No, Absolutely not. I just want people to understand the reasons I'm leaving. I really do love Apple products, and if the new machines were out, or even really close to reality, I would jump at them. Fact is it's been nearly two years without so much as a beep, and most everything seems in my opinion to be pointing to EOL. If someone could offer up anything that shows different, I would consider that for sure, but this silence after two years is really getting old. Anyway, good luck to all of you waiting for a new Mac Pro, and I will probably keep one of my 2008 dual quads just for modeling since Lightwave is 100% cross platform compatible.

It's been nearly two years for every workstation on the market.

Seriously, stop pigeonholing Apple with this.

Why have these threads not been closed?

Seriously... All this stress and BS over Apple releasing or not releasing a computer in a time frame you feel fit?

I seriously hope they delay it more. I hope all of you pessimistic babies jump ship, spend all your dough reconfiguring your work space, only to see the next model drop with specs that far exceed your expectations... And Dells.

It is really sad that we have multiple 6+ page threads over speculation over the death of the mac pro... Boo Hoo.

I think you're stressing yourself out too much over this. I am 100% positive that there will be a 2012 Mac Pro.

I'm 100% positive too ... because it is 2012 and I can buy a Mac Pro today. That's enough to qualify, right? :D

OTOH, the underlying concern is the uncertainty regarding when an update may drop in 2012 for a new & improved Mac Pro.

Personally, my current rig is now down to <30GB free ... again, so it is time to do some more clean-up, rather than go through the time/effort/money of yet another upgrade to its storage systems -- which would be frustrating to do just immediately prior to it being replaced, since that's an inefficiency that's preferably avoided.

And why would I care? I am interested in discussing when or if a new Mac Pro may be released. I am interested in what that Mac Pro may or may not include. But I gotta tell ya... I'm not really interested in whether someone (you or anybody else) is or is not actually using a Mac Pro.

Your reasons for using - or not using - a Mac Pro are not relevant to my decision to use - or not use - a Mac Pro. Nor to my decision to wait - or not wait - for a Mac Pro announcement.

You actually seem to have some good reasons for using a Windows system. So.. go and use it. But please don't come here looking for validation for your decision. Move on. And - (seriously) - good luck.

Again, Hp is actually shipping now. The build to orders take about 7-9 days! that miles ahead of where Apple is right now.

So they are actually going to physically ship your HP workstation with no backorders/Pre-orders once it gets built?

Someone said they were shipping HP Workstations last month too, but that got delayed.

Seems like they are the only ones doing so with the new Xeons.

Not sure what all the excitements all about. Intel Xeons were delayed causing ALL the workstations to be delayed.

If your running a business that depends on getting work done, just don't see the problem with buying the most updated Mac Pro thats available at the time.

Business, companies & enterprise is not about getting the latest and greatest hardware/software but getting something thats secure, stable & reliable. That often means getting hardware/software a generation out. Many reasons why it takes them a longer period of time to change with new technology.

Do you really want your business to be a testing ground with something thats unproven and untested?

Must be hard for people desperate for a new mac pro, only to see tons of macbook pro news being plastered on the front page.

I reckon if they announce the mac mini before saying anything about the mac pro we are gonna see some suicides around here lol!

Why have these threads not been closed?

Because it's a rumor forum and we are trying to show interest and maybe encourage a leak or two. If you don't like reading them, post somewhere else.

Yes it really is and the news about imacs etc. Whether you realize it or not it is a snub. Many of the late rumors are controlled leaks.

So whats the new innovation in the box with slots, whether you believe it or not there is nothing to leak, it's a mid tower workstation that runs OSX not any different that the same thing that runs Windows..this is the wrong fouum sycophancy head to the MBP or iMac forum for that..

Partially true. In that time though, they could have been updating prices, putting in more ram (3gb of ram? Come on, 3gb?), updating the graphics cards, and on and on. Other companies do this. It is not just about the CPU.

Of course, I know Apple doesn't work this way. I don't really know why, one can only assume they are just sort of hostile to their customers in a way.

You'd buy your RAM from the OEM? please remind me of this if I ever do try to do business with you…You are too unwilling to work if you spec from your OEM

Don't be ridiculous. Of course I don't buy additional RAM from anyone other than places like crucial, NewEgg, etc. The point is that it should be coming with AT LEAST 8 gigabytes for a 2500 dollar base price. Or are you happy paying 2500 dollars for an 800 dollar machine? 3GB is a complete insult. There is no reason to not update that aspect of the machine.

I seriously can't believe the lengths people go to to defend Apple here. Talk about Stockholm syndrome.

I was just being sarcastic. :)
Ah, OK.

Seen it before, and it was a serious IIRC.

Depends on how you want to do it.

Option 1:
Get the storage system sorted, then just transfer it to the new system (assumes it won't require Herculean efforts in terms of locating and installing adapters and such to fit the new internals if applicable). Thus making the system change that much faster/easier (also assumes the boot volume is not part of the primary storage volume, which IIRC, you don't do - OS is separate).

Option 2:
Put in all of the time at once, and upgrade to a new system and storage re-configuration simultaneously.

Both have their merits, but Option #1 allows you to space out both your time and budget (i.e. storage system upgrades + new system = OUCH at the level you're using IIRC).

Why would this encourage a leak? Leaks are to cause buzz. Already seems to be enough buzz around the new Mac Pros, otherwise we wouldn't have these threads.

I highly doubt a 3D artist, which has never been the Macs biggest strength, who has a grand total of 2 Mac Pros, is going to make a difference at all.

Or better yet, buy one of the "superior" competitive machines, and learn a little about what really constrains user productivity and satisfaction. Hint: it's not the CPU.

I definitely prefer OSX, but Windows is a super fast OS. Pretty sure "Windows sucks" was your implication.

I wish people would just stop the silliness in regards to this vs. that. We are here because we are fans of Apple (I hope). We don't need to trash competition, especially when pretty much all of the competition makes great stuff. Do you have to like it? No. But these other companies such as MS and Google make awesome tools as well, and that's all we should be looking for in the Mac Pro thread. Great tools. These aren't aspirational purchases, where if we have a Mac we have some bizarre geek, or creative, cred.

Windows is really quite fantastic at some things. Time for people to deal with this.

First off, I'll go where ever I damn well please. Second, I came here looking for advice and information on the mac pro, and things to do to make it better/faster...

Not to listen to a bunch of grown men whine like little children because daddy took your toy away.

Seriously, there are 14 threads on the first page alone about the same exact ****ing topic.

It is hard to take anything you have to say seriously, when you can't even realize how dumb you look even attempting to discuss this topic at length in any number of these threads.

Get over yourself and your superiority complex.

Not buying right now, and what does it matter how much comes in it I'm going to replace it anyway. Currently it's 3GB that goes in the drawer vs 8GB thats not a bad thing. I also really don't do "defend Apple" they're all big boys that make more money than me they can defend themselves.

Last time I checked Dell and HP also supply their workstations with 3 GB of RAM. It's got nothing to do with defending apple.

My new HP Workstations I ordered today are super fast configurations, with 16 gigs of ram, and 3 year warranty including tax for $7395.12. This is a 16 core 2.7 gig machine with an AMD firepro V7900 with 2 gigs of ram! I think thats a fair price for a top flight workstation, and what do you know it's shipping now!
