs Max and Pixel 3 XL....any difference in wireless charging between the 2 is not noticable to be honest.
Apple does take it's time rolling out features. They get the most out of the existing feature set before they introduce a new feature.

Be honest, Depth censor is nothing new in technology. And Android support is depends on vendor. I had no problem with all my Android devices and I never need to contact supports

There is virtually no new technology employed in android either. Most of the tech in android phones has been around for many years and/or has been copied from Apple. So I’m unclear as to where this conversation is headed.

Point is Apple does take its sweet time to make things better. It just take Apple longer to copied Android. Apple want to implement features slowly, so there are selling points year after year. Apple knows the art of money grab.

In my own opinion, adding an oled display is no more copying android than adding a WiFi chip. You can’t claim copying hardware and ideas from android that’s been around longer than android itself. As far as the software, yeah android and iOS have been “copying” each other shamelessly for 10 years.

Apple implements features with a purpose as opposed to just slapping hardware and software on their products. So when a feature it’s implemented it’s enhances the product and/or product line.

Unless one is a 6 year old child, the Xs max fits easily in the front pockets of most pants.

This might blow the OP’s mind, but I occasionally carry both my Xs max and my iPhone 8 Plus at the same time. I keep both in the same front, right pants pocket on top of my wallet, too.

Adding one post to the "carrying my XS Max in my front pocket" squad. I wear regular jeans and it fits perfectly, even when sitting. No, it doesn't bother me.

And no, I would never go back to a non-Max/Plus size. I find them to be too small for what I do.

That a bit of a silly condescending comment IMO. I use a Plus iPhone but appreciate it’s not the easiest phone for portability for everybody. There are times when it annoys me but I’m generally happy with the size. My wife would never entertain a phone that size because unfortunately the fashion industry doesn’t make women’s jeans with deep pockets which is why so many people carry them in their back pockets.

Don’t assume people who don’t like big phones are children, it insults the intelligence of many here.

well said.

Very easily. Even one handed typing is possible standing up on a packed train. I also carry a handbag so don’t have to subscribe to this fitting in the pocket stuff.

You’re being overly sensitive. I meant that adult sized pants have big pockets. My six year old son’s pants do not.

I have had a 6+, 7+, and now the Xr. All go in a case that clips on my belt. Who cares if it is cool or not it works well for me.

How do you guys that own a 6+/7+/8+ or X/XS/XS Max comfortably carry your phone with you all day?

I love the bigger screen, but I hate the bulk of these larger phones. I don't wear tight trousers/jeans or anything (just regular sizes), yet even if I am standing up I can still 'feel' the phone and am conscious of it all the time. It's obviously even worse when I move/bend or sit down as my trousers/jeans pull the phone against me even more. I'm absolutely paranoid about bending/misshaping/crushing the phone when doing this.

  • I've heard people says things like "when I sit down, I just take my phone out of my pocket". REALLY? That might work for you, but let's be honest, for the majority of people that's just unnecessary hassle and means you always have to be conscious of doing it. It's not practical.

  • I've heard others say they keep their phone in their shirt pocket, or jacket pocket, or on a clip/belt. Again, that might work for you, but for a lot of people, its not 'cool' to have your phone in your shirt pocket or clipped to a belt - and a lot of people don't wear shirts with pockets or jackets (especially when its warm for most of the year).

  • I've heard people say "when I'm out, I just carry it around in my hand". That just sounds ridiculous, if someone knocks into you, or you drop it accidently, or you need two hands for something etc.

  • Lastly, I've heard people say they keep their phones in their back pants/jeans/trouser pocket. Again, that might work for you but I'd be paranoid of someone stealing it, or it falling out, or I forget its there and I sit on it and bend/crush it.

So for the rest of us (which I assume is still a lot of people), how do you do it? Do you just constantly wear baggy pants/trousers/jeans so it can move freely without the risk of being crushed/bent?

Honestly, at the moment, although I love the bigger screen, the larger size just isn't worth the extra consideration/hassle. A phone should be a convenience and make aspects of life easier, not be something you have to be conscious of all the time when moving/sitting etc.

My 2 cents:I owned only plus models mainly because of the battery life. I have now switched to iPhone XS since now battery life is on par with old plus models (at least better than my 7 Plus with battery health at 85%, that was more than enough to reach the end of the day).

I have an office job and I use my phone mainly for social media, messaging and emails, browsing the web, looking for information (weather/maps), photos and light gaming. I don't watch movies on my phone, but youtube videos occasionally.

For everything else (working, online shopping) I use my macbook.

I adjusted my grip to the plus models in the past, so I kind of use them one-handed, but:
- I have rather normal hands and use tight pants, the plus models it's very uncomfortable. Every time I sit down, I put my phone on my desk/table, I can feel the size in my pants too much (gigity!)
- I tried the Max at my local apple store and there's a huge difference vs the plus model in term of ergonomics. Every time I tried to reach the top bezel I had to move the phone in my hand in way that felt "dangerous". I can't describe the movement but I felt the phone could slip away easily. I had a similar feeling while trying the XR, even if the bigger bezels allowed better top-corners reachability.
- At the end I decided that I should not adapt further to my phone, it must be the opposite. I have a quite busy life, I use my phone with one hand 99% of the time and the XS is just a perfect balance between ergonomics, display size and battery life.

I've never used a wallet - I don't like them.

I hate them. I just take my phone with a slot for my drivers license and CC. I've always carried my wallets in hand or left them in the car or put them in a coat pocket. Once I got married, my wallet lives in my wife's purse. Now, I'd rather take a $20 to lunch than my wallet. Hate wallets.

Absolutely, I prefer separate pockets for cash (of which I carry very little), my keys and other stuff. This frees up my left trousers pocket for my iPhone.

When I take it out outside, I always take great care to be as motionless as possible to prevent slips and grip the phone 2-handed. I've never dropped an iPhone.
