This is wrongThe public beta GM is a build to test the GM .. I guess, that's the easiest to explain that.
Once the beta is over, you have the option to upgrade from PB GM to stable GM that everybody else gets too.

[doublepost=1473522077][/doublepost]will i? or won't i? get the software update alert when the ios 10 public release happens on 13th?Many people don't understand how software releases work thus those many people are wrong.
If it were changed it would be via a . Update. Otherwise they are bit for bit identical.

You already have it.

answer as yes. or no.
If you have the Public Beta or Developer GM then no, because as has been stated it is the same thing. If you have an earlier build like Beta 7 or 8 then yes.
EDIT FOR SIMPLICITY:
GM -> NO
ANYTHING ELSE -> YES
To further answer your first post bit by bit:
You will not see it in Software Update.
You will not have to wipe your device.
You are now running what everyone else will download on Tuesday.

NO.
Because you already have the public release. Apple gave you the public release version before everyone else as a gift for participating in the beta program.
And that's after simply removing the profile ofcIf you are running any GM build you are already running the build that will be released on Tuesday - it is identical to the bit. If not it will be available in software update. /thread

For the 10th time in this thread. If you are on the GM you are on the Public release. Plain and simple as that. Its the same exact build. Only one time in the past 9 years has the GM been different than the build that is seeded on release days different than GM.ah ha.
so i would HAVE TO wipe the phone to get the public release?
Does that include times that new iPhones have shipped with older iOS builds?For the 10th time in this thread. If you are on the GM you are on the Public release. Plain and simple as that. If the build number changes but the version is still 10.0.1 then yes, you need to wipe and restore. Just backup your phone, restore in iTunes and finally restore the backup.
Not true. Apple has seeded the same iOS version before with a different build number. You have update via iTunes, not OTA. But you do not need to restore.
It's happened before. iTunes says that the phone is up to date but the build number is different.
When Apple reseeded 9.2.1 for iPads, you were not able to update via OTA, but iTunes allowed it. I did it on 3 different iPads. Same version of iOS but different builds.
Okay. You didn't specify GM only. You stated if the build number of 10.0.1 is different. Based on that statement, my statement of 9.2.1 would be accurate.We are talking about GM to public. It's happened before where the build numbers were slightly different and iTunes would not update. It's normally because it's not enough of a change to be concerned about and doesn't flag to update. A reissue is not the same thing.
If I remember correctly there once was a case way back when the 3GS or something launched, that some iPhones came with an ourdated GM and there were two builds floating around. I am not sure though, maybe I am wrong.
The thing is: Somebody on here reported, that the 10.0.1 GM was still collecting maintenance and crash logs, visible in XCode. Makes you wonder if it really is a final version.
Google itself it pretty good about Android updates.At least there are dates and deadlines staff and Apple Devs stick to unlike android........
You're likely ALREADY ON the public release. If you're not, you'll be prompted to update just like everyone else. There is no benefit of "updating" to the exact build you're already running.ah ha.

Heh, multi-page thread of people just basically repeating the same thing.You're likely ALREADY ON the public release. If you're not, you'll be prompted to update just like everyone else. There is no benefit of "updating" to the exact build you're already running.
