Well since I bought a MBP in March 2008 and just got a 20" ACD to go with it, guess I can wait a long time..

However, if they release a new Mac Mini that I think would be a valuable base station at home, I might make a move for it.

But its gotta be good :)

I saw this thread and couldn't resist posting a reply as my first post on these forums.
I've been waiting for an iMac for around four years. Being a teenager, saving up for one usually takes a long time, and I always seem to spend any money I've saved unfortunately.
However, at 18 I've finally got enough. Saved £1,000. So in November I went on the apple store for education, 2.6GZ 20inch, 4GB RAM, 320GB HD, iWork.
Then I saw 'iMac update coming November' - I didn't buy the iMac.
November came and went. Then, lo and behold, Macworld! No update.
So after four years, I'm still waiting. People keep saying bite the bullet, but given that this is my first Apple computer (I have the iPhone/iPod) I want it to be the best. Top of the range, BIG white box.
I suppose the wait will make it taste sweeter when I do finally get it.
Brief story of my life with Apple ;p

Don't give in man, just don't do it! Nah but seriously if you don't care for better graphics card, ddr3 ram, probably stronger processor then go for the current models. If those things are important then you're stuck with the majority of us in waiting.

And I'm the same. Every time I had money saved up it ended up going elsewhere but this time as soon as it updates I'll be at the store to get it.

I'm willing to wait until Snow Leopard comes out. If it isn't out by then, i'll go ahead and order. At least that way i don't have to pay extra for Snow Leopard and iLife 09. I'm hoping it's out BEFORE March though.

I am probably the only one here who is glad they didn't release new iMacs yet. I had been waiting for a while and was going to purchase new until I re-evaluated my needs and decided to buy used. Found a GREAT deal on an iMac for $600 and couldn't be happier! I'm still eager to see what they come out with though.

My cut-off is March 31st. I've been looking to switch from PC to Mac since before Xmas and as I run a small web design studio I'm looking to upgrade my software to Adobe CS4 Web Premium. Adobe are allowing upgrades from Macromedia Studio MX 2004 for £523.25 until March 31st.

wait

Like allot of people, I too will wait. I was ready to buy before Christmas but now it seems silly to buy 9 month old hardware at full price. Now that could change if this computer dies, but as long as it keeps chugging along, I don't really need it now. Three things need to happen. A updated iMac shipping with iLife09 and snow leopard. I am guessing that won't be until the summer sometime. Probably looking at the back to school deals for me. But Apple will get more of my money sooner or later.

I bought my iMac in mid 2006. I still have Tiger and iLifeHD. I didn't get an urge to upgrade until about a week ago, after seeing the video for the new iLife 09. I use iMovie and iWeb quite a bit and the new features peeked my interest. And since Mac is offering iLife bundled with Leopard, I'm going to upgrade as soon as it's available to order, this month.

As far as buying a new machine, I don't have any plans to do so until I absolutely have to......

... or until my brother buys his new one in a couple months, and I want to get something bigger and better then his. ;)

The longer I wait, the longer I'm prepared to wait.

+1.

I wonder however how much money Apple is loosing on this waiting game. It seems like quite alot of ppl are holding off the purchase because of the expected update. I bet the uncertainty pisses off shareholders equally much as the customers. Now that the "God" is (hopefully) gone we might at last see some changes. Otherwise it may be a good time for a revolt LOL.

Every time I've been in the Apple Store lately I've seen people walking away with iMacs. I think we are in the minority. Most people aren't reading forums or Mac rumors sites to even be aware an update is coming.

I'm waiting until:

  1. The iMacs are updated

    OR
  2. There are refurbished iMacs available on the UK Apple store.

:\

Im still waiting but i hate it, because there is no news of when the iMacs release, we can assume maybe march because thats when they say the Mac Mini's are coming.

There don't seem to be any refurbished iMacs on the UK online store, or if there are any, I'm not seeing them.
I think they update the UK store overnight 2 or 3 times a week - you need to get up nice and early early if you want to guarantee you'll get what you're after. Whenever I've seen them they only ever seem to have one of each spec to choose from - when they're gone, they're gone!:)

When do the student sales usually start at Apple? The beginning of June? I would say that if the iMacs are only updated sometime after March, then I'd be tempted to wait just a little bit longer to get the discounts that come with the sale...

im waiting for good deals to arise for used iMacs, ive seen a 3.06ghz iMac go for $1500 and it was legit too.. and if that doesn't happen then of course i will go for the new ones..

By now I realize that there are many of you who have been putting off buying a new iMac until the next update. Everyone seems split on when to buy. So my question is how long will you wait until you upgrade? I'm looking for timelines here. Not, "I'll wait until they're updated." I'd like to know you breaking point for purchasing.

I have a 24" white iMac with a 7600GT in it meaning I have all the time in the world.

What will move me, a 27" iMac :p I have little to no reason to buy another 24", let alone when combined with the current glossy screens

I'm waiting for a Mac Pro and am hoping that Snow Leopard comes out at the same time..
