I'd been upgrading every two years. Partly because of technological advances and battery life. With my 8+ I have not felt the need to do so. I'll look at 2020's offerings and make a decision, though I am anticipating an upgrade next year.

I'm another who's still loving the mid 2012 Non Retina MBP.

I upgrade once in a while. Upgraded to an 11 from iPhone 7, still use a first gen iPad Air (waiting for an iPad Pro refresh to finally upgrade), and still use my 2010 MacBook Pro.

I went from the 6s to an 11. Definitely not the yearly upgrade type of person 😂 I could do it and it wouldn't be a financial problem...but I don't NEED to.

Which phone do you currently own?
iPhone X, 6S as my backup. I love my 6S and won’t ever get rid of it. It still works well, has a headphone jack and hopefully will get at least one more version of iOS. My X has been flawless for the past 2 years and will become my new backup when I decide to get a new phone..

Its crazy to me how everyone wishes to upgrade every year. I have an XR and my wife got an 11. I used for 3-4 days and honestly couldn't find any reason to upgrade. Sure the night camera is amazing but I can't even recall when I wanted to take a photo at night and really missed out. How long do you keep your current phones for?

I have always said the minimum for each phone is 2 years. Right now i would keep each phone for atleast 3 years, if not 4 years. All you need is an occasional battery replacement every year or two. These phones don't excite me enough anymore to justify a 2 year upgrade cycle. Unless you get it for cheap with a contract.

I’m still on my 6S, so that should tell you something. :D

The problem is usually envy, which is fueled by these youtubers talking about their new phones (which they get for free as review units) every week or so.

But after all being said, majority of consumers are keeping their phones longer, stretching the typical 2 year cycle into 3, 4 years, or even longer.

My pattern has been to upgrade every 2 years (so the odd-numbered years). The exception was 2017 because I didn't want the iPhone X but only became interested in the 8 when the Product Red version came out in 2018.

Upgraded every 2 years from the 5S (previously was 18 months). But this year is the first year i'm going into a third year with my current iPhone X. The upgrades to me aren't enough and I don't fancy a mega bill each month again for a year or so. I've just gone on a £25 a month sim only deal with my X now it's paid off.

iPhone
iPhone 3G
iPhone 4
iPhone 5
iPhone 6
iPhone 7
iPhone X

I used to upgrade every new generation (so every other year), but nowadays there's less and less of a reason to. I don't see any point in upgrading from the X to the 11 other than the wide angle camera (and night mode) which hasn't been reviewed very well. If there's a substantial redesign next year (less bezels, smaller notch, usb-c) then I'll upgrade. When phones were $500 it wasn't a big deal, but with phones now being $1100+, even though I have the means to buy one it doesn't make sense to

When I was using Android phones (2008-2014), I used to upgrade every 6 months or so. I was on T-Mobile at the time and the loyalty department was quick to give out full upgrade pricing. In 2014, I switched to the iPhone 6 and, since then, have been keeping my phones a lot longer. My iPhone timeline is 6, 6s Plus, X, 11 Pro. I was actually considering keeping the X for another year, but my wife's 11 Pro gave me serious phone envy and the $400 trade-in value for the X (not a bad deal for a 2 year old phone) made the decision to upgrade easier.

I'm still using a mid-2012 non-Retina MBP, mainly because my primary computer is a desktop PC. With a couple of upgrades (bumped the RAM up to 16GB and installed a 512GB SSD), the MBP is still chugging along fine. As much as I'd love to have one of the new MBPs, I can't justify spending over $2,000 on something that I'd use casually.
My Mac usage has fallen off a cliff since I got my iPad Pro. Maybe once or twice a month? It’s literally a “holder” for my music, photos. I don’t even know when I’ll ever upgrade my Mac maybe when the keyboard breaks. Even then I’ll just buy used.

I usually do every two years and skip the “S” models. I’ve had the 4,5,6,8 Plus, and now the 11.
Although I’ll most likely get the 12 since it’ll be an actual redesign. For some reason I couldn’t hold off getting the 11. I am loving ultra wide lens at least.

That's about how often I use mine. Its primary functions are some basic music/photo/video editing and web browsing, none of which require a late model Mac. Again, I'd love to have one of the new models, but I really don't feel that it's a financially responsible decision in my use case.

I don’t upgrade every year. However the iPhone X was an experiment for me if I could live with a smaller phone and this was not the case.

I did not like the iPhone XS Max as the difference was non existent to my iPhone X, so I waited an other year.

I will keep this iPhone 11 Pro Max for 3+ years as the screen real estate is great.

I usually upgrade yearly, do I need to, no of course not, but it's one of my few vices these days. I don't drink, don't smoke, so for the cost of a cup of coffee a day, I have a new phone. The last couple of years, I've taken advantage of Black Friday deals and it's worked out for me. I get my new iPhone, and a gift card which goes towards Christmas presents for the family. Win-win for me!

I upgrade every year. Admittedly I do like to have the latest and greatest and I can afford to do so. I do always sell the previous phone for the most I can get for it to subsidise the new one. There may not be huge differences between the Xs Max which I had before and the 11 Pro Max I have now but the Face ID and camera alone are hugely improved and that alone is enough for me.
Since monthly cost for upgrade to 11 Pro Max is identical to former XS Max my only cost is the up front tax $86 and new case $49.

I would be nuts not to upgrade under Next program. I pay half cost of phone with zero interest split monthly.
Different people enjoy different things and have different priorities. Upgrading every year is fun for me. I'm financially stable and it's a splurge I have zero regrets about doing.

^This, this, and this. LOL

I would love to upgrade every year to have the latest and greatest, but I cannot afford that, hahaha. Earlier I used to push my iPhone till it became slow and battery dies as fast it charges. Now I plan to upgrade when there is a technological leap (like 5G) and new design.

I don’t upgrade every year. Just too expensive. I upgrade when I need to or feel like.
