Get a Mophie or other battery case and call it a day. Then you can use the phone as much as you want and not worry about it dying on you during the day.

May I know where did you get this number?

Apple themselves. They do not consider a battery defective unless you are constantly getting less than 5 hours worth of moderate usage. When you take your phone into Apple for a Genius Bar Appointment, they can run diagnostics showing the average usage over the previous 2 weeks, and if its above 5 hours you are normal.

Holy ****, that's amazing stats.

Eh, they are misrepresented. The first 5% on your phone will drop the slowest, after that the rate at which each percentage point drops will speed up. Its the same on MacBooks as well. If your phone is down to 97% and you restart it, 9 times out of 10 it will jump back to 100% on the reboot. The percent of battery remaining is an estimate, not a for sure thing.

even with this usage, my 4s would have been in the 40s.

even with this usage, my 4s would have been in the 40s.

I would normally be incredulous but with fairly light usage and brightness set to about 50% with auto on and light LTE-based RSS reading with music listening, I also got about 1h10m before hitting 90%. So far, it's been fantastic compared to my 5

The phone was performing poorly using a combination of settings that came over from my 4s and the factory iOS7 settings.

All I did was change the setting recommended in the guide I posted (except I keep bluetooth on for my car) and this has been my early results.

I also keep my brightness low.

What's nice is I haven't had to disable too much. I don't get frequent emails, so I have iCloud set to push and everything else to 1h fetch; most iCloud tabs and photo stream are on; I have background refresh on for 3 things (Evernote, Pocket, and NYTimes); and I have some location stuff off (ie most system services, weather; most apps that really need it like maps and nearby service type apps have it on).

Extremely happy so far

Here is mine, so far soo good, maybe another 3 to 5 hours left in it lol

I'm very impressed so far; I'm coming from a 4S. I used to bring the charger to work and top it up in the afternoon if I wasn't going straight home (I use 3G on the 30min journey to work / listen to music a lot of the day / office is in a weak signal area), but no need with the 5S. Not had less than 50% by home-time yet!

what do u have turned off?

I'm not sure exactly what all I have turned off, but I know I do have some notifications turned off I don't use Bluetooth, turn Wi-Fi off when I not near Wi-Fi. I have my email to do a search for email every 30 minutes and that's all I can think of at the moment.

Terrible until I turned off "Improve Maps" under Frequent Locations.

Now it's about on par with my older iPhones.

Is that a new 5s? If so then I would say keep hold of records of screen short, let it do down until your phone dies the. Charge it until it's 100% then see how long it lasts, if your still getting the same then take it back to apple store and get it fixed most likely they would just give you another phone.

Even though I'm playing with it I can tell it the software/apps need updates/tweaking. Not up to par with the 5 thus far...

What's your secret lol do u use iCloud?

Nothing really I have my wifi and Bluetooth on, but I turned off most the the location services I don't need and left only the ones I need like camera, find my iphone etc, with everything thing on I should get close to 7-9 hours, but to be honest I mostly used it so far for normal usage, no map usage today such as Waze, it drains battery power like mad, I'll post update lasted tomorrow after using Waze to show the difference in battery power.

Ok cool

I can barely manage 5 hours of usage (sometimes not even 5 hours) with 9-10 hours of standby. This is on wifi 90% of the time. I've disabled a bunch of system services, turned of parallax, turned of background refresh completely, and when I originally got the phone I setup as new. Any other tips? If it doesn't get any better I'm bringing it to the Apple store this weekend.

After roughly 4hrs use 14hrs standby I'm at 61%.

I'm happy with battery life
