Other How many of you don't upgrade every year?

I got my X in May 2018. I’m upgrading to the pro because it’s cheaper with the lease to do so. I had a $20 credit for my X and it’s better to pay $12 then $40

With iPhones I usually go longer then Android.


iPhone 3GS > 4 > ( android phones between these) 6 plus > 7 > X > most likely 11 pro but maybe the max

iPhone 3GS -> 4S -> 5S -> 6S -> 8 Plus......

I'm holding on for another year. I read somewhere next years iPhone will include 3D mapping technology. How true this is, I'm not sure but for now my 8 Plus does everything I want and need for now.....I do however envy the cameras on the new 11, but it's not worth the £1k price tag for now.....

I'll wait for September next year

I Upgrade mostly every year but i feel after 11 pro max upgrade its pointless upgrading next year but we will see.

there’s no simple answer but basically if the features in the new iPhone are worth upgrading for them I’ll upgrade
A perfect example was when 4G came around or am extra 5 hours battery life

I guess if you are able to find a good deal on your year-old iPhone, upgrading every year isn't as expensive as it sounds.

I have a family of four with two teenagers so upgrades happen a good bit. Typically I will upgrade mine or my wife's phone and hand down our old phones instead of trading in. So when I upgraded to the 11 Pro Max, I gave my iPhone X to my son who was using a iPhone 6.

6 - just over 3 years
XR - 1 year so far but really want to 11 pro max so may upgrade sooner than normal. That said, every time I consider it the price tells me to stop being so stupid!

When there is a game changer. 3.5”, 4”, 4.7” screen were game changers. Then all-screen no home button design with iPhone X. Screens then were big enough and even too big. With my current X, don’t know what next game changer could be. 5G is 3 years out at least. Considering reasonably priced battery change, perhaps my future update will be driven only by loss of iOS support.

The X to XS upgrade was underwhelming to me. However, I feel like the XS to 11 Pro upgrade has definitely been game changing. The night photo mode and the third lens make for incredible pictures. The battery life is massively improved. Last night I used Google Maps for 90 minutes without the phone being plugged in and I was at 86% battery when I arrived.

That's why I like the iPhone upgrade program. After taxes and fees I pay $60 a month for my phone. If you want to keep it just pay for 2 years and you own it. If you want to upgrade you just keep paying. $60 a month is more than worth it for a person like me that enjoys upgrading.

I don’t find phones as interesting as they used to be and I’m glad I’m not losing money each year on upgrades. Whatever works for us.

I definitely agree, with me it more of a boredom thing. After a bit, I get bored easily, I'll switch phones/watches/cars/etc. just for kicks. But I'm also not one to lose money either, if I can't sell something to offset the new whatever, it's a no go.

I've been on the 2 year upgrade cycle since my first iPhone. This year will be the first time I'm going for 3. I'm expecting to upgrade next cycle unless I'm not wowed by the iPhone 12 Pro..

I'm going to try the same plan. I'm on a XS now, and hopefully I can keep up the discipline to keep it 2 more years. As of now it still looks brand new.

Yeah, worth considering but it just feels so expensive - 256gb 11 pro max is £71.50/month which feels like a fortune when added to my carrier cost. There is the offset of whatever I can sell my XR for, circa £500 I would hope given that it is a 1 week old replacement.

I used to upgrade every year, until the iPhone X, the Xs just didn’t do it for me so there was a two year gap before upgrading to 11 Pro. I’m seriously considering sticking to a two year upgrade cycle now - unless next years iPhone is so amazing I just have to have it, but I doubt that.

I am sticking with my X for another year unless I see a damn good deal to trade in AND switch carriers (I was going to switch to xfinity, receive $250 and then $400 trade in). I missed out because I was too busy and I wasn't 100% set if it was worth it. My X works fine.

I did start to see the 11 pro in public and now I regret my decision. Oh well.

I’m torn between an XR and SE2 (when released) but I rarely update because of the cost and hassle of selling the old device. I usually have a device for at least 2, sometimes 3 years.

My upgrade cycle has been;

1. iPhone 4 (second hand)
2. iPhone 5S (new)
3. iPhone 6 (new)
4. iPhone SE (new, current)

For us it's a 24 month term, but yes. If you turn in your old phone you start a new loan than is for 24 months. If you don't turn in your old phone you own it after 24 months.

It’s a shame, I think as soon as the notch-less iPhones are released in September (if rumours are accurate) the X/s and 11 models will quickly be considered outdated. I plan on selling my max before the the notch is obsoleted, I predict value to drop fast and hard on notch displays

Yeah....until they come up with a way for a camera to see clearly through a screen then there is going to be a notch or something similar. I don't see the problem personally. They could have just made the entire bezel larger like with the Google 4XL, but then that pushes your time/connectivity/battery/etc. icons further down and taking up more screen space. Nah....I'm good with a notch.

I upgraded from a 3GS to a USED 4...then to a NEW 5s...then to a USED 7...and that's my current daily. I'll probably upgrade to a USED 10 or 11 when the 13 comes out

Plan was to keep my XS Max for 2-3 years but after a couple of weeks of hearing how happy my wife was with her 11 Pro Max...I pulled the trigger.

Why was your XR replaced? I have an XS that runs out of warranty 2nd week of next month. Wondering if I could have this replaced?

I'm on my 2nd iPhone. Had a 5S, now a 7. So far, the 7 is working great on iOS 13 and my battery is still lasting for a full day of normal usage. Eventually when the battery starts getting weak I will upgrade, but no reason to upgrade now for my usage!
