i do agree that edge is faster in rendering webpages on my macbook than on the iphone itself.

i really want to know if anyone has solved the issue of having to repeatedly hit the enter button in order to view websites that have not been first viewed on the iphone. there has to be a reason behind this for this and a solution for it.

There is no singular bottleneck on the iPhone. The slowness compared to the MacBook is due to a dramatic difference in CPU power.

This doesn't mean that the iPhone wouldn't be faster under 3G. Otherwise WiFi wouldn't be all that useful for browsing on the iPhone, would it?

Sometimes I can't get it to work either (like just a few minutes ago).
In my case, I wasn't getting the pings. Usually, restarting the laptop
will do the trick. You will probably have to rejoin the iPhone network.
When you said a ping every minute, you meant every second, right?
Because that is the rate that it pings. If you are getting steady pings,
then you should be able to get on the internet. If a page doesn't load,
keep hitting the return key in rapid succession until it does.

Have you tried the other method using Tinyproxy? Give that a try if all
else fails, but again, if you're getting steady pings, your pretty much there...

There are a few things Ive noticed about the process. First, you have to give it a few minutes before the pages actually start loading. Also, if the first page doesnt load, make sure you run a diagnostic... it will say that it cant fix the problem but the pages should load up right after its done. It has always worked when I do that.

I think there were a few other things that I cant remember right now.

I still think this needs to be made into possibly the best app we've seen bar iPhysics.

I followed the directions but got this when i went to googe.com/ with safari 3 on tzones proxy

Error 502 - Bad Request

If you are using the method I posted;

When you SSH into the iPhone (ssh -ND 9999 root@yourphonesip) make sure not to close that terminal window after you type in the password. It has to stay open to let the computer know to use the SOCKS proxy through port 9999

Just a little update:

I can confirm that using "The General" method of using srelay in terminal works with the new JB 1.1.3 Official Dev-Team soft-upgrade, and the method described in this link http://turanchox.com/?p=5 also works.

I have an iPhone 3g, with an unlimited data plan. I tethered my iphone to my mac, but I was wondering if this would take away from my minutes or if it uses my data plan (which I have unlimited of)? I am just making sure I don't see any excess expenses on my phone bill when I get it if I do this.

so this does work for 3g?

can anyone comment on whether or not this is affected by iphone software updates (now 2.2)? this would be a great function to have if my internet decides to die at unpleasant times...

thanks

Tethering works fine and dandy on 2.2.

PDA is the best program out there in my opinion.

PDA? I'm looking to get tethering set up this week. Would love to get further recc's on which program to use.

Also, any concerns about getting "caught"? Any way to avoid it?
