When attempting to install OpenSSH via the Installer, I've been stuck at "Generating Host key" for well over 15 minutes now. Is it normal for it to take this long? It does say "5-10 mins" but I'm just not sure it's doing anything. Any ideas?

It takes a very long time. Wait it out.

This should work ... I can't test it on my phone since it would take like 45 minutes uninstalling and reinstalling programs, or adding all of my apps to the list.

If it doesn't work as planned, let me know. I don't need anything in return, I just like to help out a fellow iPhone hacker. :D

Everything worked except YouTube and Weather didnt show up in Launcher. I figured that would be a no go anyways. Thanks General!!! I really appreciate the help!

If I were you, I'd use Finder.app instead of Launcher.app.

Finder lists all programs in /Applications ... Launcher seems to pick and choose. If you want to, I'll update your DisplayOrder.plist to show Finder instead of Launcher.

As background, I've installed several apps, right now both my NES and LightsOut show up on the bottom row (with Installer and Launcher). The last row in the <key>iconList</key> is:

<dict>
<key>displayIdentifier</key>
<string>com.nullriver.iphone.Installer</string>
</dict>
<dict>
<key>displayIdentifier</key>
<string>com.nullriver.iphone.Launcher</string>
</dict>

So none of the apps that I've installed other than installer and launcher show up, which is why I was asking about the <string> to add to put them in the special key.

Do you know how launcher decides what it displays? I was wondering if there was a plist file for that one...

I will try that, thanks General. I think Ive figured out how to mauipulate the displaylist order. I added SMS down to the dock and it made me only have to sacrifice YouTube which I NEVER use anyways. If I get bored I wil try Finder and see if I like it better that way.

Thanks again for all the help!!! Now if I could only figure out how to show a screen shot of what Ive done so far...

1. Put this file in /bin
2. Install OpenSSH and BSD Subsystem with Installer.app if you haven't already done so. Restart your iPhone.
3. Open the terminal on your Mac and do ssh root@10.0.1.189 but obviously put your iPhone's IP address ... it may take a few seconds and you might have to type "yes" before you can type the password which is "dottie" ... once you're logged in...
4. chmod +x /bin/screenshot
5. Then get to the screen you want to take a screenshot of on your iPhone, and just type screenshot and hit enter. It will tell you and save your screenshot in /tmp/foo_0.png

Let me know if you need help with that.

Network Error Connection failed

I followed all the instructions and I get this error when trying to connect to cyberduck.

Network Error Connection failed
sftp://root@(ip address removed)

Operation timed out

Maybe you got your external IP address ... you need your internal IP address. To find your internal IP address, go to Settings -> Wifi on your iPhone and press the little blue "(>)" button. Your internal IP will be listed there. Use that one. If you go to a site like http://www.ip-adress.com/ and get that, it won't work that way. But yeah, your internal IP address doesn't need to be removed.

I'm using the Ip address...

I'm using the ip address next to the "IP Address"

Should I be using the DNS address or something?

I have to use a password to get onto the server should I use that password instead?

Thank you for the quick reply, I'm sooooo ready to get this thing working LOL

Sorry, I misread your post. I thought you were talking about taking a screenshot ... in those directions I didn't say how to get the IP address.

Your Mac and your iPhone are both connected to the same LAN, right?

I have to head down to the book store in 5 minutes ... I can help you when I get back in like an hour or two (the line is pretty long ...)

Yup I'm on the same network.

Yah I:

Got the installer
Downloaded the NES app.
Got the two other programs to help me connect from the Installer.

Reset my iPhone I have the Icons for the "Installer" and the "Nes" but No icon showed up for the new two apps. I didn't think there needed to be.

I used Cyberduck and Filezilla (I have bother a PC and Mac.) I connected to my wireless (Which has a password) used the IP Address on my phone and name:root and Password:dottie. I tried using my networks password as well but no dice.

Just trying to get the NES games transfered onto my iPhone.

Thanks for your help.

If there is an alternative method I'll try it out.

The other two are utilities and not GUI applications, so they won't show up. I assume your PC and Mac and iPhone are on the same network? Were you able to ping the iphone address? What was the error you got?

that's nice looking, how'd you get all those graphics / changes to the bottom half of the screen? I didn't realize if you added to the dock it would compress the icon width? Do the touch regions correspond to the icons on the bottom dock (i.e., the middle one has a larger area than the two sides)?

It just looks like the middle one is bigger, the areas are all the same size. The icons are just angled and it makes it look different. Everything works perfect to touch.

(Nintendo ROMS without SSH) I DID IT NOW YOU CAN TOO!!!!!

Ok I wasn't able to get it up and running with the SSH thing so I ran through some other programs and now here is how to get the ROMs on your iphone without the SSH or connecting to thie internet.

You'll need a PC for this so all you mac users take the books off your old towers dust em off get some plugs for it hook it up and get ready!
(Or go to a friends home)

1. Get iphoneinterface.exe (it's the original program we used with the jailbreak)

2. run cmd (i.e. your Command Dos)
make the directory for your roms
*type help for the comand for make directory I think it's "mkdir"

/var/root/Media/ROMs/

then

/var/root/Media/ROMs/NES/

3. Once you made the directories use iphonebrowser

4. Navagate to your NES folder and drop in your NES roms, it may take a few min. for all the nes roms to get copied over.

!!!! Important you NEED iTunesMobilDevice.dll in ou C:\ !!!!
---------------
I'm not good at explaining so if anyone wants to clarify please do.

You guys are Awesome!

I think you need to have MMS messages on your plan in order for that to be remotely possible. Unless it's just an app that emails it to number@whatever.com ... but I've tried that and it showed up with all sorts of funky numbers. :D

Wow. This is the first theme I've seen that I actually think might look better than the original. Great job.

Also, to answer my own question from earlier in the thread...the reason the Books app isn't reading my eBook files is because it doesn't read PDF files...only HTML or Plain text...woops

Thanks, the bottom dock, icons, and wallpaper are form a poster on modmyiphone.com (didgitalkid, I think.) The rest are the stock icons since I think they are pretty nice as is.

Here, if you decide you want to switch to Finder instead of Launcher, I made a Finder icon that matchs the form of the standard icons ...

iconcopy.png

I'm not that great with Photoshop ... if someone can make a better one go ahead.

I'm trying to do a mod that's like:

http://modmyiphone.com/forums/downloads.php?do=file&id=435

except I have finder as the last icon.

I've changed displayorder.plist by switching preferences with finder in the main section and the special section, but the demo app is being displayed in the last position instead of the penultimate position. I can't figure out why. Any thoughts?

Can you elaborate? I can help you with DisplayOrder.plist, I just don't quite know what problem you're having.

Demo.app is showing up and you want it gone?

EDIT: Looking at your DisplayOrder.plist, it looks like you just need to move com.apple.DemoApp down to the "special" section, with all the other apps you have down there.
