any idea as to where to find the codes or identifiers that i can type in for NES to put in the "special" section to hide it. i was able to find the recorder and the light off info, but not any others...thanks for any help

They are in *.app/Info.plist

Example:
Code:
	<key>CFBundleIdentifier</key>
	<string>com.jason.zune2</string>

Does using installer.app still "jailbreak" the phone?

AFter you jailbreak, can you un-jailbreak without having to restore the phone?

Does this mean you have to restore the phone prior to all apple firmware upgrades?

:)

It jailbreaks the phone. Steps to install firmware update:

1. Sync with iTunes.
2. Restore.
3. Apply hacks again.

All text messages and contacts and such will be saved, the only thing you'll lose is the hacks.

do you apply the new firmware upgrade after you do step 2 (restore)?

assuming you have downloaded the firmware upgrade already, when you restore it will apply it to the phone in the restore. I don't have an iphone atm but i just assume thats how it will work based on my experience with apple products

Correct. When you hit "Restore" it will download the new firmware and install it.

when i enter my ip address and the root and dottie and then connect it say:

NETWORK ERROR: CONNECTION FAILED
CONNECTION REFUSED

Did you set it to SFTP and port 22? Is your computer on the same LAN as your router?

I think one of the mods should make this a sticky, there is so much useful information in here for anyone that is beginning to start modifying their phone I dont want it to get lost in the endless useless posts.

I don't doubt it's easy. But it's still a hack. Which I won't do to my iPhone. I didn't even mind the "complicated" instructions that were out there when they first got going. I'll do it once it's actually not a hack. Which may very well be never.

then you will not have fun with your iphone..
no apps , no background etc etc...

bod-a-bing! stickyfied. Thanks mods.

Everyone can now search this thread on the methods of installing installer.app, adding NES roms, using SSH and cyberduck, and more without having to search through this section to find it :D

I've been really intrigued by native iPhone applications for awhile now, but haven't tried any due to fear of bricking my precious iPhone. Is this something I really need to be concerned with at this stage of the game? Have developers become adept enough at building stable, reasonably risk-free applications? I haven't heard any horror stories, but I'm still nervous.

I personally have never heard a report of anyone bricking their iPhone due to an application. The most I have ever had to do if an app freezes or something, is hold down the home+power and wait for the connect to itunes message, and then restore the phone and start my mods over

but that has only happened to me once because i forgot to restart my phone after i installed an alpha lvl app. But yes, I have restored after both the iTunes update, and iPhone 1.02 update, started from scratch, just like I had never done anything each time and modded to my likeing, there is really no risk.

The only risk I have heard of is using the wrong version of AppTapp installer if you have v7.4 of iTunes, or using iFuntastic. But if you use the correct AppTapp installer which is clearly labeled you will have no problem and not believe how simple it is and easy. The application does everything for you.

You will be downloading apps within 5 mins guarnteed. Follow my instructions in the original post and you will be perfectly fine.

medical applications

Do you know if there are medical applications (epocrates or others) that can be installed on the iPhone?

Well, I've hacked a few of my other phones but was a bit scared to do so on my $600 (minus $100store credit :D) iPhone. I just downloaded Installer.app and it's awesome! Very easy and no troubles whatsoever....so what are you top 5 favorite apps???

And also, is there a way to rearrange the icons on the screen??? I downloaded BSD subsystem and don't want it, now do I uninstall it??? Where can I find springboard cause I'm using summerboard but every1 says springboard is better. Sorry to ask so many questions and ramble on....

You can uninstall apps by going into the Install.app program and then clicking the uninstall tab. Springboard is the default "launcher" for your iPhone. It's what comes with the iPhone, and you have to use it. Summerboard is an extension of that and lets you scroll through your apps, as well as change themes and certain options. I think you might've gotten the two confused. Summerboard is awesome, download it through Install.app.

yeah, I was confused on the springboard/summerboard and got all that figured out as well as how to move around the icons on the screen with rsbt. But on the BSD subsystem info page, where the uninstall button (top right) normally is, it just says reinstall :(

Whoa...ok. Looks like some questions need to be cleared up.

First off, BSD subsystem is essential to many applications available to download, and if you ever want to SSH onto your phone you need this. Why wouldnt you want it?

Springboard is like the "desktop" for you iPhone, it is just the name of the homescreen as designated by the files found on the iPhone.

Summerboard, is an app which modifies your springboard to enable it to scroll/add wallpaper etc...

To uninstall apps, go back into installer.app. There is a tab across the top which says uninstall....pretty straight forward, Im not sure why it only says reinstall for BSD subsystem, maybe because one of your other apps uses it and it is needed for them to function.

The easiest way to rearrange icons is to use the rSBT app. Simply move the apps up or down on the list to position them.

A list for native apps can be found here:

Having trouble taking screenshot via SSH in Terminal...

1. Put this file in /bin
2. Install OpenSSH and BSD Subsystem with Installer.app if you haven't already done so. Restart your iPhone.
3. Open the terminal on your Mac and do ssh root@10.0.1.189 but obviously put your iPhone's IP address ... it may take a few seconds and you might have to type "yes" before you can type the password which is "dottie" ... once you're logged in...
4. chmod +x /bin/screenshot
5. Then get to the screen you want to take a screenshot of on your iPhone, and just type screenshot and hit enter. It will tell you and save your screenshot in /tmp/foo_0.png

Let me know if you need help with that.

Uhh, I definitely need a bit of help, General!

I followed the above instructions to the letter, including putting
the Screenshot file in the /bin folder, and restarting the iPhone.
I am able to log in via Terminal, and navigate to the Screenshot file,
but when I try to take the screenshot, I get the following error:

picture8en3.png

I have tried several times, but no screenshot gets placed in the /tmp folder.

Any idea what the problem is?
