How many people's 24" iMac is still running strong?

Mine is Dead

Mine is dead. imac 24, 2007 bought in Feb 2008. May it rest in peaces at the tech for parts grave yard.
 
Mid 2007 iMac 24-inch.
Still running and using it as my main computer.
Upgraded the Hard Drive + Memory.

People nearly always comment on how good it looks and their faces when I say it is about 7 years old always makes me laugh. I doubt there are many computer manufacturers who's 7 year old device gets such a positive response.

2006 20" iMac still running strong but we took the message from Google Chrome stating that the hardware was no longer being supported as a sign that maybe it was time to replace. Purchased new 21.5" iMac yesterday.
 
I'm typing this on my mid-2007 AL 24" iMac 2.8GHz "Extreme" running OS X 10.9.3. I doubled the RAM from 2GB to 4GB several years ago and replaced the original 500GB HD with a 1TB WD Blue last summer. While this is no longer my main iMac it still feels as responsive as ever and it works perfectly well for everything I ask it to do. And as others have said, it still looks amazing. :apple:
 
My early 2008 24 inch iMac is still going. Just replaced the hard drive, but expect to get another year or two out of it. I'm surprised, but it still does a decent job running Aperture and a few plug-ins. It's been a great machine for me.
 
Mid 2007 Runs like a breeze....

...with Mavericks. Best computer I've owned. One DIY hard drive replacement several years ago and added some RAM. Keeps on humming.

My early 2008 Core2 Duo w/4gb ram is still going strong (more or less). It was really slow under 10.8.x, but 10.9.3 sped it up and it feels like it got a couple of years younger. That being said, it just doesn't have enough ram to be comfortable, and despite the fact that it runs well, it takes it's own sweet time launching apps, and even the "Save" dialog box can take 5-10 seconds to appear, although Default Folder is responsible for some of that delay.

The OEM 250gb drive died in it's 3rd year, and Applecare replaced it with a 500gb at no extra charge. It's started to run hot lately, and I have a clip-on fan behind it to help keep it cool.

I'm at the point where I'm ready to buy a new computer if the heat problem gets any worse, but I'll keep chugging away with it until the next real refresh if I can. I'm hoping they'll bring the price of the SSD down in the next gen, and if they do, a few more months with this one will be well worth it.
 
My early 2009 24" iMac is still going but I am not sure I can still say strong. I have upgraded my HDD to 2TB and created a DIY fusion with a crucial 256gb SSD in the optical bay plus upgraded to 8gb RAM. The reason I say not so strong now is lately I have been converting my blu-ray library to be compatible with my Apple TV 3 using handbrake and it is painful. Conversions take 8-12 hours and use all of the processor which cripples my iMac for anything else while Handbrake is running. I have also hit a wall with iMovie working with 1080p video and 20mp photos from my Sony RX10 and RX100 make iPhoto beach ball heaven.

That said, the iMac is the most reliable computer I have ever owned. Aside from sluggishness with HD videos and high MP photos, it does run very well. No complaints - just getting close to time that a new iMac is added to the family. Maybe later this year when the next refresh happens.
 
Still running good -

I have a Mid 2007, 24" and
my wife uses a Mid 2007, 20" (although she uses her iPad more).

Had to replace both hard drives with SSD's which really made a difference.
 
Still accepting the newest software!!

I was excited to hear that even at almost 7 years old my Mid 2007 iMac is going to be able to run 10.10 Yosemite!!

I only replaced the HDD and upgraded the ram. I'd love to find another to use as parts when this one starts to fail.

Time to start saving up for the next one!
 
Running 10.10 on my early '09 iMac, no issues whatsoever. I'm impressed that my 5 yr old iMac is running the latest OS smoothly.

yes, that's really cool! our good old 2007 iMacs will run YOSEMITE!!!
 
Still kicking. It seems to lag at times, and it makes me wonder what Mavericks is doing in the background.

It does have an annoying tendency to not wake up if FireFox is running when it sleeps. Doesn't happen all of the time, but I'd say probably 60% or higher. Annoying, but it's not my main system anymore so I deal...
 
I chose the upgraded RAM and graphics card when I bought my first Mac in 2007, with an eye to making sure it lasted a long time. It was a white 24" iMac. It is still going strong, and I am only selling it because I'm an app developer and need the latest OS X.

The screen and hard drive were replaced at the end of Applecare. They seem to be the components that age, so that might have helped with the longevity.
 
Overall mine has been reliable. Its a 24" 2.8 2008 imac. I did have to replace the power supply a few years ago, and I personally upgraded the hard drive to a 1.5tb as soon as the warantee was up. Other then that it runs strong. I might put an ssd in soon and redo the os as I cant remember the last time I installed it from scratch.
 
It's Alive!!! Rescued from recycling by a friend , gave it to me a few months back . Had to reseat the memory , and replace the hard drive with a 500g solid state ( the original drive having major issues ) , and vacuum the lint out of the guts . Took about an hour to resurrect , looks like new ... amazing what folks throw out .

For the second time in the history of my iMac the hard drive in mine unexpectedly died about a fortnight ago. I wanted to replace it with an SSD but money was tight so instead I opted for a 1TB WD Blue HDD replacing the dodgy Seagate HD. After waiting 4 days (which seemed like an eternity) I got it back, upgraded to Mavericks 10.9.3 and now everything is running just that little bit more zippy. I'm happy.
 
2008 iMac purchased refurbished from Apple in March, 2009. Hard drive and optical drive both failed at different times and were replaced under Applecare. Nvidia 8800 GS video card died in March of this year, too expensive to be worth replacing. Very disappointed in the quality of this machine, but it was beautiful when it was running. My 2001 Dual G4 Power Mac still runs like a champ.

I don't want to run iTunes 11 (no Coverflow), I don't want Mavericks and I don't want to live in the 'Cloud', so I may be parting ways with Apple at this point. I'm tired of being forced into 'upgrades' I don't want.

Sad to hear you're considering calling it quits with Apple. :(

The Nvidia 8800GS was a dud model. I'm quite surprised yours lasted as long as it did.

I'm glad I stuck with the stock ATI HD 2600 PRO. It's been rock solid in terms of reliability, but in terms of graphics performance it lies somewhere between average to okay good enough.
 
My Early 2008 3.06GHz 24" iMac died yesterday. Seems to be the curse of the 8800 graphics card as the screen is black even on boot up, but otherwise still seems to be OK as rest is working. I have previously replaced the drive with an SSD. Was running well up until yesterday, but I am not sure I want to throw more money at it and think its time to buy a 27" replacement.
 
I have an early 2008 24" 2.8 Core 2 Duo with 6 GB's RAM. This machine is fantastic, it takes a lickin and keeps on ticking. I bought this guy in 2009 from MacConnection for $1099. I replaced the HD with a 2T WD, and upgraded the RAM to 6GB's. Despite all the gloom and doom about taking one of these iMacs apart, it was a breeze. The entire process took just about an hour, and only took that long because I was extremely careful, and pondered each step for 5 or 10 minutes.:D

About a year and a half ago the screen started flickering, then going black. After 4 trips back and forth to the Apple Store they finally fixed it. New motherboard, new graphics card, new screen. It was the motherboard that caused the problem so that's all I ended up paying for. It's run flawlessly since then.:) Despite the back and forth trips (about 50 miles each way) I'm happy with the level of service I received from the Apple Store. I was treated like a valued customer.

I am lusting for a 27", guess I'll wait and see how Yosemite runs on this 6 year old baby before I retire it.
 
6 Years Later And Still Going Strong

My early 2008 24" 2.8Ghz Core 2 Duo with the original HD and 4GB DDR2 RAM is still humming. Machine is a beast! I haven't replaced any parts or had to take it in for any issues. I'm running OS X 10.9.3 without any problems and I also play Second Life & Call of Duty just fine. I use both the magic mouse and trackpad with a preference to the trackpad. I can't imagine buying a new one any time soon and with the new OS X Yosemite still being able to run on this machine I think I won't have to upgrade until Apple comes out with an OS that just won't run. Even then, I could fall back 1 or 2 builds before being forced to upgrade. I am thinking of upgrading the RAM to 6GB via Crucial's matching pair of 2GB & 4GB sticks. Not sure about the HD though. Any thoughts on whether an upgrade would help? I guess I could go SSD, but I've never been one for the latest and greatest.

I never knew the 24" had two different graphics cards. I thought all of them were packing the ATI Radeon HD 2600 Pro 256MB.
 
Not quite a 24 inch iMac, but I do have a testament as to how long apple products can last.
My late 2006 20'' is on it's last legs, but I have to give it credit where credit is due. It has been running for 8 years, moved several times (in which it has not been handled well, poor thing) and just in general been a great machine. Unfortunately due to a failing HDD (it has been failing for 1 year now, not sure what to think?) It will be retired, but I will truly miss this machine.

And to think people say Apple products are unreliable.
