I think smart phones have plateaued on features, so Apple is now refining, which I'm fine with as my phone does everything I want it to. Don't care about News or Apple Music, but WaLet will be useful

I think Apple need to get away from this Big Bang annual release thing, and drip feed enhancements when they're ready, like third party apps do.

This was actually a more feature-rich update than I was expecting, but I frequently use Notes, Apple Pay, and am looking forward to the spotlight and siri features. I was really expecting almost all under-the-hood stuff with a few things to show off like Transit and Apple Music.

7/10. I'm satisfied with it. iOS is already fantastic, so performance improvements are great, but I'm definitely not blown away by anything. But then again, I can't think of any killer features that they could add anyways.

What exactly in your mind is a major update may I ask?

iOS 1 to 2 to 3 to 4 to 5 to 6 to 7 were relatively major updates. Everything since then has just been incremental updates/tweaks/refinements. iOS is not something that can be updated every year, hence why each new release since iOS 5 has been full of bugs & issues and due to lack of software engineers, Apple can't work fast enough to implement anything 'major'.

iOS 8 was probably one of the bigger iOS releases as far as what it opened up and allowed, and it's not even on that list. 5 to 6 was barely that much of a change in comparison.

Agreed. I think 8 was one of the biggest updates they've done, and like I mentioned earlier, it took them a little while to catch up to the ways it changed iOS. I think both 7 and 8 were huge updates, and 9 is stepping back to something more along the lines of 5 and 6.

It doesnt have to be major update for Apple to give us the option to customize the phone a bit. Why does apple have to tell us what options we can have in Control Center? Why cant there be an option to remove the CC and NC tabs on the lockscreen? Why do we have to arrange the app icons/folders the way Apple wants us to? Having options that include what I just stated, is a major update to me. Not the way Siri looks, or that I get a few free articles now from the NY Times. For me, JB'ng my phone allows me to give my phone the feel of a major update, but Id rather just have those options, and not JB my phone at all.

iOS9. Widgets allowed on homescreen yet ?

I gave the iPhone 6 Plus a solid 2 month try last winter, was a nice device, but iOS8 handcuffed it. Too many limitations, and zero customization. You couldn't even move app icons to anywhere on the screen, kept springing back up top in a row, next to another app icon. WTF that's inanely old school stupid. I should be able to place an app icon, anywhere on the screen I want in the year 2015.
Software keys like stock Android, and all Windows Phones. I missed the back button big time. If iOS had software navigation keys, that would help a lot.

Oh well, Apple will take another 5 years to add needed software features.

BUT they didn't announce everything! They're gonna announce a lot of cool stuff at the iPhone event. Like force touch...

I give it 7 or 8 ... very stable Beta and all apps are working on my side

May I ? ;)
- Revamped Calendar app : A full month view like TinyMonth would be nice
- More control center settings
- Mail : see your responses in thread view (like Mac Mail App)
- Mail : Stop creating text attachement when attaching a pic !
- More freedom in the interface (Grouping/blanks/Size)
- Define default apps (Outlook for mail, Chrome for WWW, etc.)
- Define custom "open in" not only the one Apple/Dev allows
- GeoFence WiFi + Priority
i could go on for a long time but people might suggest me to get an Android :D

9 out of 10. iOS already does everything I need it to, so all these enhancements and additions are just icing on the cake. I also understand that my personal wish list isn't what Apple uses to develop their products and services, so that keeps my expectations in line.

I concur. Can't wait for the final release, especially if the performance and battery life features /claims are true.

I give it a 5/10. Not great but not terrible. I, like many others, was expecting more from this roll out and walked away feeling...meh. The new features will be great but the fact that the new features are limited to just a few core things I think is what didnt sell me on it.

Honestly, I was hoping that they were going to further the app-to-app integration like they started with iOS8 so that you could have a more seamless experience with all of your apps.

  • Improved Siri will be a good thing since I have to scream into my phone just to get her to do something simple.
  • The new features for notes will be nice to use
  • I hardly use spotlight as it is and now, having two ways of accessing it makes me want to use it even less. I know its useful but I find it gets in the way but thats just me
  • Transit info in maps - useful if you are in or live in a big city. If youre like me and live in BF nowhere...whoop dee freakin do to transit info
  • Power save mode will be a nice touch, although I would have preferred that they provided some more granular control over WHAT is turned off for this feature.
  • Bummed that there is STILL no dark mode. Gray mode does not count.
  • I would have hoped that they would have allowed for 3rd party apps on the lock screen when responding to messages. Also would have liked to have seen the ability to respond to 3rd party messaging apps FROM the lockscreen (i.e. whatsapp, messenger, etc...)
  • An icon for iCloud drive....umm...yeah...whoo? I really want to like iCloud drive but it is still so damn limited in terms of what it is capable of. I'll stick with my terabyte of dropbox.
  • I know I'm not the only one who is begging for the ability to set default apps. I can do the same thing on OS X without issue. Why cant I do it on my iPhone?
  • I was REALLY hoping that they were going to announce a faster camera loading speed than the Galaxy S6. I've played with one at a T-Mobile store and the load time on the camera is stupid fast. I think the load time is less than half of a second. Just ridiculous. Compared to that, the load time for the camera on the iPhone is an eternity.
  • Ability to delete never used default apps would have been nice...

I suppose some of that could be reserved for iOS 10 much in the same way that we will finally get full, system wide UI customization. I'm kind of done holding my breath for "mind blowing" features. Honestly...yesterday was the first time I've EVER considered going to Android...

I see the promise of a refined UI. If Apple gets this right, it might be the calm before the storm (assuming iOS 10 will be a major release/redesign again and the bugs that will go with it).

On a scale 1-10?
I will give it a 9. Battery saving features and it being supported by all old devices makes me know that apple is listening to us and know people still have old devices.

They're only supporting existing iOS 8 devices because iOS 9 is more of a minor update. I'd give it a 5/10 mainly because of the new multitasking features, but even then it's only supported on the iPad Air 2.
