Some people are not very happy about Apple shifting towards the consumer electronic market by the number of these posts per week. It doesn't do you much good defending Apple or yelling into the Apple abyss. The stonewall approach to releases is okay for consumer goods, but it's a real pain in the ass if you are trying to budget your money and plan projects. It's a real disservice to anybody who depends on their machines. If you can't do what you need to do with your current machine, then you need to find something that will work. How long you are willing to wait is up to you. If the machine comes out, you just have to ask yourself if you are willing to put up with the guessing game the next time you need a machine down the road. Seems like a real pain in the ass to me. I personally can't seem to justify the price at the current spec, while many people seem to find it reasonable. You aren't going to be able to put people in your shoes one way or another. It's a waste of time.

Eventually they're announce something.

Stop making threads about it./QUOTE]

uhhh . . . no, but hey, thanks for the suggestion.

I guess whatever it takes to make you feel better. These threads are the internet equivalent of a spoiled child's tantrum, except sometimes a tantrum actually accomplishes something.
They are really repetitive ,tiresome and boorish.

But do continue to vent your spleen,it costs nothing.

Not defending the plethora of posts on the same subject matter. But just wanted to state everything has a cost - energy, time, etc... Hell even thought is not free when it comes down to it -- Food for thought lol

Video editors? I do that for a living and have for many years. Video editing has zero to do with processing power. I can edit just as quickly on my 6-core at work as I could on a macmini. I know, because I have done it. If you are talking about transcoding (usually things an asst editor deals with) or heavy motion graphics I get it but for editing, anything over a 4-core is overkill.

If you're using Final Cut Pro 7, that's because FCP can't see multiple cores. If you're rendering or using multicam on a Mac Mini vs. a Mac Pro using Premiere on the other hand...

This. FCP7 was such a bad bad application for Mac Pros.

Meantime, FCPX is fully optimized for the Mac Pro. Kind of ridiculous when you think about it, really...

Unfortunately, I'm not confident enough to take you up on that bet....

It's cool, but yea, it really does seem like Apple could get their hands on that kind of stuff and not do anything about it at all. At CES they were showing off Thunderbolt graphics cards yet they had to use it in Windows because there is no support for anything like that at all in OS X. If Apple were to get FO Thunderbolt it'd probably only be used for faster iPad syncs.

Once upon a time... not so long ago... I think Apple Computers could have done some amazing things with FO TB. But of course they've de-emphasized the Computer side a bit ;). And fair enough. I can't fault them for that... I think they are actually getting it right... that the majority of people don't need more and more amazing features on their desktop computers. They just need them to work and to connect seamlessly to all of their mobile devices. However, for those of us who would like to see amazing things happen with our desktops systems it is a bit disappointing... but we are in the minority I think.

Yes, it is a relatively small market, and it demands more resources to keep alive 'n kickin' than Apple seem to be willing to put into it.

- Regular hardware upgrades with roadmaps for planning.
- Keep the software as compatible as possible with different hardware solutions. Have good support to 3rd part professional hardware/driver developers.
- Let professional systems get new features aimed at professional use. Like the the FO TB, 10 Gb ethernet, better integration of multi-GPU processing, 4K-dispplay support etc. Not just features dripping down from the mobile device development (which is todays bleeding edge)

I am not an optimist here, no matter if we get a new MacPro already tomorrow.

A similar trend can be seen at professional camera systems. The traditional professional cameras Canon DX and Nikon D4 are great systems. Excellent build quality, weather sealed, fast image processing, etc.
But they are huge, heavy and rather expensive and many pros use the semiprofessional cameras (Canon 5D and Nikon D700/800) more and more.

Serious? That puts the comments about FCPX by the pro whiners into perspective.

It doesn't really put anything in perspective. They were complaining about features needed to maintain a functional workflow. FCPX is inexpensive, but it was lacking features that were deemed necessary, and given that it was a very new application, you couldn't really fill in with plugins or other well integrated applications. The only thing really addressed there was better usage of all available cpu cores under FCPX. People complain when Adobe is slow or OSX versions fall behind Windows on features, but they had already addressed similar problems.

So do I. For everything. I'd be very happy with a GTX670, 680 thank you. Even a 7950 at a decent price would suffice.

----------

Of course. Was just pointing out some people are still buying them. Doom and gloom aside. 2010 Mac Pro's still get work done and still run OS 10.6. The single most beneficial thing to extend the life would be a fast Nvidia option. Most (not all, of course) but most users are still not CPU bound. Maybe data but I doubt it.

The reviews don't seem to suggest any massive leaps. I did note that the 7950 is available with way more vram. That might be of use to the OP for his work.

Oh, you mean like the last revision? Us smart people don't count 2009 because it was a joke update. Performance for dollar 2008 blew 2009 out of the water. Between the 2008 and 2010 offerings it was 699 days. See, do you want a joke update every year or do you want a real update very soon?

They aren't waiting just for the **** of it. They are waiting for a GOOD Xeon upgrade. Forget everything else. Tell me ohh masterful one, show me the lineup of procs you would suggest and the pricepoints based on current Apple models that could happen a few months ago. I don't want to hear about thunderbolt, I don't want to hear about graphics cards, what procs should be in these systems that Apple is just ripping us off on?

In 2009 they kind of stripped the hardware down in its base configuration (single quad processor was a cto downgrade), but if your software doesn't scale well with high core counts a 2009 is still a better option. Unfortunately I don't think they're going back to the pre-2009 pricing model. It's likely that we'll still see a quad as the base model. If we're really unlucky they'll keep a $3500+ price tag on the slowest 6 core.

True, those were valid concerns, but it seems, to me, that a lot of people jumped onto that bandwagon with the insistent whine of, "Apple does not care about pro users". Rewriting the application to make better use of multiple cores suggests that Apple does indeed care about the market.

Very Sad

After reading all the recent hype on new MacBook Pros, and iMac Benchmark scores I am 99.9% certain the Mac Pro is dead. Sadly, I will configure my new HP 820 workstations today.

Oh, it ain't dead yet, there will be another one. It's just that they will call it iMac Pro ;)

Then I am also certain to 93.293819 percent, that the Mac mini and MacBook Air will be discontinued.

In other words, just because there have been no benchmarks leaked for the MP, does not mean, that it is DEAD.

And finally a very descriptive thread title.

Don't know if you noticed, but there hasn't been any creditable rumors on the Mac Pro. Not one. Zip! No, I'm done. playing Apples silence, keep them guessing games. I'm moving on, and already feel better about doing so. I have a business with real business needs, and don't have the time or desire to be combing threads all day long in hopes of finding a bone, or two. Bye Apple, and good luck to everyone else waiting.

Don't let the door hit you on the way out. Now we don't need to see your inane bantering anymore. peace.

Ya, well the door is hitting a lot of other people on the way out as well! At least I'll be getting my work done on time! It's time to face reality here, and just do what needs to be done! Like I said, have fun waiting while I make money pumping out work!

Relax man. Here is some good news from cult of mac and other sites

Every single machine has been reduced in price, and while most discounts aren’t astounding, the extra $100-$200 saved on a new MacBook, iMac, Mac Mini, or Mac Pro, might be enough to entice customers who can’t wait another minute for a new Mac.

The Mac Pro is being discounted as well. Seems like there will be refreshes galore for EVERYBODY.

Who can make some educated guesses on which SB Xeon chips the Pros will use so I can start looking at geekbench results and hopefully cheer up Tony?

Actually with record breaking quarters I think the are welcoming more than are leaving.

E5-1620, E-1650, E5-1660 replace what are in the uni-processor Mac Pro.

The 2GHz 6-core E5-2620 replaces the ones in the base dual processor model.

Then either 2.5GHz 12-core and 2.6GHz 16-core (E5-2640s and E5-2670s and what I think likely) or 2GHz 16-core replacing the 2.66GHz 12-core and then anything faster than that for the top spot.

That's just based on what they have done over the past 3 years. We could see a return to the really top processors with high TDPs or more options, or less. The E5-1660 is kinda redundant as the E5-1650 is barely slower but costs like $500 less. If they make some big changes then anything is possible I guess.

I don't know what the situation is like elsewhere, but in the UK none of the normal retailers have these chips in stock (something dodgy in Germany is willing to send me one though, apparently). There also don't seem to be any reviews of workstations with the single socket chips. Perhaps the predictions of the sky falling on our heads were premature?

Here are some reviews that I am finding (seriously, click the links to see my point)

Keep making up facts. My 400 person company is switching from mostly PC to 100% mac. In the past, only the designers were on Apples, now everyone will be. Apple has been selling more and more machines every single year.

And BTW, I am getting my job done fast. So fast I have enough time to argue with you on the internet.

Ya fought they are Mac Pros. The Mac Pro is the only I can use for animation.

So your whole company is going to switch to windows, buy all new software, etc? What did you use 4 years ago to animate genius? Is this super slow computer you bought in 2010 crap now but it was the shizzit back then? Come on dude. I was dealing with uncompressed 8-bit on a G4 12 years ago. Sorry your renders are taking you so long. I used to have 3 second pieces take 8 hours. This whole instant gratification thing is moronic. Maybe your company should invest in a render farm...

And PS... IT'S BILLABLE TIME!!!!

PSS... if you stopped posting on the internet maybe you would get some work done.

Yes it's ridiculous, I've got tired of hearing it. People took that Intel launch date to mean that Macs would be imminent, when all it meant was Intel had launched their processor. That Dell haven't listed theirs, Lenovo aren't shipping until June and Apple have said nothing says a lot about Xeon and chipset availability.

End of the day they will come or they won't and a lot of the posts here now are approaching insanity and offer nothing. Nothing is different in Apple's behaviour really.
