Can you elaborate? I can help you with DisplayOrder.plist, I just don't quite know what problem you're having.

Demo.app is showing up and you want it gone?

EDIT: Looking at your DisplayOrder.plist, it looks like you just need to move com.apple.DemoApp down to the "special" section, with all the other apps you have down there.

got it figured out. I wanted Demo app (which has the apple icon shown in the screen), but it was out of order. Their finder had the wrong com address, so I fixed that and it displayed correctly.

I tried all this and still couldnt get the ssh connection, probably due to the network Im on.

Searched around online for a bit and found a program called iNdependence.

Since all the other 3rd party apps were installed, when I ran this prog, it said the phone was "jailbreaked" and it allowed me to transfer ringtones flawlessly. Perfect workaround until I can get the ssh working. Ringtones show up as long as they are .m4a!

The IP address I have on my phone is correct but the hotel Im currently at has a wireless network and for some reason it just wont let me use ssh correctly...darn! Anyone have any thoughts or ideas? Do I need to call the system admin? HAHA!

if you're just doing ringtones, you can install the songshare application (using the installer app); it has an option to send one of your songs to ringtones. Also, with bsd tools and terminal you can ssh out from the iphone to test the reverse direction.

Another small thing I found out. There is a set of utilities you can install called "Erica Utilities" which includes a command line utility called snap. It lets you take screenshots.

So now the instructions on taking screenshots is:

1. Install Erica Utilities, OpenSSH, and BSD Subsystem with Installer.app

2. Log into your phone via SSH, cd to the directory you want to save the screenshot.

3. Get to the screen you want to snap on your iPhone.

4. Issue this command via SSH:

snap namex

The screenshot will be saved in your present working directory as namex.png

Have fun!

Where in the directory do I go to change the black background on the homescreen and add my own wallpaper?

Lets see a screenshot of that baby!

Thanks for the inspiration, Deuce! Couldn't have done it without you, and The General!

It's way more complex than that ... you have to fake a wallpaper by making larger icons that line up. :(

Maybe in the next update they will make it so the black background can be changed. :)

ok, for some reason I cant get CyberDuck to connect to my phone? Any ideas?

I hit "open connection" , select SFTP from the drop down menu, enter my IP addy in the "server" field, make sure its on port 22, use "root" as the user and "dottie" as the password and it connect.

It goes and goes and finally times out. Any suggestions? :(

Its trying to connect to sftp://root@[IP address]:22

Are you adding your computer's IP or your iPhone's IP (while on WiFi)?

Very nice!!!

I changed mine up a bit, I cant stop tinkering with it. Its a sickness!!!

Me neither...still tweaking. I'm looking for a definitive answer for how to create dummy apps to prevent additional apps from showing up in the 4th row without editing my DisplayOrder.plist. I have everything working except I don't know how to hide the name of the apps.

Anybody know how to hide the name of an app on the Springboard?

In your /System/Library/CoreServices/SpringBoard.app/English.???/LocalizedApplicationNames.strngs, you'll see some entries and it's fairly obvious what they mean. Basically, when you see some code like this:

<key>com.apple.mobilephone</key>
<string>iPhone</string>
<key>com.apple.youtube</key>
<string>YouTube</string>

Just put a space in instead of the name. So it would end up looking like this:

<key>com.apple.mobilephone</key>
<string> </string>
<key>com.apple.youtube</key>
<string> </string>

Then, the names will not show up. :)

Thanks, General. I just found this info, along with a sample file here:

http://www.modmyiphone.com/wiki/index.php/Renaming_applications

However, leaving a space didn't work for me...that still left a blank (black) text box. Perhaps this was because I was adding demo apps that were not originals. At any rate, I tried just removing the space, and voila...success!

Now I can add all the apps I want through the Installer and they don't even show up on my Springboard! Hallelujah!

Thanks again for all your help. Your posts have been incredibly helpful!
:):D:cool:

Oh, okay. Yeah when I put spaces on mine I had large icons that covered the text boxes, I guess.

But yeah, glad to see you got it worked out. :)

Are you adding your computer's IP or your iPhone's IP (while on WiFi)?

I am 99% sure i am putting in the correct ip address. Connect to wifi via iphone, go to settings, then wifi, click the blue arrow next to my network and look where it says IP address.

I think i might be having some issues with my wifi though, my eifu seems to be really slow, hardly ever load pages and seems to get hung up on a page a lot and never load. Anyone know what could be wrong?

Thanks for the help...

I hardly ever post for help but here goes....
if a stooge like me can put NES on, change icons and etc, then anyone can do it. my only hangup is the diplay order stuff. since i no NOTHING of terminal and all, i am lost as to how to remove some icons, place some in the launcher and arrange the bottom. i only want 12 icons anyway on the top. i used some of that digitalkid's icons, WOW, they look good, i would love to get my beloved New Orleans Saints logo at the bottom like the kings one i saw on here. is there a display list tutorial somewhere? if not, i still want to say thanks for all the hard work, this is a lot of fun learning from scratch all this, and you guys make it easy for a computer illiterate like me. mad props to The General and Deuce Deuce, who are the bomb yo...LOL

They go in /var/root/Media/ROMs/NES/ and yes they are the same as ROMs you'd play on the computer. :)
