Okay so after not being happy with the fit of the official smart case for the price, I got a really cheap slim case off eBay which I quite like. While on there, I found what looked to be a rip off copy of the official case for a fraction of the price so thought I would order it just out of curiosity. Well it arrived today and it's practically a carbon copy of the official case but is actually slimmer and fits better. The quality of the case is almost as good as the original as well, if you didn't compare them side by side then you would likely never notice.
Some pics.

Okay, only letting me attach one picture from my iPad.
No gap with light shining through at headphone socket...

I have the same case. $20, a more reasonable price I'm actually willing to pay cause I sure as hell ain't spending 80 bones on a case. Functionality and fit-wise it's identical. Looks-wise, it's really close and still looks better than all of the 3rd party cases anyway. And it doesn't have whatever gap in the front that I keep reading about, so it has that going for it too.

I highly doubt it but it doesn't feel much different to the official case to be honest. A bit smoother on the outside and feels identical on the inside.

as far as folding and magnet function is it identical to the apple case? (ie when folded does it stick together)

With the cover folded back, the magnet holds it in place if you hold down the first 2 of the three flaps. When closed, the magnet holds it shut perfectly. When rolled up to act as a stand, it is rock solid in both low and tall modes for typing or movie watching.

for 20 bucks this is a no brainer then. How long from the time you clicked buy to receiving it? (I realize this is UK vs US)

Exactly 2 weeks - Monday to Monday.
Truth be told, if I had the choice between this or the official case for $20, I would still pick this one as it simply fits better.

Awesome.

Just ordered the brown one. I've had my eye on the Olive Brown Smart Case at the Apple Store.

Here is hoping this is similar.

For $20, it is really a no brainer.

Thanks for the link.

i'm thinking about getting the red to match my phone. Allegedly they changed the red on the 6 and 6plus due to complaints about wear...i wonder if this also included the air 2...granted it doesn't get constantly slipped in and out of your pocket like a phone would.

Do you see difference in magnet between the original and this geniune one?

I am thinking about ordering this "geniune case" or a case from JisonCase.com

Do you mean in how it closes? If so, then I don't see any difference at all.

No, when you open it and when you put the cover on the back. Does it hold well? Since I am holding my iPad on the edge and not on the back and I want the magnet to hold the cover on the back, even while walking etc etc.

Ok, I posted that earlier. When folded back, you need to hold 2 of the 3 flaps for it to stay closed. Holding only the first flap will result in the magnet giving in and the cover flopping down. Pretty much the same as the official case.

Yes, I saw your reply. But the original case does not let the cover flop down, when holding the iPad on the edge.

You are right, just checked this again. The original Air case does this as does the mini case but the Air 2 case holds it with only the left edge being gripped.

My iPad Air1 case did not hold to the back. My Air2 case doesn't, either. I don't think it's designed to hold to the back, but there must be variation in the magnet strength. Perhaps it's not even the case, but the iPad -- maybe some iPads have stronger magnets inside.
