I get the Itch every year either for buying a phone or a new iPad.
This year the itch for the new iPhone may turn into a festering sore if it's the price of a Laptop. Apple is slowly pricing itself out of my spending range. I refuse to pay $1800 for a phone that I use mainly for Photo's and Phone Calls.

I might as well buy myself a professional mirror-less DSLR, Get a cheaper phone that I can hear, and then buy an iPad.
The money I save from buying a new iPhone each year can be used to buy a new iPad or a new lens for the camera.

Apple needs to keep their phones under $1500 because the competition is catching up in features for less $$$. More companies are now offering a pure Android experience without the extra bloatware that Samsung and others dump on their users. I prefer the Apple iOS Apps but I can get away with using the iPad equivalent.

6 months is the longest i have kept a iPhone. But the X was expensive here and i am not going to take a big loss to go to any of those POS phones you mentioned, a 8 plus would be only choice but is old hat and a brick. Will likely keep it and get my moneys worth not really interested in a bigger X either.

POS? They might not be your cup of tea but far from POS. Would you want non Android fanboys calling iPhones POS?

I don’t know what happened between when I created this thread and recently. But now I no longer have that itch. The X is just so perfect in every which way. I felt the S9 in my hand and even that seemed too big to handle, I can’t imaging I’d like the idea of a bigger X. Also the fact that a lot of top android phones are copying X’s notch, it’s to the point I think styling-wise X will not be out of style for a long time.

I think the days of some who upgraded annually are quickly fading because of the rising costs of smart phones. And not only that, but smart phones tend to do everything they need them to for Most and it doesn’t change on a yearly basis, unless their phone absolutely needs to be replaced for something.

As far as android phones copying the notch, I think Apple is a trendsetter and they have an extreme popularity with their phones, and sometimes I see this as a gateway for other smart from competitors to mimic the iPhone in certain ways. Others may not agree with that though.

I always itch for the next top iPhone. I’ll be ready once again to replace my wife’s and iPhone. Looking forward to the X plus.

With the hardware most likely the same and iOS 12 being basically a polished version of iOS 11. Doesn’t seem to be any real itch unless you want the plus size

Good points. Hardware should be almost identical, aside from Camera and Face ID upgrades. But as you said, the real change would be with the 6.5 X Plus, which I’m sure Apple will emphasize more focus on in the 2018 Fall keynote.

I just got my X this week so I’m fine . Honestly with iPhones I’ve always kept 2 years or whatever the cycle is like this is a 18 month lease on sprint with the option to upgrade yearly

Itch just isn’t there for me this year for the first time in forever. Went fully into the X launch thinking it’d be the stopgap until the Plus version came along.

Concerns with the size and weight of a Plus model and little evidence of significant hardware changes beyond that this year push me towards the 2019 upgrade cycle instead.

My 6S+ was the first phone I kept for over 2 years. Just got the X a month ago on an upgrade promo. Unless it explodes I will keep it 2-3 years. For me, prices are getting too high to justify constant upgrades and the tech jump from year to year is not as much as it used to be to justify the cost.

I Often Have discussed that I really don’t like carrying around a larger and heavier iPhone, but I also find myself really appreciating the stronger battery life and larger display for viewing content. So it’s definitely a battle between my likes and dislikes for a larger phone. If the iPhone X 6.5 Plus offers some significant improvements over the 5.8 iPhone X in 2018, I might still consider it.

Yeah I actually was considering buying an iPhone X at launch but decided to keep my note 8 which I paid for in full so I could always sell it . Ended up getting an iPhone X this week at sprint for $20 a month on a lease . Sold my note 8 so it’s not a bad deal imho. Also love the battery life of IPhones .

I upgraded from 7+ to the X due to the smaller size. Able to use in shirt pocket again. I still have the 7+ for a backup phone on a Verizon MVNO for complementary coverage with my ATT Prepaid X.

Though the best phone for pocket usage for me was the 4. I would find it hard to go back to a 3.5" screen though.

Did you find going from 7plus to x screen was a downgrade, I have a 8plus which is great, it's just that it is big and heavy ( new X plus supposed to be same size probably heavier) so I'm thinking of getting the new 5.8 x in September

My opinion is with the weight of both iPhones, you really adjust quickly and won’t notice the weight difference between the two after using both phones for a while. But where the real advantages are, is the 5.8 iPhone X is more comfortable to hold over the 5.5 iPhone Plus. Because it’s more narrow, it makes it easier to manipulate with one hand.

I find it interesting how different people can be. I've been using the same form factor for 4.5 years (iPhone 5 2014-2016, SE 2016 - Present) and I still love it :D

The itch for me is do I try out Android or upgrade my X in November when I can :D

The X is really a love/hate relationship. I love the screen and the real estate. I got used to the lack of home button. I love the performance more so than the 6S I had (for obvious reasons Apple was gimping the 6S on purpose).

The hate is Face ID statistically is abysmal for me. It fails when I'm laying down unless I'm at the perfect angle. It fails when it's laying flat on the table (for obvious reason). It fails when you look at it sideways. However when you do look at it straight on, it works decently well.

If for whatever reason the X's successor is a disappointment in November, I might consider just keeping the phone around for playing games and still try out the Android ecosystem.

First year in a long time I am considering not upgrading. The X is great. I am sure they will come out with something that makes me reconsider that stance. However I would rather spend the same money on new Apple watches, a HomePod, and AirPods.

Barring new innovations that haven't yet been considered, the X has been the sweet spot for phones for me. Facial recognition still seems like something out of dystopian literature. (speaking of which, the new HBO Fahrenheit 451 is excellent!) It is still a pleasure to not have to worry about typing in an 8 digit alphanumeric or even getting my thumb in just the right position.

The size is also quite comfortable and the first device that feels natural manipulating with one hand. Earlier phones were too small and the Plus was too large but the X is "just right" for me. I think I will be keeping this for a couple of years despite being on the annual upgrade program. Due to initial cost, and using the HomePod more for things I used to do with my phone for, e.g., lights, locks, music, podcasts.. through HomeKit, it doesn't make sense to upgrade more than every couple of cycles. Apple.....feel free to convince me otherwise ;).

Hmmmm......just realized I could buy more HP's if I don't upgrade my phone. I wonder if I can sell that to my significant other...........o_O
