My first day with the X yesterday, was disappointed in the battery tbh, though I may have been using the phone too much with it being new etc
Usage: 5 hrs, 17 mins
Standby: 18 hrs, 22 mins
30% left

The main reason for standby being so high was due to the phone being at 100% before I went to bed and leaving it like that dropped about 3% during the night

I’ve also not been closing apps down when not in use like I used to so not sure if thats played a part
Do you notice any warmth when charging or using it? My phone gets very hot when charging and light use such as safari. I deleted the YouTube app to see if it will make any difference.

Not really it gets warm when I’m fast charging but my iPhone 8 Plus did the same too. I hardly use YouTube app on my phone tbh

Still only on 3 cycles, so can't say much. Have been playing lots of games and that just drains the juice right out of it. Clash Royale sucks 40 percent in an hour.

But the worst offender is Quizup; a BLACK background with some white text caused a 13 percent drop in 15 minutes of playing. That would be 53 percent in an hour. And this was from fully charged. What the hell.

On another X unit I could read macrumors for 7 hours straight (there goes my sanity) and still have 30 percent. Haven't tried that on this unit though.

Exactly a week since I bought this iphone X and the battery life is really great, today I got 9 hours of usage, standby : 21 hours, and 5 % left

I am a new iphone X user. The most usage time i can get out of my phone is around 6 hours plus from 100 to 26% (as attached below). I wonder how you guys are able to squeeze out of it to get around 10 hrs+ of usage with a lot of juice left. Any tips or tweaks for it? I would say this is somewhat a mediocre battery life. And I have restored this phone twice.

Because thet are either full of **** (Apple can do no wrong) or dont use their phones. Battery life on my x was abysmal compared to our 7/7+

I returned mine for an 8. My gf was being stubborn because she wanted the “cool” phone and now regrets not returning it. She never even makes it to the evening without it dying. Like, EVER.

Mine never lasted until bed time, was a pain in the ass.

Yea, if you have the brightness all the way down and check a webpage here and there thoughout the day, you might be good, but if you actually, ya know, USE your phone, good luck.

There’s no way that your 7 and now 8 (non plus) are getting better battery life than a X, there was something wrong with your X if that was really true. How long did you have it for before replacing it? Did you install the latest updates? I can’t say how long my X would last to 0% as its always been plenty but mine has way more battery life than the 6s (less than 1 year old) I came from so saying it’s only fanboys that are happy with the battery on the X is ridiculous. Oh and max brightness is the way I roll.

What is your USE of the phone, that iPhone X cant keep up with yet magically 7 or 8 can?

I guess we both have defective X’s then. I mainly do texting and web browsing throughout the day. Use the phone for calling maybe 15 min a day on average. I play words with friends and snoopy pop at work lol and that would absolutely wreck my battery on the X.

She does facebook and a shitton of snapchat with some texting and calling throughout the day.

My 7 lasted longer by far, and with the apple smart case, could go 2 days. Her plus would usually be dead or close to it by bed time, now it’s dead by the time she gets home from work if she doesnt charge it during the day some time.

I also like my phone at full brightness, which the 7 and 8 have no problem with. The X, not a chance.

Im not saying the 7 or 8 are “magical” as they wouldnt even last an entire day with my use, either. But the X is dead long before those ever were. Both of them. But if im talking to the same people who insist faceID is more reliable than TouchID (hint: not even close unless you have the most robotic phone position use ever), there’s no bother trying to convince you guys anyway.

What's your battery usage on your iphone x, usually?

There’s really no fix to getting a better battery life. It’s just the way it is. I’m disappointed in the battery life for my iPhone X. I only check Instagram, email, Facebook, news app and web browsing. And it drains the battery during the day. I get the same as yours on my iPhone X.

The best battery life I’ve had was on iPhone SE before i installed iOS 11. After that, it’s been really bad for me.

I think people who post that they have great battery life are actually telling the truth, liars, or fanboys

Using the camera or gaming kills these "small" iPhone batteries. Snapchat is one of the worst offenders, since the camera is always active.

People who get amazing battery life browse forums, Reddit and maybe send Imessages. You're not going to get great battery life if you make the processor work hard. My battery life on my 8+ is ridiculous, but I mostly I message my wife and kids, browse some forums and use Reddit. I use Spotify on my Android phone because I download the max # of songs for offline use.

My wife has an X and uses it like most 30 somethings do. The phone is always 25% or so by the time she goes to sleep. That's 7am til midnight. Not even close to a 2 day phone, but she can use it how she pleases and still make it til bed. In a year or so she'll need to start charging during the afternoon or evening. The X does a lot of things well ,but it is not a phone for a power user, period.

Honestly I think these folks getting 10 hours out of their iphone x are manipulating the battery usage results. The most I've ever gotten was 6 1/2 hours.

It says iPhone was charged if you do that. People who get insane usage don't do anything taxing on the phone. You can look at Reddit and this forum for 8h or so, with some power left over. Add in 12 hours of standby and your battery life looks awesome and people want to know your "secret".

IPhone batteries are smaller than their Android counterparts, and actual screen on time usage is better on Android, and it has been for years. I love the predictability of my 8 plus because I know I won't lose much to standby, so I can plan around it. Android phones can get way longer run times than iPhones if you really use them non stop. If my 8 plus could get the insane battery life that my $399 Moto Z Play got, I could honestly go 3 or 4 days between charges. The Z Play is VERY similar in size to the 8 plus, but it has a 3510 mah battery compared to 2675mah on the 8 plus. That extra 835mah would give the iPhone 8 plus one of the best battery life figures EVER. Most of us can charge multiple times a day at multiple locations, so this point is moot.

Well, we are on the same boat then. I get such usage time with periodic on and off of WiFi/Data. I don't open them (along with bluetooth) all the time. That's about it. Does listening to music (Apple Music, Spotify) actually add up to the usage time?

Yea it does. Even though it's in the background it counts as usage.

Terminology I would guess is a big part of it. You are referring to actual usage, but when I say it lasts easily two day than for my usage it lasts two days ;)

Its a device that isn't for constant continual use, it's usage gets made up of a much longer period than its actual use...And then without comparing what its actual usage was for it is impossible to compare.

To me it truly is a meaningless measurement. Mine lasts me 2 days easily, same as my 7 did. So basically that means that if I forgot to charge it I don't have anxiety about it. But in most normal situations, it gets charged in the car, it gets charged in my home office.

A bit like the answer you get from Rolls Royce when you ask how much power the engine has; enough.

I can’t give hard numbers at the moment. I will try and take notice this weekend. I can say that I owned every flagship iPhone and the battery of the X is absolutely incredible. I can go at least a day and a half without getting the low battery warning. Same for my girlfriend who habitually complained about “something is wrong with my phone” for the last six years (over expectations/didn’t charge enough).

I will say that wireless charging has an impact. Especially the car dock in my car which is fast charge Qi. I always have popped my phone in the holder the minute I get in the car and now the holder charges it.

I see. Your iphone is set up without modifying settings like turning off location services, off background app refresh, disable sharing analytics, etc? Does changing such settings actually help?

I can fairly easy get 8-10 hours on my X, but like some had explained, it all depends on how you use your phone. I do not have any social media crap on my phone, and I seldom watch any videos (like youtube) but I have a lot of office apps for work that I constantly use on daily basis -some of the things I use are Skype for Business, Teams, Sharepoint, Word, Excel, OneDrive, OneNote, Planner, Azure Office management 365, Webex, Work Front, Concur and many others. I also listen to music from either Amazon Music or DI.FM. I frequently use Apple Mail, (work and personal), Calendar, Notes, Reminders. I also tend to 'window shopping' with amazon and costco apps every day :), do banking each day, play with my Wach and Activity Apps, I am addicted to running speed test (have unlimited service) few other things like texting and FaceTime calling with family.
Just because I do not use snapcrap, facecrap and instacrap apps does not mean I am a light user. I am very happy with my battery life performance.

forgot to add, my location is always on, so if bluetooth and wifi. the only thing I have off is the background app refresh

Honestly, I really don't do anything to save the battery. I like to enjoy my phone as it was designed. I don't love notifications, so I do disable most of them besides the ones I find useful, like ESPN breaking news, messages of course, some banking and Apple Pay, Amazon shipping updates, etc. I keep BT and Wifi on, location services on (but I manage which apps use it and tend to be ok with "while using". I use MAPS/GPS daily. The way I look at it is that I paid $1300 for this "smart" phone and I want it to be "smart". I had the same approach with all my prior phones but I was always putting it on a charger. Not with the X. I also run beta iOS, so sometimes a release will be a hog, but they fix it pretty quick.

I am a very light user and routinely get 3 days before I charge it. I probably could get more than that but I have weak cell signal at my home. My use is mainly Air play videos from iPhone X to Apple TV (iPhone screen off) and SMS but that's mainly done from my MacBook Pro so the iPhone screen is off.

I have screen brightness at max, True Tone off and auto dim off as well. I do have just about all my apps set for background refresh but again, screen is off.

Overall I maybe use the phone with the screen on for an hour a day and make 2 or 3 short phone calls a day.

Fortnite released yesterday so I did use my phone a bit heavily today, managed from 6am to 11pm without charging.

My workload consisted of Fortnite(30 minutes of play time I'd have to guess), Instagram, Snapchat, Slack, Messages, Camera(some shots), few phone calls(on and off speaker), Safari(Lots of browsing, I'm a heavy safari user during my day), Adguard toggling, quite a bit of notifications which showed up as some battery usage(guess its good I have a black wallpaper on this OLED screen), ParcelTrack, eBay, Some Reddit, Music App, and finally the Mail app. This usually isn't what my day consists of, but the X handled it great.

8 hours and 25 minutes of usage
16 hours and 17 minutes of stand by

Ending at a beautiful 12 percent, very impressive battery life. I usually end a normal day with 60-70%(6am to 3-4pm)

Did you change any setting, or pretty stock settings?
