iPhone 11 on iOS 14.3 region Switzerland (de-ch)
There is no toggle to disable headphone notifications like you got on you iPhone.
I think the notification and the volume adjustment are linked
It always says "Diese Mitteilungen können nicht deaktiviert werden"
->These notifications cannot be turned off

Mine looks like yours ( from Sweden)

why is this inconsistent? i had the toggle in 14.2, and it's still there in 14.3. can't figure out why everyone in 14.3 isn't getting that option... (but i guess i should consider myself lucky that i can switch it off)...
I've had the toggle the whole time too. I was a bit worried when updating to 14.3 but it's still there which was a relief. I'm in Phoenix but I wouldn't think the region would matter in the U.S.

just wondering why everyone in the US doesn't have the toggle (or do they??). anyway, i get the frustration of anyone who can't turn that off...

I agree, a member in another thread said they had the toggle too but had to restore the phone for a different issue and after the restore the toggle was gone. Hopefully not having the toggle is a bug and will be fixed in a future update

Found this on apple website.

The reason some of you have the toggle and others dont has to do with whether your reset your iPhone after 14.2. If you did an in place upgrade, you still have the option to turn this off. Once you have to reset your phone and restore, you lose it.

I found this out the hard way since my 12 pro max came with 14.1 and the first thing I did was update and then erase it. Then did a restore from my 11 pro max. The 11 still had the toggle so I wiped that one, once it came back up, the toggle was gone.

I did confirm this with apple support. Once you have to restore, you lose the ability to turn this off.

The awful thing is since it treats a BT speaker or any BT car device this way too, it is not just headphones. It has NO idea how loud you are really playing anything. It guesses and then drops your volume. I have had to resort to clearing the device data each day and running the phone at 1/2 volume when using my BT speaker, which slows down how fast my "quota" fills up

For me, this is the dumbest most annoying thing Apple has done in a while. There are too many variables in content and receiving device volume for your phone to really know the actual DB level going to your ears. And what about people with hearing issues? It would be fine if it was just a notification, but the fact that it drops your volume is absolutely ridiculous. I can be listening to a podcast in the shower with my BT speaker with the phone in another room and it will just drop it. It isn't like I have it loud either.

I’d argue this “new” feature is way worse than the previous “volume limit” feature in iOS 13 and older. It does not analyse the music properly like, most of the time. The result is music volume got randomly lowered and raised in the middle of the playback. Extremely inconsistent and annoying. Volume limit just reduce the max sound level proportionally. Simple. Require no computation power and effective. Apple keeping reinventing the wheel is beyond me.

I can confirm exactly what mfrank29 has stated as the same thing happened to me. Received iphone 12 pro for wife and 12 pro max for me. On upgrade from iphone 7 plus to 12 pro max did reset and immediately lost volume limit toggle. For iphone 7 plus upgrade on 12 pro did NOT reset and toggle still there. Both phones are now at 14.3 and pro (no reset) toggle still there, max, toggle still off. This is absolutely insane as now the only workaround is to constantly go and reset the health entries! What's worse is that my wife has SEVERE hearing loss (wears the strongest hearing aids available) and NEEDS to have volume very high to hear at all. Thankfully she has the pro with the toggle still available but I fear it will eventually go away too which will really suck. I have reported this to apple like I know many of you have done but got nothing from them at all. MANY people are hard of hearing and need to remove their hearing aids to listen to airpods or other buds and this limitation completely ignores them. Please apple, let US determine what is safe and not safe!

there must be more to this than a simple apple decision, since some of us have the toggle, and some don't. am grateful to have it (left 'off'), but still wondering what the issue is; if it were a bug, wouldn't everyone have the problem? and, if intentional... wouldn't, still, everyone have the issue?

If it something that potentially depends on a fresh install and also something that applies regionally, then it seems like some variation wouldn't be surprising.

I can’t turn it of and I never restored or reset my iPhone 11. I also tried to set region to USA and switch to english. Also turned location services off. Even after a cold boot, still no toggle. My main issue is also car audio. This can’t be by law. Maybe a message but not automatically turn down the volume! Do Android devices have this too?

That is wrong. My phone did this as soon as I received it.

I live in the USA. My wife and I purchased the iPhone 12 Pro Max 512gb phone. The only difference is hers is blue and mine is gold. We are both running 14.3. Her phone has the ability to turn off the notification and mine does not. We purchased at the same time, had them shipped at the same time and activated them at the same time. This is OBVIOLUSLY NOT regional. Unless you are claiming one part of my house is in a different region then the other! LOL I do NOT listen to my headphones loud enough to have this happen. It happens every time I listen to music in my car or over bluetooth speakers.

I believe it is the law and that’s why it can’t be turned off. I believe all devices will have to implement this feature eventually.

What law is that? And why would there be a toggle at all for something that supposedly can't be turned off?

What is everyone freaking out about? I'm in Califas, with what I believe a pretty good amount of regulations, and if such regulation would be applied anywhere it probably wouldn't skip my area.

Try disabling the Headphone Audio Levels measurement? /settings/privacy/health/headphone audio levels?

Edit: iPhone 12 Pro Max 14.3 for reference.

I'm still waiting on another reply to mine - but I'm very surprised that no media outlet or MR themselves haven't questioned anything about this. I'm happy for them to introduce safety - but i've been living without this feature for almost 11 years now - so let me decide if I want to continue to live with it or whether I want it to be turned down. And yes, it's an absolute pain when it does it in the car!!!

i have ios14.3 on an iPhone7 in the US and found the defalult setting asserted = OFF but still able to toggle it ON/OFF. I have had the battery swapped out and done regular reset this iPhone several times in both ios 14.2 and 14.3

I found a way to force disable the Headphone Safety feature but it requires Jailbreaking the iPhone.
Like you guys, after reseting my 1st gen iPhone SE on 14.3, the switch to toggle the HS feature was replaced by the stupid graph.

I am no jailbreak guru at all; just a frustrated guy who, as a last cry before switching to Android, decided to explore the jailbreaking world and tried to hack his iPhone which, surprisingly worked. This morning I've been able to listen to my audiobook in my car, with volume at max for a good 30-45min.

So here's what I've done:
Jailbreak iPhone

Using checkra1n exploit, it was a piece of cake to Jailbreak. Unfortunately this method does not work with any of the iPhones 11, 12 and SE 2nd gen. There seems to be this Zylon way of Jailbreaking newer devices on which I can't comment.

• To use checkra1n, you'll need a mac
• Download checkra1n's DMG file and copy the app to Applications folder
• Attach your phone to the mac using a USB-A cable (won't work with USB-C)
• Open checkra1n app and follow on screen instructions

Install a file manager

• Once device has successfully been jailbroken, open the checkra1n app installed on your iPhone
• Choose the option to install Cydia (for those who don't know, Cydia is the App Store for jailbreak stuff)
• Open Cydia from home screen or app Library
• You'll probably be prompted to install updates. I think you can choose to install them, but personally I ignored them.
• Click on the search icon in the bottom right and search for filza
• Choose Filza File Manager, and click install and confirm
• You should now have Filza app installed (it's a blue icon)

A very simple modification to make

• Open filza app
• I'm not sure what's the default folder you'll be in on first load but you can use the arrow in the upper left side to go to parent folder. Go back as far as you can (until you get in the root, / folder).
• From there navigate to User > Library > Preference
• Click on the file com.apple.coreaudio.device.plist
• With the file opened, click on Root and click on the i icon beside the item HAENFeatureMandatory
• Change the value to NO and hit back
• In the upper left corner hit Save, then Done in the upper left.

Reboot

With the checkra1n exploit, every time you reboot, your device becomes unjailbroken. To preseve it, you need to reboot it using checkra1n app on your mac. From my experience, the modification remains even if I rebooted in non-jailbroken (normal) mode.

Now if you go in your sound settings, the option to turn headphone safety off should be back and working.

Like I said, I'm no expert so you try this at your own risk. Do backup before!
