I can’t find the link now but iirc, the last time I saw a sales statistics/shipment, breakdown was 57% iPad, 19% Air and 17% Pro (combined 11 & 12.9). This was before mini 6 release. Might be before Air 4 & M1 Pro, too.

In any case, I expect profit margins for Apple are higher on the iPad Pros.

With emphasis my statement and question is about worldwide annual shipments. Not just your city/country but among the 195+ countries.

~80% of the iPads will be the cheap-end as that is most affordable.

The Pro models would make up the least shipped product line as it is that expensive.

That is worldwide, iirc.

I believe the US is Apple’s biggest market. Probably because even the cheapest iPad is still too expensive for many people, and a desktop/laptop + smartphone combo suffices for most.

Yes I agree. I think for most of the world the ipad is a luxury device.

iPads is positioned below the Mac as lowest-end line until recently started at $329 and sells below the $999 MBA.

Annual worldwide shipment of

Mac

- 2022: 28.6m
- 2021: 27.9m

iPad

- 2022: 61.8m
- 2021: 57.8m

iPhone

- 2022: 226.4m
- 2021: 235.8m

$329 in the US. Often more in other countries.

In the Philippines, the entry level 9th gen is ~$400 while the base 10th gen is ~$550.

That discrepancy is made worse by the fact that developing nations usually have lower median income.

Mind, those figures don’t show breakdown by country. I’m betting a huge chunk of those sales come from North America and Europe.

You keep saying 80% but I’m curious what article or report you saw that actually shows regular iPads making up 80% of iPad sales. I’m sure the regular iPads outsell all the other iPad models combined. By how much? I have no idea.

This wasn’t the article I read but I guess it’s from the same data (my memory was off by 1%).

iPad had its best quarter in a long time last quarter, even outselling the Mac. I’m guessing the 10th gen is what drove it. It’s a nice upgrade from the 9th gen and most people spending $449 for an iPad either don’t use an Apple Pencil or aren’t upset about using an adapter to charge/pair it (Apple Pencil 1 was always a kludge).

Apple had one of the best selling Quarter for ipads.

Looking at the iPad revenue reported by Apple in december qtr of 2022, 2021, and 2020, and comparing to IDC shipment estimations from same period. Not hard to ger a comparative estimate of Average unit price, the breakup is probably in this range.

Ipad 55-60% (Active Sales by Apple, 10th gen launched Oct 22, 9th gen from Sep 21)
iPad Pro ~ 19-22% (M2 launched in Oct 2022, M1 launched in Apr 21)
iPad Mini ~ 10-12% (6th gen launched Sept 21)

The 9th gen sold pretty well in the UK when the 10th gen was released too. I remember stock levels being short as every major retailer except for Apple dropped the price of the 9th gen to £299 whereas the 10th gen launched here at £499. This caused a stir as everyone expected it to be a replacement for the 9th gen. My daughter was holding out for the 10th gen model but was disappointed by the higher launch price so opted for its predecessor due to the deals on offer that included the Apple Pencil for less than the price Apple were charging for the iPad on its own. I can’t imagine the 10th gen has done anywhere near as well in regards to sales.

I agree. At the current price I just can’t imagine many people opting for the 10th gen ipad, especially when the 9th gen is still officially on sale. I would rather go for the 9th gen or spend a bit more for the Air.

Those statistics were before the mini 6 and the M1 but after the air 4, so the mini 5 was at around 5-7%. Apple stopped giving breakdown afterwards. But apparently the mini 6 has increased the share of the mini quite a bit and it is said to now be ahead of the air and the 2 pros, but there are no actual percentages...
