What samsung device uses that notch that's integrated into the software the way Apple has done it?

I think Apple did the best they could with the notch, having it an interactive part of the phone itself somewhat takes the negative aspect of it away. Yes there is still a notch/cutout but they made it useful.

Would that interactive part not work at the top of the screen? Having that massive pill when they showed full screen video was a major eyesore moreso than a notch would be.

As more of an Android guy than iphone (but use both) I think the DI is pretty compelling...finally a bit of creative thinking returns to Cookland. Now of course you're gonna see all the Android makers scurry off to their little labs and start spewing out Android Islands by the boatload, just like the did when the notch first came out. Guaranteed.

Not familiar with the Samsung design but it at least allows the user to make some use of that space, and some of those uses seem pretty innovative, so all in all it seems to be a good move.

It irks me that this cutout protrudes lower into the screen than the notch.
Shouldn't the goal be to have the notch/cutout be less intrusive in each new generation?
It reminds me of the Pixel 3 XL "bathtub" that jutted far down into the screen.

This has nothing to do with software, I'm just talking about when it's idle.

The notches and cutouts are a concession to avoid lower quality face scans or under-screen cameras, while maximizing screen area. Telling people to just ignore them is weak design. The island embraces it and makes that concession a useful area to look at and touch.

There’s pros and cons, but I think this is smart if they aren’t happy with under-screen cameras yet and aren’t happy talking people to ignore part of the rectangular space they cut out.

I think it is a very creative move by the designers and programmers. I appreciate such creation and I am willing to pay for that. It is like a digital art. Very impressed.

It's not better, now you have even more of useless part of the screen due to pill. It literally uses display as bezel above the pill. And whole that "interactivity" is just flavor, notch could have done the same thing. They changed it from the notch to pill just for the sake of it.

I doubt the bottom edge of the Dynamic island is not any lower than the bottom of the current notch or the bottom edge of Samsung galaxy's camera circle.

I think it is a great solution to integrate features to make dead space feel like a feature instead of a useless thing. Honestly it was one of the selling points for me to get rid of the phone I had planned on keeping.

Looks like the island is lower, source:Reddit

That’s not a good source. I haven’t seen any comparisons yet that take into account the taller size of the 14 Pros. The unusable area of the screen already extends below the notches on current phones, and with the increased height taken into account, I doubt the island extends below that.
