So, after watching almost every reviews and picture in Twitter we have what we were looking for, and the results are not good. In this case is clear, playing 18:9 videos in 14 pro max is affected by half pill shape, so much better in 13 pro max. what do you think about??

I think it is a great solution to integrate features to make dead space feel like a feature instead of a useless thing. Honestly it was one of the selling points for me to get rid of the phone I had planned on keeping.

I agree completely. But at the same time, I wish they had left it a slimmed down notch, fully affixed to the uppermost border of the screen, and added the dynamic interactives to that.

The pill having screen all around it and being oriented lower than the notch is very distracting. I’m not fond of it at all.

Actually it's both. In terms of pixel, you can 8 but you lose 20, so overall you have 12 less pixels of visibile resolution until the notch/island.

In terms of physical size, if you put the phones next to one another, the island bottom lip is at the same level of the notch bottom lip, due to different physical size and more screen / less bezels.

So: you lose a few pixels, it's more "visible" due to being separate and further down in terms of pixels from the top, but the bottom lip is at the same distance from the bottom of the phone due to larger screen / less bezels.

Not that any of this matter since a functional area is always >>> than a non-functional area IMHO.

Honestly this is so stupid, just skip 14

Y'all can go for for the iPhone 14 if you care this much about the island. And I never understand why people watch full screen video on an 20:9 display. The vast majority of media is not shot in that aspect ratio and thus you're cutting off some of the video when viewing it in full screen.

It's a really dumb idea, can't believe everyone is buying the marketing of "dynamic island". It makes more of the screen useless.

It's not functional vs non-functional. Putting functionals pieces *sometimes* around a non-functional area doesn't make it functional.
How when all the notifications are run thru it now? It’s actually a nice and efficient change and use of multitasking and task switching

This is not entirely correct, because the dimensions of the phone and screen changed. (Phone is a bit bigger and bezel smaller)

So yes, the pill is a bit lower than the notch, but the screen was made bigger to still have the same amount of screen below the cutout.

It is like this:

Apparently PhoneArena has changed their data, because it now looks like this (same link), showing the pill to go slightly lower:

Honestly who cares.

If watching videos in the most perfect and pristine of ways is important to you, why do you watch them ON A PHONE?!

Why would you ever watch a video in full screen and not its normal aspect ratio? Do you zoom in on your TV to hide blank bars in movies?
There are plenty movies/videos that go to the edges and not the top or bottom etc. not everything made the same. I kinda thought everybody knew that.

For those interested:
Below is not exact as I took it from a Luke Miani YT video but it's pretty accurate. It's a 13PM and 14PM side by side from his video. I haven't resized anything. The RED and GRAY lines are the exact same size for both phones. You're getting less unobstructed VERTICAL screen real estate with the 14PM but more unobstructed HORIZONTAL.

It will be interesting to see a side by side with webpages, videos etc open and see how content shows on both. But one thing is clear, the 14PM DI deeps deeper into the screen than the Notch on the 13PM. Take from this whatever you want.

It's not better, now you have even more of useless part of the screen due to pill. It literally uses display as bezel above the pill. And whole that "interactivity" is just flavor, notch could have done the same thing. They changed it from the notch to pill just for the sake of it.
It’s pure marketing. They needed something new/different to market the new model, so they came up with it. The new iPhone has very subtle almost imperceptible new features, so they needed something louder to build their marketing campaign around.
